The perfect Colorado newly rebuilt log cabin for family vacation or romantic getaway. October 21, 2020 the East Troublesome Fire burned our cabin along with many other cabins and home. After two years of hard work our cabin, Whispering Pines Lodge, is ready to be booked. Whispering Pines Lodge is bigger and better, close to Rocky Mountain National Park and is your perfect year around getaway providing many recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, hiking, 4-wheeling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to name a few. This get-a-way cabin is nestled in the mountains at 8,700 feet between Rocky Mountain National Park and Arapaho National Forest, where the elk and moose roam freely. This relaxing cabin is located by Sun Valley Lake (a private 22 acre non motorized lake), just a few miles North of Grand Lake, Colorado where you can use the owners boats and bikes. Relax enjoying all the comforts of home including fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, washer & dryer, coffee makers, toaster, and many more conveniences. The dining area has a large dining table that will seat 12 and an island counter that seats 4. Enjoy a good night sleep on our quality mattresses. The cabin features two levels with the main level having two bedrooms (the Elk room with King bed & bunk beds and the Bear room with a king bed.) The lower level has three bedrooms (The Moose room has a King bed with bunk beds. The Cowboy Bunkroom has a Queen bed, and a Full bed with a Twin bed above it. And the Mountain room has a queen bed and twin bunk beds. The cabin main level offers a wide open area with a loft which has a log futon couch and chair for extra guests. For an extra discount we can close off the lower area, where you would only use the main level. For your convenience and laundry needs washing supplies are provided. No smoking inside and no pets.
Those who enjoy the outdoors will truly appreciate our Whispering Pines Lodge. Watch Elk graze in the front meadow off our decks or occasionally see Mule deer. If you are lucky you may even see a Moose wander by the cabin or down by the lake. You can also drive in to RMNP and observe mule deer, big horn sheep, moose as well as elk and some time a bear. Hikers, bikers, motorcyclists, and ATV riders have access to many miles of trails in Arapaho National Forest and RMNP is for hikers only. For winter fun, enjoy 130 miles of groomed snowmobile trails just yards from our cabin. For snowmobile or RTV renting, "On the Trial Rentals" is just 1/2 mile from cabin. Winding River Resort, also 1/2 from cabin, offers horseback rides into RMNP.
Anglers have access to our private annually stocked, trout lake by our cabin (no fishing license required.) If river fishing is more your style the Colorado River is only 300 yards away. Other activities within a few minutes of the lodge include golfing, sledding, white water rafting, snow-skiing (Winter Park and Granby Ranch), snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and hunting.

This was an absolute gem of a home, very well appointed for groups large and small. They have everything you could dream of, a d everything is very well labeled. Due to the recent fires, the area is a bit barebones, so that's a bit of a drag, but it's still a very nice area. Highly recommend.

We absolutely loved our time at this cabin! It was the most beautiful place and very well stocked! They have thought of everything! Plenty of toys for the 6 kids we had! We loved fishing off the doc, kayaking and paddle boating! We went over to the river and the kids had a blast! My kids love the outdoors!! They enjoyed the little park on the property also! We would definitely go back to this place! We had moose walking around several times also! Beds were great! I hated to leave!

This property is absolutely stunning. This was probably the nicest VRBO we have ever stayed in. (We stay in several each year) It was clean and the beds and pillows were comfortable. The listing online is very accurate. The owners were very quick to respond to any questions we had. The kitchen was so well stocked. Everything from utensils, dishes, small appliances, knives, cutting boards, grill tools, were available for use. It was like cooking in my own kitchen at home. The kids used the bikes that were provided. We walked down to the lake, but did not use any of the boats. We enjoyed the outdoor patio furniture and the many hummingbirds. They also left extra hummingbird food already made in the fridge. We filled the feeders once while we were there, not required, but we enjoyed them and wanted to keep them fed. Definitely take time to read the book the owners wrote telling their story about their original cabin and the rebuild after the fire. It's a quick read with lots of pictures. It definitely gave me a real appreciation of the cabin and all the hard work their whole family put into it. I can't say enough about the cabin and the owners, and I would highly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a great family getaway. The five bedrooms and 5-1/2 bathrooms gives everyone their own privacy and there is plenty of space for a large family to hang out together too. It is also a quick drive into town. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Whispering Pines Lodge was everything and more that we anticipated! The owners haven’t missed anything that guests might hope for and enjoy while staying at this beautiful property. The kitchen is fully equipped; the decor was very inviting and quite luxurious; (the 5 bedroom suites were what sold me on this property!) the fire pit on the lovely deck; even a turntable to listen to old lps! the access to the lake and paddle boats and canoe; bikes for riding. It was so very suitable for my family! The close access to the Rocky Mountain National Park was a bonus. We can’t thank the McDowells enough for providing this beautiful space for us to enjoy on our vacation.
