About this house rental
Take a step back in history as you stay in one of the earlier-built homes in Cascade. Relive part of the history of the canyon and our family’s connection to Cascade as you look at the old photographs on the walls and leaf through the books on the mantle or the picture albums on the family trunk. Pretend you are sleeping under the 1870’s hand-woven throw that is displayed on the wall in the guest bedroom; or try to determine the origin of the pencil drawings on the framed muslin chair cover which was found underneath the replaced upholstery of the ladder back chair in the living room. And then picture all of this while enjoying the modern conveniences of the 21st century.
Raphael’s Retreat (elevation 7,548’), at the base of Pikes Peak and surrounded by the Pike National Forest, offers its visitors the best of all worlds. Though only minutes away from US Hwy 24, you forget that you are near civilization as you relax on the large porch or on the back deck and hear the nearby stream, gaze at the surrounding pine-covered mountains, or watch the hummingbirds as they fight for food at the feeders. Walk a small distance and let your children enjoy hours on the Cascade Community Park playground. Stroll a little beyond, and stick your feet in the cold stream. Grab one of the several hiking sticks and venture to the trailhead of the Heizer trail to test your hiking abilities or take an easy climb up to Mother’s Rest. Everything you could ask for--all within walking distance of your front door!
Inside, Raphael’s Retreat is furnished with everything you might need during your stay. Wake up in the mornings, look out any of your bedroom windows, and see yourself surrounded by the mountains. Use the A-framed, bedroom upstairs for a second sitting room (with TV) or a third bedroom, equipped with a double bed , and view the mountains from another perspective as you gaze out the two large skylights. When not out visiting the many attractions in the area, entertain yourself with board games, books, old movies, and of course, cable and Wi-Fi (NOT AVAILABLE 1/3/24-4/5/24). Take a break from eating out by taking advantage of the fully-stocked, remodeled kitchen or grill up a delicacy on the charcoal grill. And, finally, after a busy day, enjoy either a bath or a hot shower in one of the two bathrooms.
Of course, venturing out by car will take you to the many places of interest in the area, as well. Be sure to check out a sampling of those activities under the “LOCATION” section of our listing. Additionally, we have provided you with notebooks about local restaurants and activities (no matter what your interests might be) in the wooden tray on the coffee table. There are also numerous books above the fireplace that will help you find spots to hike and explore.
We have owned Raphael’s Retreat since 2012, but you will learn that our story in Cascade began many years before then. We were finally fortunate to find this retreat from our daily lives and now spend approximately three months each year in our second neighborhood. How lucky we were to find a home with such character and utility, a garden to work in, and the best neighbors you could ask for. We are excited to be able to share our home and the wonder of Cascade with travelers such as you.
**As stated in the amenities, please remember there is no land line phone. Verizon and Sprint are the two cell phone services that work in the canyon. In order to use other mobile services, you must go to Hwy 24. To maintain contact with others if you do not have Verizon or Sprint we encourage you to use Skype via our wi-fi.

7/2013 "There is not much down time in our real world. Our visit to Raphael's Retreat was a much needed break from the norm. We hiked a little, splashed a little, and enjoyed many laughs. Our family couldn't have had a better time. Thank you for a family vacation we will remember always."
9/2014 "Sally and Tom, you've created a perfect haven here in Cascade. Everything about your home was easy, comfortable and welcoming. The details reflect you in little ways that seems so familiar--family photos (historic!), pottery and artwork-very meaningful. Your yard and garden are a wonder--the bees and birds were all very buzzy and busy--and I love your bottle rail on the deck!"
12/2014 "We had a fantastic family Christmas at Raphael's Retreat! I was so excited when we arrived and saw how lovely and cozy the house is. We logged a lot of time in the kitchen cooking some of our favorite family meals and around the table playing games and laughing until our cheeks hurt!"

This was a perfect getaway cottage for our family. The location was great for easy access and short car rides to the sights. Sally, Tom and Donald were very responsive when needed and we had an excellent experience and stay in Raphel's Retreat!
Thank you!

Not only was the home beautiful and well-maintained, but the owner was also wonderful and easy to reach out to. Excellent communication, wonderful accommodations. Would 10 out of 10 recommend.

Fantastic views, very organized and clean, and close to many of the attractions! Was great watching the hummingbirds with the mountains in the background while drinking coffee on the patio. 🙂

We had a great stay. The house was clean and everything orderly and labeled. Communication prior was great. The house was spacious and comfortable. My 9 year old loved staying in the attic room. We were minutes from everything we wanted to do - Cave of the Winds, North Pole, Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. The neighborhood was quiet and our stay was great.

