About this cabin rental
Historic log cabin on 60 acres in the heart of Chequamegon National Forest. Pet Friendly.
Build a fire in the fieldstone fireplace - living room - picture window overlooking the forest and White River.
Build a fire in the woodstove on the 3-season screened porch. There are huge windows overlooking the forest and spring.
Build a fire in the campfire pit outside.
A spring flows by the cabin, emptying into a small pond, which overflows into the White River. The sound of wind rustling through the trees and the sound of water flowing by is constant and one of reasons White River Retreat is special.
The main body of the log cabin was built in the 1930s by craftsmen who understood the beauty as well as the functionality of log cabins. A large porch (20x30) and a second story was added to the cabin in 2010.
Floor 1: 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, living room with a fieldstone fireplace and 3-season porch. Woodstove on porch and working fireplace in the living room. I provide the firewood.
Floor 2: 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths - well appointed with travertine tile, clawfoot tub, tile shower, reclaimed wood vanities, large bedrooms with views.
Bed configuration: 2 queen, 1 full, 2 twin. I provide the bed linens.
Kitchen: stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots/pans/dishes.
Basement - storage
I have co-owned/operated a lodge with multiple cabins near White River Retreat, for over 25 years. I understand what people are looking for in a vacation rental. I do my best to guide you toward this rental option if I feel that it matches your needs. I also steer you away from the cabin rental if it seems that this is not a good match for your needs. I want people to be happy here and leave feeling renewed by the experience.

Everything at the property was nice, clean and as pictured/stated in the posting. We had a nice time there with no issues. The host was very nice and even offered to bring milk for the kids.

Very unique secluded place to stay. Very peaceful with great screened porch for family games and visiting. Plenty of room for our group of 8.

We stayed a week in this awesome cabin and had the most amazing time!! The cabin itself was so cozy and welcoming and we felt right at home. The property is beautiful and the babbling stream made morning coffee in the porch so relaxing. Marilyn was so helpful and informative and easy so fontact. We will definitely be returning for our summer vacation next year!!

Tucked far enough back in the woods where you feel you are off grid.
Good location as you can get to iron river in 20 minutes.

If you want to be off the grid this is the place. No TV or cell phone signal but great wi fi. Comfortably roomy.

We really enjoyed the screened-in porch. We would have had a campfire, but the mosquitoes were so bad.

My family of 6 really enjoyed their stay! The property was comfortable and cozy and made us feel at home. Marilyn was an attentive host who truly cared about the property and its history and her guests.

This was our second visit to Marilyn's cabin. It is so peaceful, making it a great place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed a fire in the beautiful fireplace each night, and saw some wildlife during the day. For anyone who is looking for peace, quiet, and a place to unplug, this is the perfect choice. We are already thinking of a return trip next year. Thank you, Marilyn!

Booked this for a weekend trip with some friends, very comfortably slept 6, could sleep even more! Cabin was huge, very well made and maintained, and was warm even with snow falling all around us. The trails were a great walk through the forest. We would definitely come back next time, imagine it would be a very comfortable stay even in the middle of winter.

Marilyn was a gracious host! The cabin is perfect for a weekend or more to unplug and relax. Amenities in the cabin were perfect and the creek and river around the property add an extra touch of relaxation. Will certainly keep this place in mind for a returning trip!

This was my 3rd stay at this little slice of heaven. It's the perfect place to unplug and unwind (although you can plug in with excellent wifi). Plenty of comfortable chairs to curl up with a good book while you enjoy the large fire place. The beds are comfortable and plenty of linens and towels are provided. The kitchen is simple, but you have everything you need for all your cooking needs. The property is tucked in a beautiful pine forest with a lovely little river that provides the perfect ambiance. Marilyn is great to work with and makes you feel welcomed and taken care of. Highly recommend this gem!

With there being now one around for a good ways it truly allows for one to step back and enjoy nature.

If you enjoy being off the grid in a log cabin with three fire features to truly enjoy family and friends with nature and a destination which had everything we needed, very cozy and the surroundings are sublime.
When you meet Marilyn you will understand what a special and wonderful person she is, which is the reason this destination is so truly special. So, clear your mind, turn off your phones and leave your Netflix at home and get out and enjoy the splendor of the north woods.
Cheers,

Our family rented this cabin because of the large screen porch and it was worth it! We spent a lot of time out there, including meals and family games. It was relaxing to just sit and listen to the spring water flowing. The cabin is roomy and clean. The additional refrigerator in the basement was a bonus. Marilyn was helpful and just an email away. We are already planning to return.

