This is our 2nd time staying at this property. Location is great. Fishing wasn’t as good this time but the crabbing was amazing. Mr Reeves is great to deal with.

Wow, all I can say. I’d you’re looking for a fishing trip from the backyard this is it. My adult sons wanted to go catch a lot of saltwater fish. This place delivered big time. We probably caught 800 fish and 30-35 different species from tiny to 100lbs during our week stay. Housing and furnishing were adequate for our needs. Great trip!

Fish Haven is a beautiful bayfront property that faces the Dauphin Island Bridge. Excellent for those interested in fishing and spending most of their time out on the dock or under the large deck watching their poles. The house is simple and clean. Everything worked in the house and we were satisfied with everything. Mr Reeves was very quick to communicate and help our stay be as lovely as possible. Was close to shops, beaches, ice cream parlors, the marina, and resteraunts.

It was awesome we had good weather while there the house had everything you needed and the neighbors were extremely friendly and fishing was decent and on nice street easy walk to beach if I had any recommendations it would be a fridge down in utility room area for storing fish

This little house was just perfect for my family! I’m not all about fancy and perfect, so that made this the perfect house for us. My husband and son love to fish, and I couldn’t believe I found a house that sat so close to the water! While they fished, I spent a lot of time on the upper deck area enjoying the views and a good book, as well as taking lots of pictures. They caught a bunch of different types of fish, and really enjoyed themselves. We were also able to bring our dog, which was so helpful because he deals with anxiety. It just was perfect for us. The owner John was always helpful when I had questions, and we will definitely want to come back again! Oh, and all the neighbors were awesome!

We have now stayed at Fish Haven twice, and we loved it more this time than the last. The sunset view is unbeatable. I can't find another spot on the island that gives a better, unobstructed view. The airport seems to be a training ground for just about every type of helicopter and plane in the area and offers an air show almost hourly. The fishing off the dock never fails. We catch sharks, white trout, speckled trout, croaker, sting rays, red fish, and about every other species available in the area. My only recommendation would be solar lights on the posts on the dock aimed at the water. Thatś just a selfish request because I enjoy fishing at night, and the lights bring in everything. We saw a fish of some variety swim past on our last night that was nearly the length that spans between the two posts in front of the dock. No idea what it was other than enormous. The house was very clean upon arrival. The kitchen is well stocked. If you want to find things to complain about, you will. If you want to have a great vacation, you will. I love the house and will go back without question. John is fast to reply to any questions or concerns. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. The place is fantastic. 10 out of 10!

Nice fishing dock. Caught some red fish. Plug on wall by fridge does not work and light above sink not working. Be nice if TV in living room had Utube channel or a station with local stations. Plan on staying there again though. Overall great place to stay if you like to fish.

We enjoyed our stay. Location was great. Sunsets were amazing. Seeing dolphins right off the dock was wonderful. The neighbors were an added bonus.

I can’t say enough about our host. When we arrived at the home, the inside temp of the home was 85 and 100 outside temp. After contacting John, he said he’d have someone there first thing in the morning and offered us several other options for homes on Dauphin Island. He said we could stay at one of the other ones for the night or for the rest of the week. He also left open the option to come back to the Port Royal house for fishing. We ended up staying at his home on Bridge view which sat on the bay and was one block from the beach. The home was larger than the Port Royal home and closer to the beach. So it worked at well for us. John called to let us know he was putting a new HVAC unit in Port Royal and we were again welcome to use either home. We couldn’t have been treated better. Thank you so
much John!!

Fishing off the dock behind the house is excellent

Want to spend a week in a outdated home with multiple housing violations? How about having no working Wi-Fi, washing machine or range hood? Maybe you like the possibility of falling through the deck or being electrocuted with the outlets hanging out of the wall. If that’s the case this place is for you. Total slum lord of a daulphin island home…. Move on to any other location.

The dock was under construction and wasn’t finished when I arrived. John moved me to another water front property so I could fish. Thanks John!