Property was convenient to all local attractions in the area but maintained a quiet and homey feel. There was nothing that we needed and after spending the days touring and hiking it was nice to return to a cozy home to relax and regroup. The home is very organized and has all the essentials for cooking including a few extras geared towards comfort. Morning coffee on the front porch listening to the wind chimes and watching hummingbirds was a delightful experience. Very nice place to gather as a family or individuals. Definitely would return in the future!

Beautiful home settled in the mountain area and near the road to Pikes Peak, which is an awesome experience. Has nearby attractions, such as the Garden of the Gods, Old Colorado Springs and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, plus a variety of hiking trails. Couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay. I'd like to say a big thank you to Tom and Sally for allowing my friend and I share their wonderful home!!! We hope to return again!

We really enjoyed our stay at Raphael’s Retreat. It was close to all the places we wanted to explore such as the beautiful Garden of the Gods. There are local places to eat in Cascade, Green Mtn Falls and Woodland Park. Easy access to grocery stores and a short drive from Manitou Springs. Both the host, Sally and her property manager, Donald are very responsive and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need for your stay. Lots of amenities and one of the cleaner places we have rented. We were very comfortable and would not hesitate to stay again.

We chose to visit an older brother in Colorado Springs. Brother Jim has lived in Co. Springs for many years and knows the whole state. Retired out of the Air Force Jim first showed us around the Air Force Academy. For the rest of our stay we traveled to many interesting areas and spent several mornings hiking in The Garden of the Gods.
Our house in Cascade was the perfect landing spot after the busy roads and small towns.

This little mountain house has been meticulously updated with very nice finishes and many extras that make traveling easier. Although we did no do much cooking this trip, if we had, the spices and condiments available would be a very big plus. Not having to drag along or buy these things would be very helpful. I think the only such thing I used was a teaspoon of sugar for my coffee--but I was very happy that it was there.
We were not around the property all that much but we did enjoy breakfast on the front porch and watched the MANY hummingbirds. My son noticed an empty feeder and followed the instructions to refill it.
Although we did not notice at first, there are plenty of extra sheets and towels. The house is immaculate and very well organized.
The loft bedroom is very cute, and a little strange, which added to the character of the home in our opinion, although it was a little warm at night. The outside temperature was very high when we visited (I think unusually high). There's no AC, but windows open in the loft and fans were available and working in all three bedrooms.
We overall really enjoyed staying here.

House was lovely, lots of quiet and beautiful views. Wonderfully stocked house, pretty much everything you would need in the kitchen. Daily doses of hummingbirds .. was entertaining to watch. Wonderful stay

Fantastic property and location! Loved the nearby playground for the kids, hiking, and easy access to local attractions.

We enjoyed staying here very much. Location was great, beautiful scenery from the front and the deck of the house, saw plenty of wildlife. My only issue is that the house had no AC. The days that we were there were abnormality warm for the area and the upstairs room, where my youngest was staying, was extremally warm, so he ended up not sleeping up there and sleeping on the couch. I know the listing does not show that there is an AC, but being from Texas, we just assumed that most if not all homes have them. That is on us, but it would have been good to have some sort of fan or circulation in that room. The later evenings and mornings were cool though and it was really only an issue in the late afternoons/early evening. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and truly recommend the house.

We enjoyed this home so very much. It was comfortable and clean. And we really felt at home here. The view from the front porch is just stunning. You are close enough to come back and forth all day from all the attractions but you feel somewhat secluded. Our teenager used the upstairs bedroom with zero problem. We also used the laundry and it all worked great. We will definitely be back!

We loved our stay at Raphael’s Retreat. The home had everything we needed and was clean, cozy and inviting. Our granddaughter thought the upper floor bedroom was great. Relaxing on the front porch (complete with hummingbirds) was awesome. Located in a quiet neighborhood but easy drive to everything we wanted to do. Thank you!

The house was immaculate and the hosts were super friendly and responsive to our questions. There is lots to do in the area like pikes peak, garden of the gods, cheyenne mountain zoo, the north pole and several trails within walking distance of the house. We also enjoyed our downtime sitting on the front porch and watching the hummingbirds. Highly recommend this property as your next vacation home!

The home was lovely. We couldn't have been more comfortable. This is one of the best family vacations we have had as far as relaxation (the weather also was fabulous). The kitchen had every utensil, spice, dish and pan we needed. The house was spotlessly clean, had cozy decor and a great shower! We were close enough to everything in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs, but removed enough away from the spring break crowds. This home is at the base of the Pike's Peak road. We met some neighbors who were very friendly as well. We enjoyed every minute!

