About this house rental
Taos Mountain is one of the most admired attractions in the area and the view of the mountain is strikingly present from the front of the property. As the light and atmosphere changes throughout the day, the mountain, will continually give the spectator a new and exciting aesthetic experience, from the morning light to the subtle mauve coloration reflected by the setting sun.
Our unique duplex, Pueblo Deco sleeps four: Queen size bed in the bedroom that overlooks sunken living area and the loft with a regular bed. The location is ideal within a family residential area, and a short walk, about 15 minutes, (.5 miles), to the historic Taos Plaza, museums, fine dining, farmers market and Kit Carson Park where many art fairs are held and music groups perform. It is about 20 miles to the Taos Ski Valley for exceptional skiing / snow boarding.
Considering the enjoyment and pleasure of our guests, has inspired our intent to create environments throughout the house that capture the essence and aesthetic experience of Taos. Our objective is to convey diverse visual experiences in every space generating a sense of welcome, comfort, and contentment that will enrich their stay. As guests enter different rooms, they will notice an interplay of architectural volume in the variety of ceiling heights, liken to Cubist sculpture. When opening the front door the ceiling height is 6’ 2” and as guests descend down into the sunken living room the ceiling height becomes 9’. In the bedroom, the ceiling height is again 6’2”. The variety of ceiling heights change again when entering the kitchen, the ceiling expands to cathedral proportions rising to 14’ and in the loft the high point is 5’1”. Some guest may not feel comfortable in the low and changing ceiling dimensions, yet, we have had guests who were 6’2’’ and did not mind the low ceiling heights. It all depends on the comfort zone of each individual.
Pueblo Deco is designed for discerning travelers who want to experience a unique adobe interior environment, and who want more than a place to sleep. As one enters the house, guests will see a sunken living room that becomes a spectacular adobe sculptural surround inspired by traditional Pueblo architectural motives that accelerate the creation of an environment that also speaks of the Art Deco period. The overall interior design brings together eclectic mid-century stylistic design that compliments and reflects the adobe sculptural elements. The cascading adobe walls surrounding the fireplace may engage guests to wonder and feel as if inside a kiva or immersed in another scared space. Our intention is not only to create a comfortable house to stay in but design a home that imbues a sense of place.
This design aesthetic is like no other in Taos with intricately carved designs within the adobe fireplace facades. The same designer / artists have created and produced unique sculptural southwestern concave and convex relief designs throughout the country in intimate residential installations, vast public art commissions and extensive highway public works projects.
Originally the house, an early farm house of the area, was built with low ceilings to preserve heat in the winter. In past years it has gone through several renovations, most recently, the installation of double pane windows and interior gypsum plaster among other things. The wood floors have been refinished and a variety of area rugs throughout the house add to the ambience. Both kiva adobe fireplaces have been converted to electric fireplace inserts that simulate flames and project heat. Next to the living room fireplace is a 40” HD TV with Direct TV service and wifi, guests have the opportunity to watch TV simultaneously watching the fireplace.
The unit can accommodate four people. Two can comfortably relax on a new queen size mattress in the bedroom which has been designed as an open space over looking the sunken living room. With a separate fireplace in the bedroom, guests can enjoy the unique relief designs and have the comfort and pleasure of facing the fireplace, turning it on or off while lying in bed. The house is full of light, windows over the bed stream light inside while cascading light fills the bedroom and rest of the house throughout the day.
The loft also has wooden floors and will sleep two people on a new full size mattress. Access to the loft is through a stairwell, the size of a closet, and a staircase that leads to the loft is an adaptation of a ladder. A metal grip at the top of the stairwell is a convenient support for climbing up or down. Basically the loft is for those young at heart that can physically get up and down with ease. The loft with a window streaming natural light has a balcony that overlooks the kitchen. We are not accepting children under the age of nine to sleep in the loft for safety reasons.
The compact bathroom with shower and tub is supplied with quality towels, bath mat, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and liquid hand soap. A night light is provided should guests want to activate it at night. The bathroom heater with thermostat can be adjusted to any temperature. The ceiling height in the bathroom is 6’2”.
The kitchen’s expanding height conveys the feeling of an enlarged volume of space that opens up to an expansive ceiling where guests can see the intricate herringbone wooden patterned ceiling design. Throughout the day, light filters through the french doors illuminating the large kitchen area. To make guests feel at home, they will find a well equipped kitchen with a fridge, gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, pots, pans, cutlery, a variety of glasses, including wine and champagne glasses. Everything one would need is there to prepare a meal or a quick morning breakfast. Coffee and an assortment of teas, salt, pepper, a variety of spices are provided.
French doors in the kitchen welcome a sunny space that opens to an intimate and private back yard patio where guests can enjoy coffee or tea in the morning or celebrate the evening with a glass of wine. The patio is situated among shade trees with a sitting area for four to enjoy a meal together while admiring the irises and day lilies. In the summer, shade wings cover the sitting area for additional protection from the sun. The back yard fencing is surrounded by a traditional northern New Mexico "coyote fence”, made from "latillas" ( aspen poles ) that encloses the back yard providing a sense of privacy.
The house is heated by natural gas, with a heater that faces the bedroom and kitchen. When the thermostat is adjusted in the bedroom the same temperature for the bedroom is emitted into the kitchen. There is no AC in the house. Opening windows allow for a nice cross current breeze through the house and the kitchen ceiling fan can regulate the heat in the winter or cool breezes in the summer. Table fans are also available.
Housekeeping or daily maid service is not provided or included in the rental rate. Linens and bath towels are included. Guests can sleep in luxury as the sheets in both the bedroom and loft are of the highest quality, either Calvin Klein or Raph Lauen bedding. A stacked washer / dryer in the kitchen with detergent is convenient for those guests who have been on the road for a while and for those who may be traveling with children.
The two duplexes, Pueblo Deco, 406A, sleeps 4 and The Artists Retreat, 406B, sleeps 3, make both of these rentals ideal for extended families traveling together or friends wanting to stay in different units while being next door to each other. Guests do not have to worry about hearing sound from the duplex next door as both duplexes are well insulated, preventing any concern for noise coming from one unit to the other.
Designated parking is in front of the duplex and accommodates a minimum of two cars. For guests arriving in the evening, an activated front light automatically turns on for convenience and a lock box for keys. This is a smoke-free premises. There is NO SMOKING permitted in the unit or on the property. This includes e-cigarettes, "vaping" or other forms of inhalants. No candles. We cannot accommodate pets as some guests have allergic reactions to pets. If you are visiting friends or family in Taos, their pets cannot be brought to the property. Parties, gatherings or events of any kind are not permitted without prior approval of the hosts.
In essence, we offer a well-appointed home with visual elements collaborating together that reference art and design creating comfort and a warm and welcoming environment for those that stay.

