About this cottage rental
Aloha,
Thank you for considering Sunset Hale!
In compliance with the city guidelines regarding vacation rentals in our area, this property is rented once per 30 days. Please contact us directly regarding your requested dates, and to reserve your stay, as calendar dates do not reflect 100% accurate availability.
The "hale" is nestled in a beautiful country neighborhood and is a relaxing place to stay while you enjoy the North Shore. Situated privately, on the bottom 1/3 of our family's acre, with mountains rising behind and farm animals adding to the rural landscape. In this setting, it's hard to imagine that the world's most beautiful and pristine beaches are literally, just down the road. WORLD-RENOWNED SUNSET BEACH IS A THREE MINUTE WALK, and more than 20 other world premier surfing spots are just minutes away, including Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. Spectacular and magnificent beaches abound on the North Shore . . . all awaiting your exploration.
Our cottage was lovingly built, in 2008, to be enjoyed by family and friends like you. This stand-alone bungalow was designed for island living with an open floor plan and high beamed ceiling. A large central skylight allows you to watch the stars at night while lying in the comfort of your California King sized bed. Smooth, cool lava rock covers the floors, and stunning 'island style' and Southeast Asian furnishings, help you to know you have arrived in Hawaii.
After a day in the sun, you can rinse off in one of two showers: An INDOOR marble & lava oversized walk-in shower, or a large, private OUTDOOR shower. Evenings can be spent lounging on the covered lanai, barbecuing and dining alfresco, or relaxing inside, watching the 46-inch flat-screen TV. If you desire a more active nightlife, Haleiwa town offers restaurants, bars, and entertainment.
There are numerous fabulous eating options on the North Shore: A scenic, 15 minutes, drive in either direction offers a sumptuous variety of local, international, or resort cuisine. Locally grown fruit and vegetable stands are just down the road. Ted's Bakery is just around the corner (Chocolate Haupia Pies!). We also have a delightful grocery store, Foodland (complete with Coffee Bean & Tea), which is just 10 minutes away.
The tree-lined bike and walking path across the street makes the Saturday Farmers Market a fun and easy walk or ride. Luscious tropical fruits, flowers, and local artwork are plentiful. Historic Haleiwa town, an old whaling village, has become a shopper's paradise and restaurant-lovers delight, yet it still maintains its old town charm.
Every conceivable water activity is easily available to you here: Surfing, Sunbathing, Diving, Snorkeling, Tide Pools, Whale Watching, Fishing, Jet Skiing, and more. Lessons are available for anyone with a desire to learn.
In addition to exploring the magnificent beaches, there are countless activities for the energetic visitor. Fabulous hiking trails, including the beautiful scenic walk to Waimea Falls. Other must-sees for the active visitor are Waimea Bay, Polynesian Cultural Center, Haleiwa Town, Turtle Bay Resort with its Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, ocean-view spa, and horseback riding.
The winter months bring added excitement when the waves swell to huge proportions and pro surfers from all over the world assemble to compete in the Triple Crown of Surfing. This is a fabulous spectator sport not to be missed if you are fortunate enough to visit during this time. You can always find sheltered beaches and smaller waves to enjoy the water if the huge ones 'aren't your thing'.
Looking forward to having you as a guest!

Great property, so easy to check in and out, very private, had an amazing time. We cannot wait to go back. Has everything you could need to stay at the North Shore

We stayed here for our 40th wedding anniversary and had the best time. Three minute walk to Sunset Beach! We watched every sunset, took long beach walks and were mesmerized by the huge waves! The hale had everything you could possibly need! It was a wonderful and relaxing stay. Mahalo!

It was secluded, beautiful and well appointed. Couldn’t ask for a better accommodation. The host thought of everything you could need and then some. Very short walk to the world famous Sunset Beach. Umbrella and nice beach chairs were provided. We used the propane Weber grill often. It was perfect!

Very wonderful and a “true Hawaii North Shore” experience. We absolutely loved staying at this great location and look forward to staying again when we can.

Great location and loved the property!