Daulphin Island and Port Royal is a great place to stay, unwind, and recharge. Mr. Reeves is great. The house was plenty big enough for us and the fishing was spot on 30 ft from the back door.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our week at Royal Lagoon!! The house was exactly as described and perfect for our family of four. There is not a bad view on the property. You have Bay views from the carport, the deck, the dock (obviously), the sofa, the kitchen, and the bedrooms!! Literally everywhere you go, with the exception of the restroom, you look out over the water. Out under the deck is a great space, including high chairs, a hammock, and a porch swing. The property is ideal for fishing! My husband and boys fished all day, everyday. We saw a dolphin at sunset and they even caught a small shark! Inside is very comfortable and the kitchen is fully operational. Our son suffers from food allergies, so we cooked our meals all week. The house is smack dab in the middle of three public beaches and the neighbors are very friendly. And last but not least, the property owner is fantastic! He's prompt, friendly, knowledgeable, and overall a joy to communicate with. We loved our chill fishing vacation and will definitely book again if returning to Dauphin Island!!

Great location!
We’ve been coming to the island for years but this is the first time we stayed on the island. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. The description is exactly what you get. It’s a comfortable place to lay your head. But the view, now that is something special! We watched the sunsets every night from the dock while fishing. It was fantastic! We saw so many neat things swimming past us, including dolphins every day! So neat, esp for our son! The neighbors are awesome, def make sure to say hi!
The owner was perfect to work with! Thank you again! We loved every minute!

Fisherwomen on deck!
I experienced the best sunrises and sunsets ever! This is a fisherman's paradise. Comfortable beds. Adequate kitchen. Unbeatable views from the deck and dock. I'd like to suggest an upgrade on the sleeper sofa and the tv/internet situation. We came to fish and I bought my tablet and streamed movies so not a huge deal breaker. The sleeper sofa was quite dated and there were cable issues, loose cords and plugs looked like a fire hazard. The deck was a great spot for sun bathing, feeding our seagull, pelican and heron friends and passing boats. I stepped on a few nails that needed hammering down. A new deck might be in order soon. Awesome neighbors who took us out on their pontoon and assisted my mother with her big catches. We caught croaker, sand mullet, catfish and trout! Best fish fry ever! All in all we would return.

March Visit
This was a nice property that met all of our needs while visiting Dauphin Island. We spent most of the time on the dock. While the fishing seems to be slower in March (compared to other reviews from later in the season), we caught plenty and enjoyed the views. The inside of the house was as described and it was comfortable for our week stay. Our dog had a great time too!

One scary storm and 2 great weeks!!
All I can say is we had a great 2 weeks, House was clean and all we expected, We fished everyday and sat in the sun bay side and the ocean side beaches are close, dolphins off our dock every day neighbors were very nice, Our little dog had a good time as well....the house is pretty old and could use a couple of up grades and nail here or there ,but with that we are planning another stay again ...Frank and Sheila

If you are looking for a fishing lodge this is it!
This is truly a fishing lodge.. no perks just fishing from the dock and a place to lay your head. This rustic place is just as described.

Perfect Cabin, Perfect Stay
This cabin is on the most perfect spot on the bay. This home suited by husband and our 3 year old pup perfectly. My husband enjoyed the fishing, I enjoyed the crabbing and our pup enjoyed the beach area that the neighborhood portioned for dogs and folks to play. John was a perfect host checking if we needed anything and making sure we were settled. And the sunsets WERE AMAZING!! The comforts of home with everything we needed. The cabin was clean and neat. Bed was comfy. And having the sliding glass doors at the back of the house so you could enjoy the view any time of the day was a blessing. I don't think there was a day that passed by that I didn't thank God for the view. A thousand thanks! We had a wonderful time here and look forward to renting again in the not-too-distant future. (I hope.) PS: If my husband was retired, we would have stayed much longer. Thanks John!

Old, rotten, and smells.
While the view from the back porch was great, the rotten deck boards and loose nails made walking around the deck troublesome. The house is old and needs updated. The furniture is old and dirty. The beds were old and not comfortable. One of them was an old box spring mattress and felt like you had a spring stabbing you in the back. Glad to be heading home.