We always enjoy our stay in this cozy home in a quiet neighborhood. Nice little backyard patio, off street parking. Close to shops and restaurants. Refrigerator, stove and kitchen appliances, washer and dryer. It has all you need for a quiet getaway.

Very clean and quaint casita… well appointed and easy check-in. Great location as it is within minutes walking to plaza. Only thing to consider is the “narrow” stairwell is actually a ladder leading up to the loft and if you are taller than 6ft tall, you will need to walk bent over as the ceilings, doorways and shower height are not accommodating for anyone taller than 6ft. All in all, for us vertically challenged folks, was a very nice home - 6ft’ers beware…

the hosts were wonderful .

Loved this place. Very clean upon arrival. Great kitchen and loved the patio. Comfortable beds. Ceiling in bathroom is low which wasn’t a problem for me but if you are over six feet it might be.
Loft bedroom not meant for a tall person either — again not a problem for me.

We were so happy with our visit. From the cleanliness to the cuteness if it all! We couldn’t have been happier with everything.
And the hosts were very responsive and have thought of everything!
Many thanks!

The property was off the beaten path a bit more than we anticipated. Driving up to it, the location and neighborhood looked "sketchy." We almost left before inspecting further. It turned out to be as cute as the pictures on the inside and well appointed. It was clean and was equipped with quality items. Three adults were planning on staying, however, the ladder to the loft made it too difficult for any adult in our group to maneuver for coming down. We ended up having to get an additional room at a hotel. The ceilings are extremely low in all areas, except the kitchen. While the outside looked iffy, the neighborhood was quiet and seemed safe. It wasn't convenient for walking to the downtown area for meals and exploring.

The house is comfortable, we spent more time relaxing at the property than normal.

This small home was exactly as described. It was fun to stay in a authentic and historical place true to the spirit of Taos. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

Warm cozy and quiet, very comfortable and conveniently located.
I would recommend a grill.

This house is adorable, very clean and a great location close to the plaza. The hosts were very nice and gave us some ideas of where to visit. The reason I gave this property 3 stars were all the rules. The sitting area by the tv was not very comfortable, you weren’t really allowed to touch anything. The “book” of rules was quite long. We brought food with us to cook, but it was stated that they wanted no lingering smells in the house so there goes bacon. The spices in the kitchen were also expired by a few years. They had tubs of wipes with instructions to remove any lotions etc. before going to bed so you don’t stain their sheets. You were to leave the house the way you found it upon entering so I’m not sure why I paid a cleaning fee. So basically we didn’t really use the house except to sleep. If you’re over 6 foot there are only a couple of places in the house you will be comfortable standing but that was kinda stated in the description.

Great "adobe decor" place for couples that want to experience the beauty of Taos and enjoy a quiet setting at the end of a day. Easy walk to the square, close to many great restaurants. Patty & Juan are super people, great hosts, very helpful. We spent 5 wonderful days...exploring, relaxing, dining. Hope to return!!

