About this house rental
Less than 1 1/2 hrs from Atlanta or an hour from UGA in Athens, you'll find much to do here at Lakeside Family Retreat all year round. (Click "View More".) From the back porch of this airy a-frame, enjoy the quiet sunrise over the lake with your morning coffee. Catch the WOW views from much of the house and watch occasional passing boats from our jasmine-covered gazebo's 'back porch' swing. There's a sand box with stairs into the water and the glider on our private dock is a favorite roost for sunbathers and evening sunset watchers. Paddle our Old Town canoe to a nearby cove. If its warm, swim, float, fish, boat or picnic. In cooler weather, our fireplace, fire-pit and hot tub add to the 'cabin in the woods' feel. The gas grill and full kitchen are always available; restaurants are nearby, or meals can be delivered, if you just don't feel like cooking.
We're always improving. Check out our new patio; we've re-carpeted the loft, put in a bar and upgraded the primary bath; other renovations in the works. Come see what's changed!
Jet skis, pontoons and other boats can be rented from various places and we're a short walk from the Sun Life Marina (formerly Waterfront on Lake Oconee) with its public boat ramp. Some boat rental agencies will drop off there for a fee. Good shopping and antiquing can be found in neighboring Madison, Eatonton and Greensboro. A multiplex movie theater is about 15 minutes away near a Publix grocery store. And you'll be within 10-15 minutes of restaurants like the Mellow Mushroom, Silver Moon or El Agave. The Ritz Carlton complex is about 20 minutes away if you feel like a cocktail on their veranda. Several golf courses, tennis centers, hiking and biking trails and other sports activities are within that same 10-20 minute range, though what is open and available for public use may vary with the season. Within 40 minutes are places catering to shooting and hunting enthusiasts, off-road vehicles, horseback riding, archery and other outdoor adventures. There is an Uncle Remus Museum nearby in Eatonton and 'Andulusia,' the home of Flannery O'Conner, is in Milledgeville.
Parking, vehicles and boats: Our carport, driveway and parking area will accommodate a maximum total of six vehicles, including boat trailers. RV's are prohibited by local ordinance. Up to two boats can be moored at our private dock. Please don't drive across our grass; public boat ramp is at Sun Life Marina, where you turn onto our dirt road.
Pets: The owner approves pets individually; guests are asked for details on breed, age and weight. Our limit is usually two. Local Putnam County Ordinances require dogs to be leashed or otherwise contained at all times.
Baby on board? We have a "Pack N Play On the Go" for guest use. Let us know you need it. Also rent cribs, car seats, strollers, toys and more from BabyQuip! As seen on Shark Tank, BabyQuip offers clean, sanitized, and safe baby gear in over 650 cities! Visit https://www.babyquip.com/a/5yk9tl to make a reservation. They will provide freshly cleaned and insured baby equipment delivered to the lake house and pick it up when you depart. Check prices with the Athens store to decide if they are affordable for you. The link above provides a 10% discount to our guests.
Please note: Our electric boat lift is not in service. But there are cleats to tie up on the dock and the water there is always 5'-6' deep. Power is still on at the dock.
The nightly rate VRBO shows at the top of the inquiry box is the rental rate paid to the owner. But be sure to click "Price details' to get the complete picture including taxes, cleaning and fees paid to VRBO.
OUR APPROACH
At Lakeside Family Retreat, it is not our goal to provide pristine, designer-decorated rooms. We're aiming for a livable, family atmosphere, sort of a 'funky, cozy' vibe, where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view and the many joys the lake has to offer. The Retreat is perfect for a multi-generational family vacation or holiday celebration; a small birthday or retirement acknowledgement; bible study group, "just-the-girl’s" getaway; fishing retreat or golf buddies get-together, etc. The hot tub, fireplace and fire-pit also make it popular for a romantic weekend to celebrate an anniversary or other 'couples' milestone. Guests of all descriptions and their well-behaved pets are most welcome! (Service animals are exempt from the pet fee; just let us know if one is coming. Note also that, unfortunately, local county ordinances require dogs to be leashed or otherwise contained at all times.) We would love to host you!
*****SPECIALS
Last minute specials are possible; check dates in the near future. The automated system will not take a reservation for the same day so use the 'contact host' button if today is when you want to come.

Great for a relaxing lake vacation, and love that it’s dog friendly. The home is spacious and had everything we needed. The screened porch is great for sunsets or rainy days. This was our second visit and we hope to return.

The owners were quick to reply to messages and very accommodating. The view is beautiful. We enjoyed the shallow lake area with the small kids and deeper water with the adults. We loved the sand area and the easy walk to and from the house. The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed for our short stay. Would definitely visit again!

The most important factors for renting a lake house are location and view. This is our second time renting here and we enjoyed our week. Our dog loved wading in the water and watching us float from the dock. Friendly neighbors and walking distance from the marina were a plus!

We are regular guests and love getting away to relax with the beautiful view. The kids loved making s’mores in the new fire pit!

We loved that the kitchen, dining room, living room, and back screen porch was all open so if you have a big family you could be all together. The kids had lots of room to run around to play inside the house or outside on the screened porch. It was nice to be able to see them no matter where they went. Air conditioner worked great! The kids loved the hot tub! Hope to stay again next year. There was lots of games and a big dining table so we all could sit down together. We love this place.

Great time had by all. There was only 5 out of 8 that could go but we had a blast. We are all over 80 yrs old so had plenty of space. The house was beautiful with the lake setting and soooooooooooo quiet and peaceful. Again wonderful stay and possibly return next year.