Awesome fishing experience for our boys!
One of our kids favorite vacations! The house overlooked a beautiful bay with enough depth to draw all sorts of interesting fish to the fishing dock. The week we were there our boys, ages 11 and 14, enjoyed fishing for hours everyday!!!! They caught sharks, catfish, trout, croakers, and sting ray. They had the time of their lives in Dauphin Island, mostly right there at the house. We even saw Dolphins one day near the dock. The crabbing was pretty good, too!
The house itself is small, but adequate for the 4 of us. I would describe it as a nice fishing cabin. It had everything we needed to have a good stay. We are simple people, we don't need a lot of frills. The house had all the basic necessities.
The lower room with the toilet and laundry sink was great for the boys to wash up and such without having to come up the stairs all the time while they were watching their poles on the dock. The lower room was also great for fishing storage, and that's also where the small washer and dryer are located. Nothing fancy, just basics that fisherman need. A cleaning station near the dock would be handy, and help keep the fishy smell cleaned up that fisherman create.
The dock was a sufficient size for our two fisherboys. I loved how the upper deck provided a nice shade for down below where we all spent a lot of our time sitting and watching the water, and fishing poles when it was too hot to sit on the dock.
The upper deck is partly newer near the entrances but the farther out deck boards are quite sketchy so we didn't go out to the end too much because of the loose boards.
The fishing cabin was a wonderful memory for our boys. The fishing was a HUGE (95%) part of their wonderful stay. And for us to be able to stay around and relax while the kids were having a blast, well that was beautiful in itself.
We enjoyed their happy smiles and excitement of fishing. The title to the rental listing says it all. It's a fishing haven. If you love fishing, or have kids who really like to fish but don't usually catch much, this place will be a wonderful choice for you.
The house does has some rustic touches to it, but the GREAT fishing memories and beautiful water right outside our door made us very happy we chose to rent from John Reeves at 357 Port Royal Road. Neighbors were great, (especially Ben) and it was a very quiet street. The kids are already hoping we go back again next year!
THANK YOU !!

Perfect View
Enjoyed our stay and loved the view! We sat out on the deck more than anything! The bed in the left hand room is hands down the most comfy, plush bed ever... I wanted to take it home! The owner answers questions sent through the app within a few minutes each time. For us the fishing wasn't great but probabally due to the impending storm that was coming and because we couldn't find live shrimp anywhere. We caught a ton of saltwater catfish and one small white trout. The crab traps were fun and we caught a lot of blue crabs and stone crabs. We will be back!

Million Dollar View
The view from this property is spectacular. The sunsets are the best on the island short of walking well down the west end beach. The fishing off the pier wasn't what I expected, but it was great. Day 1 fish 1 while reeling in a small croaker a shark swiped it off the hook. Nonstop shark action lasted the rest of the week. The first 2 days it was nearly instant when a bait hit the water. We caught close to 100 sharks off the dock. They were black tip and Atlantic sharp nose. The dock also had a crab trap. It had been set by a neighbor prior to our arrival, and the same neighbor had all the docks on our side baited and set with traps. He gave me all the crabs which made an amazing meal. The only negative at all was that the hurricane last year had knocked the dock off, and not all of it was completely restored. Next time maybe you could stop the hurricanes??? :) Overall, it was a wonderful week, and I am really grateful for all the opportunities we had while there. The island is peaceful and beautiful.

Had a few AC problems. They called AC tech out. It took two days to fix the issue.
The stay was overall ok. Except for being hot while sleeping 2 nights.

Such a Relaxing Week
We love both the beauty and simplicity of DI!! Mr. Reeves was a joy to work with before and during our stay. The house was perfect for our family of three. We got great sleep in the beds and had everything we needed there to make the meals we ate at the house. I would definitely stay at either this house or another property owned by Mr. Reeves.

Great place to watch the sunset on the deck
Description of the property was correct. Definitely bring bug spray for mosquitoes and gnats(May depend on time of year of stay) . Had a issue with the ac not working as it should and the owner got a contractor to the house with out hesitation. fishing was decent, caught a lot of white trout and some speckled trout. Owner had crab traps there so bring some bait and eat some fresh crab

Nice, clean bayside house
House was as described. Clean, comfortable with a great bay view. The dock has been recently replaced but the bench and table were not. No worries as there are plenty of folding chairs available. Loved that we could park under the house. Great location with an incredible view of the bay and bridge. Loved watching planes & helicopters land “on the water” at the tiny airport down the shore. Responsive owner. Note: there is no dishwasher.