My husband and I wanted an early fall getaway and really needed some forest time/recharge. This place did the trick and is definitely more rustic than some places, but Marilyn did a great job of showing some of the quirks as part of the check-in process and we were able to relax, unwind and soak in the sounds and sights of the Chequamegon Forest. We hope to get back soon for a longer stay.

The cabin was perfect. Very roomy and cozy with a lot of character. Very remote but easy to get to and in a beautiful area. The host was very responsive, friendly and had knowledge of the property's history. We had a wonderful time and hope to return.

The stay was very relaxing. The property manager was responsive to our needs. The WiFi was fast which was good as we had zero cell signal with 2 different carriers.
We brought our dogs and it was a nice large property without other homes in the immediate sight lines. This made for relaxed dogs too.
It was comfortable, quiet and relaxing.
We were coming in late after work and I had to work the following morning. The check in process took much longer than I would have liked but Marilyn was pleasant. I think the listing says they are still renovating a few things. If that bothers you then check if it’s done first. It was fine for us.

Nice big, spacious log cabin, literally in the middle of a forest. Nice little creek running through the property. Bring everything you need--you aren't down the street from grocery! Dollar General about 15-20 minutes away when you do need something. The cabin had even more room than we anticipated. Fabulous porch area. Oven was hard to adjust to (no numbers on dial--but had a paper with a bit of a guide for temps). We had a good time with some of our adult children and a few grandchildren!

It took way too long to get to a 2 lane road
Wouldn’t advertise laundry as it’s in a basement that you have to pull open floor and there’s no handrail
Needs fire alarms

The property was amazing; so restful, plenty of space for time apart and time together. Marilyn was a kind and responsive host. Wish I could go every month!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cabin! Cabin was clean, kitchen had everything we needed for our stay, beds and furniture were comfortable. Marilyn was great with communication through the entire rental process. Especially appreciated the tips on where to eat, Busky Bay Resort and Delta Diner were great! Cabin was secluded and quiet, but close enough to do day trips to the Apostle Islands and the north shore of Minnesota. Access to kayaks at the Delta Lodge an unexpected bonus! Will definitely try to return in the future to explore more in the area! Wonderful stay!

If you're looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle this is a great spot. 30 minute drive and you can be exploring the lake. Only down side was mosquitoes.

What a great time! Marilyn was very friendly. She showed us around the cabin and gave us information on the fireplace, stove, etc. We enjoyed fires in the fireplace every night, and the peace and quiet was perfect. We look forward to returning again in the future!

Wonderful old cabin with comfortable furniture around the fireplace. We gathered every evening around a crackling fire to share stories and laughs, and just be together. Daily rambles with the dog, surrounded by birdsong and water song, were a balm for all. We saw many more deer than people, and that was just right for us. A lovely place for solitude and tranquility.

This was my second stay at this property and it was a wonderful as the first. I left a lengthy review in February of 2021. I stand by that review! The purpose my stay was once again a craft focused retreat. My 12 year old daughter joined me for what is sure to be an annual mother/daughter retreat. We enjoyed crafting and reading by the fire. The fireplace was the highlight of our stay.

We were looking for a secluded cabin in the winter woods. This was perfect. It was picturesque, cozy and had plenty of room for us.

Wife and I spent a holiday weekend here looking for peace and quiet, and we found it! No neighbors, no TV, no noise except the sound of the babbling spring that runs through the yard. The massive stone fireplace kept us cozy in the evenings. Marilyn was an excellent and friendly host, showing us the ins and outs of operating the stove, fireplace, etc, and then was out of our hair for the weekend. We are looking forward to visiting again the next time we need a break from the rat race!

With loads of hiking right out the door, the sound of the White River and spring, the large amount of space inside, the fireplace!, front full porch--this is a gem.
If you are looking for seclusion in the woods--this is it. Amazingly beautiful property-

We enjoyed this cabin. We had 5 adults in our party and we really enjoyed the large table in the 4 season porch. The gas stove warmed it up nicely. We also took advantage of the beautiful fireplace in the living room one of our evenings there. Plenty of room for all of us to hangout. The cabin was secluded. It was nice having our own private spot. During the day we drove around and explored the surrounding areas. Wish we would have stayed one more day to just hangout at the cabin all day. Also would recommend the Pizza Parlor in Iron River. We got carry out and enjoyed it in the 4 season porch…it was very good. We would highly recommend this cabin. Marilyn was a very gracious host!

Property was peaceful with no close neighbors or road noise. House was clean, roomy, and had everything needed for a longer stay. Saw wildlife close by, something to be aware of if bringing your dog. Loved falling asleep to the sound of the river and reading in the enclosed porch and in the yard. Highly recommend the Delta Diner for breakfast or lunch.