I have spent hours trying to resolve an issue with this property manager and owner. After leaving the property They claimed i damaged a laundry room door that i saw upon initial entry. As mentioned to the owner, for a 20+ year old rental - a small hole in the door did not trigger in my mind, that i might send a photo and make sure that they knew it was there before, because there are hundreds of flaws in a rental house that is of this vintage. To think they would take $X,XXX from me for 3 nights and then try to charge me for damage i saw/noticed is infuriating!! The worst part is that when the property manager notified me they didn't even accurately describe the damage - which proved my point that i saw it previously and further frustrated me that this was a bogus unsubstantiated claim that existed prior to my rental - then after communicating that they would remove the charge i was still charged and the very lukewarm apology for the original mistake was added insult!!!
I hope everyone reading this understands what they are considering when they contemplate renting this property - and anyone that does not prefer musty/moldy smell might also avoid this property

This home is exactly as described. The pictures are accurate. It was the perfect location for us....an hour and a half east of the Atlanta airport and an hour and a half west of Augusta. The lake views from the house are beautiful. Sitting on the screened porch was a pleasure - great views and no bugs! The canoe was well maintained and fun to use for lake exploration. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and the wifi worked well. Overall, a relaxing stay.

We absolutely loved our stay! The view was incredible, we enjoyed the hot tub every night, and our dog loved it as well. We came for a family wedding at The Ritz Carleton, and it was conveniently located to all family gatherings while also providing us a quaint, peaceful getaway at the lake, just the two of us. The communication with the host was fantastic, and we would definitely come back again. Thank you!

We stayed here as a family and sincerely it has been one of the best experiences we have had. We had such a wonderful time enjoying the nature, the views and activities that allowed us to connect between us. The house was super clean, the beds so comfy and many open spaces to be together. The room at the top of the house doesn’t have a door but it has a curtain to close it. Definitely I would come again and I recommend this house to anyone that would like to have a peaceful stay. The host was also very attentive and polite

This stay was truly a blessing for our family. It was relaxing family time together during our son’s wedding week, in a peaceful and beautiful environment. The owner was understanding and caring when we started to leave and one of our cars would not start, allowing us to be warm and not freeze outside in the cold!

The property is as advertised: not the fanciest but great location. We wanted quiet and easy access to the water for our kayaks. This property delivered. It had all the necessities and the screen porch is an added bonus. Our favorite restaurant Silver Moon is only eight minutes away. We’ll be back.

Overall this home is a great choice for a family stay on Lake Oconee. The home has two bedrooms downstairs and a loft area configured with a queen and two singles. There is a hot tub on the deck, a gas grill, a canoe you can use, and a nice screened porch with a view of the lake. The home accepts dogs, which was a big plus for us. There was a private dock that we were able to use for a rented boat. There was room for our inlaws to park their RV, which can be hard to find. The location was beautiful and quiet, but not far from conveniences. I saw a bald eagle while out paddling the canoe! We did have some hiccups with cleaning. The home had not been cleaned when we arrived and it took the owner a while to respond to messages, and for the cleaning crew to come out. We had to sit out in the porch while they cleaned. The grill was filthy, but that is not uncommon in rental properties that have a grill. The hot tub water was dirty, but the owner had somebody come out, clean it, and replace the water. The owner offered to recompense us for the issues encountered, but failed to follow up. Overall my sense was an owner who wanted to do the right thing, but was busy with other priorities. Would I rent there again? Yes, but I would confirm with the owner that cleaning was scheduled.

This a-frame has lots of space, several seating areas and a fabulous view of the lake. Hands down our favorite feature was the screened in porch. The owners were very responsive to any requests or questions we had. Plenty of shopping and dining in nearby Madison and Greensboro. I highly recomend it.

This is my second time booking this property this year and I am already planning to go back in September with two friends. A few of the special areas include the cathedral ceiling screened porch, lots of ceiling fans, private loft and a movie room. The owner is very responsive to any challenges or questions. I highly recommend this lovely home for a relaxing vacation.

We had a great stay meeting up with family and enjoying time together. We relaxed, fished, rented a boat and enjoyed some great meals together. The location was great, and the kitchen was very well equipped. Plenty of space to spread out. Thank you for a great stay!

The lake front location was amazing and so close to so many things like restaurants and jetski/boat rentals. The owners provided recommendations and even notified us about minor changes before we arrived such as a new refrigerator that was installed and the ice might not be full. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year.

This is our second year at this property. We had a great time enjoying the lake and the home. Communication with the owner and property manager is prompt and very helpful. The lake is a great set up for young kids who can't swim as they can stand for a large area before the drop off. If you have time to drive to the Aquarium in Atlanta, its really worth the money and the drive!

Spent two weeks here with family & we all had a great time. John is super great to work with, very responsive and helpful. Everyone in our party agreed this is our new "Go to" for family week at the lake. Everything is as described, love being right on the lake with a boat dock. Sun Life Marina is just around the corner & great for boat rental & fueling.

The listing is very accurate, it’s hidden in a wooded area with an INCREDIBLE view of the lake. Enjoy mornings and sunsets out on the porch. The house has everything you need for a family getaway!

My family and I were very happy with this home and its location. It is very close to the marina, which has a boat landing, and also close to town making it convenient. The home was clean and well furnished. The upstairs loft is very spacious. The additions to this property such as the grill, outside swing, and sandbox were enjoyed by my family. We plan to visit this property again.