Our situation is unique. My husband is a quadriplegic, so we have to rent a hospital bed, hoyer lift and commode. Alia was so accommodating and made sure everything was set up just as I indicated. The grounds are stunning, the "hale" is clean and has all the amenities of home. Our only challenge is that our family members were staying in Honolulu and the traffic was grueling. But that has nothing to do with our stay. It's a wonderful retreat and quiet (except for the roosters), but we even loved that! Kudos to Alia and her family for providing a paradise away from home.

Can’t describe the beauty and peacefulness of this place. Hosts thought of everything guests would need. We felt like locals during our stay. Looking forward to returning on our next trip to Oʻahu.

Quick response from owner. Awesome location. Very comfortable unit. Easy walk to Sunset Beach.
The unit was perfect in every way other than cooking was a little challenging due to only having a single burner hot plate and a barbecue outside.
We would definitely stay at this beautiful rental again.

Beautiful house, clean, and a short walk from Sunset Beach. My daughter & I came here for a surf trip. We had an amazing time. Lots of surfing & hiking & food trucks. This house is perfect, actually too perfect, unfortunately now my college-age daughter wants to transfer and go to school here… truly an amazing place! Mahalo Alia!

The property and house were very clean and keep up. The 6 min walk to the beach was very helpful due to parking issues on the beaches and streets. The house had everything we needed and much more

Close to beach, private, country feel and country sounds- chickens, birds, frogs, sheep, dogs and a sweet kitty could be seen or heard. I loved the roosters and the sound of the ocean. Well stocked VRBO. Great communications with owners.

Secluded area behind the main property on the lot. Walking distance from Sunset Beach with great amenities like an outdoor shower (with great pressure and warm water), beach towels, chairs, & an umbrella. Would recommend this as a stay for any individual or couple. The roof at night is a great little feature as well! Easily one of the best properties I’ve stayed at and I travel every week. Absolutely would stay here again

Cute building with every detail thought of!
Loved the outdoor shower!
So close to the beach and great hikes.
Excellent location on the North Shore close to some amazing beaches and hit spots.
A little noisy at night due to some neighbors, but not much can be done about that. Give it a 98/100 for that.

The property was stocked with anything we could need, clean is an understatement. Owner did a great job of communicating and providing information about local area to make the stay wonderful. Located about a 3 minute (very easy) walk to the beach. We don’t know how other properties are on VRBO but this one set the bar high for other peoples delivery and we will GLADLY use again if we return on vacation.

The Sunset Hale is a very comfortable and well appointed place to stay, a very short walk to Sunset Beach. It’s decorated very tastefully, with a Balinese/Polynesian vibe. You won’t regret staying here.

Everything was relaxing and easy. From making the reservation, to checking in, to the way the property was thoughtfully supplied and furnished, to the easy walk to the beach, everything about our stay was easy and enjoyable. The house rules were sensible, easy to follow, and enhanced the comfort of our stay. I would recommend this location to any couple who wants a peaceful, comfortable stay on the North Shore.

Sunset Hale
What a wonderful, comfortable, private, and exceptional place to stay while in Hawaii on the North Shore. We absolutely LOVED this place. Perfect for our trip to Hawaii. Alia has stocked this hale with everything you may need. The bed is very comfortable. Extra pillows, blankets, a cooler, beach chairs and towels available. Loved the sky light, enjoyed the roosters crowing, dogs barking, and all the other critters that were around. So close to sunset beach and Ted's Bakery. We will certainly look at booking this place again if and when we return to Oahu. Thank you Alia, for a wonderful place to stay. Mahalo.

Honeymoon Beach Getaway
We stayed at the hale for our honeymoon and it was perfect! A very short walk to some breathtaking sunsets, yummy food, and right down the road from a great place to snorkel. Alia was great to work with and really responsive in communication. The hale itself was stunning and well equipped with everything we needed (including yoga mats, how cool!?). We plan to be back! ❤️

Somehow even better than advertised
The property is beyond perfect. You just have to experience it in person. If it’s open, book it immediately, it’s worth every penny. Perfect place to come back to and recharge. Tucked in a beautiful neighborhood, very private, beautifully constructed and maintained. The property is spotless. It feels like Hawaii in all the best ways.

