About this house rental
The view of Taos Mountain is vividly present from the front of the property, with cows grazing in the pastures in the foreground. A segment of a rural scene is juxtaposed within a family residential area, a short walk, about 15 minutes, (.5 miles), to the historic Taos Plaza, library, museums, Bent Street Shops, fine dining, farmers market and Kit Carson Park where many art fairs occur and music groups perform. It is about 20 miles to the Taos Ski Valley for exceptional skiing / snow boarding.
Our charming duplex originated as a renovation from a typical Taos 1930’s ranch house. It accommodates three, is approximately 600 square feet and some guests have described it as “intimate yet spacious”. The feeling of spaciousness may be due to the ceiling angles, at the high point the ceiling is close to 10 feet and at its low point, it is a close to 8 feet. Architecturally, the Artists Retreat is a balance of archways with contemporary linear angles. The walls are all hand troweled with a very light peach gypsum stucco that emits a modulated contemporary veneer adding to the tactile warm appearance.
Upon entering guests pass under an arched passageway before approaching the living room. Guests wanting to prepare food will find the well equipped compact kitchen with a fridge, gas stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker & grinder, toaster oven, a variety of pots & pans, cutlery, utensils and dish ware. We provide organic coffee beans and an assortment of teas.
Rather than decorating and embracing a single period or style, we have contrasted modern furnishings with vintage and contemporary wall art, creating spaces that exude charm, travel and warmth which are intended to make guests feel relaxed in a comfortable atmosphere. The brown stained concrete flooring is enhanced with a variety of area rugs. The living room couch transforms into a single pull out mattress for a second sleeping area. Facing the couch, is a large 42” HD TV with Direct TV service, DVD player and wifi.
The bath room has a shower and tub, with high quality towels including a hair dryer. The stacked washer / dryer including detergent is convenient for those guests who have been on the road for a while and for those who may be traveling with children.
The large bedroom is designed for ease and comfort featuring two sizable closets with luggage racks, a queen size bed, Serta pillows, and high quality deluxe linens. The mid century bed board includes a reading lamp and clock. An oak dresser with end tables and crystal lamps offers ample storage. The french doors in the bedroom welcome a sunny space that opens to a private tree lined back yard and intimate patio where guests can enjoy coffee or tea in the morning or celebrate the evening with a glass of wine. The patio is situated in a private back yard with shade trees and a sitting area for four. Come summer, shade wings cover the sitting area for additional coverage. The back yard fencing, a traditional northern New Mexico "coyote fence”, made from "latillas" ( aspen poles ) surrounds the back yard giving a sense of privacy.
Natural gas heating with thermostat controls. No air conditioning but two table fans provide plenty of cross ventilation in summer.
Designated parking in front of the duplex accommodates a minimum of two cars. For guests arriving in the evening, an activated front light automatically turns on for convenience. This is a smoke-free premises. There is NO SMOKING permitted in the unit or on the property. This includes e-cigarettes, "vaping" or other forms of inhalants. No candles. We cannot accommodate pets as some guests have allergic reactions to pets. If you are visiting friends or family in Taos, their pets cannot be brought to the property. We do not permit parties, gatherings or events of any kind without prior approval of the host.
In essence, we offer a well-appointed home that speaks of art and a warm and welcoming environment for those that stay.

The property was perfect for what we were looking for in a couple weekend getaway. It is a small duplex but located within walking distance to restaurants, bars, and retail.

This was a perfect place for two people close to the plaza. It had a wonderful bed, kitchen and bathroom. We really appreciated the washer and dryer and especially the shaded back patio. No problems and we will stay here again.

The location for this property was ideal for me. A few minutes' walk from the plaza, it was quiet and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and kitchen stocked with the appliances and dishes I needed (plus coffee :-)), and I enjoyed winding down with a streaming service on the wall-mounted TV. I loved having a private back patio and a view of the mountain out the front door.

Our stay at Patty and Juan's home was very comfortable. The place met our needs for our 4 night stay. Patty and Juan gave us many good suggestions about places to visit in Taos. It was our first trip to the area....
This location was centrally located for all the things we did.
We were very satisfied. Thank you, Patty and Juan.

Honestly, it was a fantastic stay. Hosts were great, effective communicators, interior of room quaint and beautiful. Were even willing to figure out a way to put up a queen aerobed I brought with me. I suppose the only areas I could think of for improvement is maybe a little more responsiveness on the phone calls, and the neighborhood, though quiet and quaint, I guess looked a little out of the way? But again, I'm stretching to find issues, and it was just the beginning of spring, when nothing was in bloom yet. Overall, I loved it, would recommend this place again. Thanks a bunch for letting us stay again!