My family and I loved every minute we stayed at the home away from home. The owners had everything you need in the kitchen and the restroom. plenty of towels. Plenty of kitchen needs pans, dishes, spices, etc. The home was clean and very well decorated. It snowed while we were there and we enjoyed it! We don't get much snow in Texas! It was nice to go out and do sightseeing activities but also have days to just relax at the rental home. It was very cozy and homey! We can not wait to come back! The owners were also always available and easy to reach by text or phone call. The pictures do not do this property justice!

Loved the whole house, the owners, and the Cascade-Chipita Park community. Wonderful experience from start to finish. Raphael's Retreat welcomes you with open arms and wraps them around you the whole time. The owners have done a masterful job of creating a comfortable, warm and serene setting for one's vacation experience. Sturdy, lounge-worthy furniture, great kitchen appliances (big and small), plus almost every kind of dish or silverware you can imagine you might need. The washer and dryer were wonderful and did the job as expected. Cleanliness and care were evident in every room. This is a very comfortable, historic home in a beautiful setting of majestic mountains and pine trees. Neighbors are friendly, and local restaurants are filled with good food. I really have to compliment Sally Lundblad on her accessibility, her care without being intrusive, and ability to answer any question I came up with. This property is highly recommended by my husband and me.

We stayed at the Cottage on the recommendation of my sister who has stayed there many times, and everything she raved about was true! Comfortable and cozy, it has everything a guest would require. We were able to settle in and relax quite easily. Plus the location is perfect for enjoying the sites up and down Ute Pass.

Home away from home
From the moment we drove up, I was in love. Tom and Sally's home is so beautiful. The front yard and porch exudes peace and tranquility. The hummingbirds sing and flutter around. I felt so relaxed. The inside is very inviting and set up to accommodate any needs. They even have a book made to help you navigate your stay. Very helpful. Thank you Tom and Sally for the wonderful stay!

Raphael’s Retreat is a magical stay!
What a great location to do all things Colorado! This home is in a terrific location just minutes to local attractions and everything you need. The home is a cozy and equipped with all you need for a great vacation. I have visited the area several times and will certainly try to book this location again in the future.

Great Spot!
The cottage was beautiful and conveniently located. We enjoyed many hikes within the area, but always enjoyed coming back to enjoy the peaceful setting of the cottage. The property manager was very responsive and the owners are very generous in sharing their property ( e.g. great selection of kitchen spices, walking sticks, hiking info).

Truly Impressed
This property was quickly nicknamed out "Little Mountain House" by our 3 year old daughter. This property was perfect for our family of 6 and we all fell in love with it! You can tell the property owners thoroughly anticipate the needs of their guests. My background is in hotel operations and management and I was truly impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the property and all of the amenities that were offered. I loved the binder in the living room with all of the information about the house and the surrounding areas. it was very useful! The house was very cozy and the location was beyond perfect. We enjoyed sitting out on the front porch watching the hummingbirds and made use of the park located only steps away. My family couldn't have been more happy with our stay and we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Colorado.

Cascade Property
This property is accurately depicted in the pictures, and Sally was a very welcoming hostess. We appreciated the tips for the area and the nice note and bottle of wine. Unfortunately we flew in during a snow storm so did not get to do much hiking or explore the area too much. The house is a bit more tucked away than we realized for anyone else researching the Colorado Springs area. We took most meals in Woodland Park (around 15 minutes away) and our top pick was AJ's Pizzeria. There is a cute little breakfast place closer called The Pantry that was also good. Overall a really good stay and we enjoyed our time even in the snow.

We loved this property so much and can't wait until we can make it back, hopefully yearly! The location could not be better. So close to all the towns nearby and so much to do. We went on 2 amazing hikes just outside the door (Heizer and Mother's Rest- a must see), spent some time everyday at the playground, which is diagonally across the street, and explored the stream behind the playground. We also loved just sitting on the front porch taking in the beautiful views and watching the hummingbirds play.
The house is absolutely adorable, inside and out. It was very clean when we got there. The kitchen is very well stocked with anything you would need, including a lot of diiferent spices. We made most of our meals at home and it was just very nice to cook in and easy to keep clean.
There's a huge counter and some open space by the backdoor which was perfect for when we'd get back home for the day and have to bring all the kids stuff into the house.
The beds were very comfortable and everyone slept great.
I was a little worried how my one and a half year old would do in a different house and if we would actually be able to relax but the kids both loved the house (ages 20 months and 5 yrs) and it was very comfortable and relaxing for us all.
I loved that the owner connected with me after booking and I could reach out directly to her if needed. Our whole Colorado vacation was beautiful and perfect and I believe it all started when we arrived at this home and fell in love with it. We will definitely be staying here again!