Warm, inviting, and cozy- we loved the layout and all the touches. Super clean. A little oasis so close to the heart of Taos, and with excellent communication from the hosts. Quiet surroundings. We'd stay again!

Check in, location and our duplex were all awesome. The house is set up with a living space, queen bed space, great kitchen and bathroom, and a full bed loft that you access via a cute ladder. Wish we had more time in Taos and hope to stay here next time.

We loved our stay at Patty’s cute house, perfect for small people like us! Very clean and amazing location. However, we were charged for the cleaning of a blanket that we did not use. Other than that highly recommend!

Close to everything that we wanted to do in downtown and a short drive the Toas Pueblo, out favorite site...do not miss!!! Excellent communication with host!!!

We were fortunate to stumble upon this Taos listing. The description was accurate: many beautiful architectural details in the New Mexico tradition and ceiling & doorways of varying heights. My friend, who is probably 5'5", was enchanted by the scale. I'm taller and still enjoyed clambering up the ladder to the loft to sleep. The spaciousness of the well-appointed kitchen, the coziness of the kiva reading nook, beautiful mountain views from the driveway, and shaded garden patio further contributed to this lovely place. Patty & Juan, the owners, were a delight to meet in person and attentive to my emails. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Had a problem with a more "mature" group of females staying here due to the access to the loft. The bed was fine but getting up and down the ladder to access the bathroom was a challenge for us. Would be great for children whom sleep all through the night.

Although quite small, the property is lovely and was perfect for us! Nicely furnished, great outdoor area, close to most places you’d want to go. Patty and Juan are fabulous hosts!

In awe and have fallen in love with Taos and it’s friendly people.

Beautiful and charming!

Sweet place but not suitable for anyone over 5'10, or with any problems climbing a ladder to the loft. Nicely decorated little place w/in easy walking distance to the hub of Taos. Quiet neighborhood, ample parking, clean, well-equipped kitchen, great towels & amenities. Guests must be willing to deal with low ceilings in the walkways and bathroom and, if using the loft, a very low ceiling and a steep climb up/down what is essentially a ladder, not a staircase. The rental is really best suited to a couple who are not very tall.

Being 6"1", I had to watch my head in the place but enjoyed the stay....Thank You

We couldn't have asked for a better experience in Taos. The home was spotless and nestled in a quiet neighborhood, yet only 15 minutes from the plaza. Every time we entered the home, it was kind of like a warm hug - there was something so comforting about it. We walked to the plaza daily - in the morning for coffee and a pastry and in the evening for live music at the Adobe Bar. The owners supplied two rechargeable flashlights that we used on our evening walks, which were great because it gets dark early in the winter. The fenced backyard with a table and four chairs was really nice to relax in. And there is an incredible view of the mountains right out the front door. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Exactly what we needed for our stay, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay here. Both beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was very well stocked and we loved having the the washer and dryer.
The only downside to the unit was the living room. The sitting area was small and uncomfortable. It didn’t affect our stay much because we spent most of our time skiing or enjoying Taos.
My husband and son had to duck through thresholds, but did not consider it an issue.

We very much enjoyed our time at this sweet little house. Everything was clean and comfortable. The house is near downtown Taos and perfect for a summer or winter getaway.

Lovely. Loft not easy up a ladder, but very nice overall.

Cute and cozy place, at the edge of fields and mountain views but only a few blocks from the plaza. Very clean and well appointed. If you are taller than 6 feet this is not the place for you however....very low ceilings. Owner was helpful and responsive during a freak episode when power went out.

Pueblo Deco was everything we were hoping for in Taos. I always try and find a place that reflects the area. It has it all, architecture, art and history. Equipped with everything you need to stay in and fix a meal....or just a short walk to some really nice restaurants. The place is VERY comfortable, quiet and clean. Definitely a place we would want to return to. Patty and Juan, thank you for sharing this wonderful place.

Very clean and neat property, and was as described. Convenient location for all we wanted to do in Taos. Great off-street parking, and convenient motion detector light. Perfect for a couple for a getaway destination to visit the uniquely charming village of Taos.
3.0
Charming place but not what I would consider it a 2 BR. Accessing upstairs loft BR is a bit treacherous and hitting your head on the ceiling getting out of bed made it a room I think most 50+ adults would not enjoy.
5.0
Lovely place ...light and airy.However,
The sunken living room turned out to be a problem for my friend. With no railing to use she slipped on the second step while climbing out of the LR and fell.
The elderly or handicapped might be warned of this hazard. Nevertheless our stay was pleasant
5.0
I chose this house because of the size and location. Perfect for a solo or couple’s getaway. Off the beaten path but still close enough to walk to the plaza. The hosts communication was very responsive. Everything was clean and just as described. I loved that coffee was provided and enjoyed it each morning on the back patio.