Perfect spot to stay on the North Shore! Location is amazing and the house is wonderful. Would highly recommend!

Terrific place to stay on North Shore
The reviews of this property are accurate. It is a beautiful house with a lot of privacy and authentic Hawaiian touches. It has A/C now which we didn't expect but it really helped when we came home in the afternoons and the hale had been closed all day. The location is quiet and the grounds are lovely. It's so close to Sunset Beach. Once again the privacy is amazing. We are experienced North Shore visitors and they left us alone - but you can read from other reviews that they are friendly and helpful if you need any help. We definitely plan to return. Thank you

Beautiful, relaxing, and the perfect North Shore stay!
The Sunset Hale was absolutely perfect. The hale was the perfect size for 2 people. It had updated kitchen appliances, the bathroom was really nice and great for getting ready in/washing off after a long day at the beach. The TV & wifi were great too!
The location was unbeatable. Right down the street from Sunset beach. Every morning we would walk to Sunrise Shack for acai bowls & coffee, run along the North Shore walkway, and then hit up Ted's Bakery for food/pie.
It's a 10 minute drive to everything you need Foodland, Shark's Cove, Waimea Valley & Bay, Turtle Bay Resort, & Giovanni's Shrimp Truck.
The location is private and Alia & Brian were really nice and accommodating! We ended up extending our stay as we loved it so much and wanted another day on the North Shore. Will definitely be staying here again.

Nice Stay on Noth Shore
We spent 6 days on Oahu and this was a great place for us. It is a very nice one bedroom Hale with a secluded bathroom. It was awesome to see the stars at night through the skylight. The property manager was very responsive to our questions and very welcoming. When we arrived the Hale was very clean and tidy. The AC was great to have when we needed a break from the humidity. It was nice and convenient to have a kitchen to cook in if needed and a washer/dryer to have clean clothes already washed before arriving home. Sunset beach was a very short walk from the place and it gave us the best view of sunsets on the island without having to fight for parking. To no fault of the property or property manager, the neighbors had loud music and very loud fireworks the night we arrived. The property manager came the next morning and apologized for any inconvenience. We would definitely come back to this location in the future.

The hale was wonderful!! Great beach chairs, beach towels, and everything we needed plus more! Sunset beach is just a few minutes away and we walked there every day. It had amazing snorkeling in July and beautiful sunsets! Owners were very responsive to allI of my questions. I would highly recommend the sunset hale!!

Perfect cottage on the North Shore.
Beautiful setting, private and conveniently located. The hosts were quick to respond to our questions. When we return to Oahu, we will definitely stay here again.

Quiet paradise on the North Shore
Everything about Sunset Hale is perfect. This is the place for a couple to spend a vacation in Oahu. The North Shore is sleepy and quiet, the people are friendly and the beaches are empty. Sunset Hale is within walking distance to one of the best beaches around and Alia and Brian have put care into stocking everything you need; candles for dinner, towels and a cooler for the beach, extra propane for grilling fresh fish every night...I would highly recommend a stay at Sunset Hale and we will stay here again when we visit Oahu. Mahalo!

Lovely Hawaiian experience
We had a wonderful stay. Great structure, super comfortable, Beautifully designed, carefully decorated, private, relaxing. Especially enjoyed my fresh ground, french press coffee out on the lanai every morning.

This turned out to be the perfect place. It’s only a short walk from the beach. The sunrise shack, a great place to grab a coffee and açaí bowl in the morning, is right at the end of the street. Close enough to town to easily get to amenities, restaurants, and shops but far enough that you feel disconnected from the bustle and can just relax. The house itself is a very interesting octagon design, beautiful lighting and breeze from all the windows, an outdoor shower, and a nice indoor bathroom and shower as well. It feels spacious and comfortable for two. It is also very separate from the main house, we felt we had plenty of privacy. The hosts are awesome and easy to talk to. They stocked the house with lots of thoughtful and useful items like a grill, beach chairs, bug spray, beach towels, and plenty of little things people regularly forget to pack. I highly recommend this place, I know we’ll be coming back if we come to this area again.
