About this cabin rental
If it's a water experience that you are looking for, this is it! The perfect vacation spot for the family. So much to do and never leave the property. There is something for everyone - there is a shallow area for the little ones to play and deep water for swimming and floating. We have 2 sea otter kayaks, a canoe, and pontoon paddleboat for you to explore the lake. There is a field that is great for frisbee, whiffle ball, glowstick freeze tag or lying on a blanket and gazing at the stars.
The cabin is at the head of the cove. There is a 100 foot dock crossing the lake. There is an bonfire area with benches and of course, fishing. The clarity of Lake Lure has earned it a high rating for bass fishing. Ask us about places to walk and hike. Depending on the season, wildlife usually out the window. Deer can be seen out grazing in the field almost all year around. In the fall, turkey also find the field good for grazing. Some guests have had glances of the bear or the bobcat. For bird watchers, we have kingfishers and a pair of bald eagles that call the lake home. As you kayak, you will see great blue herons and turtles along the shoreline.
Nestled among the native rhododendrons and dogwoods of the Appalachian Mountains sets this unique little cabin. Built in the early 1970’s, it is one of the older quaint lakefront homes on Lake Lure. It is truly an exceptional find in that it is set on a 9-acres at the head of Sunset Cove. Also, it is built partially out over the water, which allows a unique waterfront experience.
Let us take you back to the earlier, unhurried days of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge area. Leave the busy life behind and return to the days of real relaxation and rest. You can lounge on the deck in the warm summer sun reading a good book, fish from the dock as the water licks at your feet swim in the cool refreshing water, go kayaking down the cove, or just sit and watch the sun sparkle and move across the water and then sink behind the mountains. Come to unplug your family and play board games, star gaze or kayak together. (Unplugging is by choice as we do have cable and internet.)
In its own right, our cabin and dock/bridge are famous - if you're a movie buff. In 1983, several scenes from the movie, Firestarter, were filmed on the property. The most memorable being when Charlie and her dad were captured by 'the Shop' while crossing our very own dock. The film featured an all-star cast with Drew Berrymore, Martin Sheen, & George C. Scott.
The dock/bridge mentioned above extends all the way across the end of the cove(approx. 100 feet)and is truly unique. The entire bridge is ideal for the fishing enthusiast. For your enjoyment, we have 2 Sea Otter kayaks are on hand as well as a canoe, and 12 ft pontoon paddle boat - all ready to explore Sunset Cove and Lake Lure. Life jackets are on hand as well.
We invite you to come and enjoy your own private get-a-way at Papa Bob’s Cabin. It is a one-room cabin with a large private bathroom/changing area. There is a queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa. There is a loft with two twin beds. Appliances include a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, and coffee maker. There is central heat and air and a propane grill. So, bring a good book, your swimsuit, your fishing pole and come relax.

My husband, son, and I had a wonderful stay at this cabin. It is tucked in a quiet little cove of the lake that has some beautiful sunsets. The paddle pontoon was our favorite part of the weekend! The owners were very responsive to a small issue that was out of their control.

Loved staying at Papa Bob’s cabin! The kayaks, canoe and water toys were a hit with the whole family. Our six year old was jazzed about sleeping in the loft—just his size! Would come back again for sure.

My boyfriend and I loved our stay at this relaxing Lake Lure home. We took advantage of the complimentary kayaks, inflatables and paddleboat every day we stayed. This is the perfect spot for postcard pictures and hearing the orchestra of the lake's nighttime crickets. Zero complaints of this location as it was hard leaving.

We had a very nice time for our stay at Papa Bobs cabin. The directions were easy for finding the cabin and for check in. The view is unbelievable from the deck. Everything was very comfortable and convenient. We also found the kitchen to be very well stocked with cookware so it was easy to make ourselves at home. The house was very clean but there were some ants and spiders that found their way in.

This cabin is unassuming and tucked privately at the end of a cove offering amazing views inside and out! It is super cute on the inside with a full kitchen, nice linens and comfortable furniture! There is patio furniture on two different decks, the kayaks were comfortable and sturdy, and the paddle boat was tons of fun! We loved this cabin and would definitely recommend!

From your deck you can view the wonderful lake and the mountains that frame the background. The water is clean and clear and we saw lots of fish around the dock. Kayaking was also great. We got to see a lot of the wildlife and some of the magnificent homes and other landscape features along the shoreline. Thanks Jenny for making our stay one that we'll remember.

This was a great spot for me and my husband to get away, relax in nature, fish, shop, hike and enjoy the local fare. The home was well-equipped and overlooked the Sunset Cove with great photo oops of sunsets. The water level was low but we were made aware of this in advance by Jenny, and she was super responsive, forthcoming of the situation and provided alteralnatives if we so chose. We were happy we stayed at Papa Bob's cabin and look forward to our next trip.

We were enchanted from the first moment! The view down the cove to the mountains is magnificent! Everything in the cabin was perfect - very clean, kitchen well stocked, easy-to-operate TV, great water toys, comfortable bed, and good communication with the owner. We loved it and we'll be back!

The cabin is located in a very scenic and spacious location. Our visit was in late October, and the leaves were absolutely beautiful! The charming cabin is very cozy and had most of the amenities you'd expect from a rental property. The only negatives are the lack of a dishwasher and a very small shower. Utensils and kitchen drawers were not as clean as expected.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay and I would love to revisit the cabin in the future.

Perfect cabin for 2….exceptional views. Very private, yet close to grocery, restaurants and Chimney Rock. Best of the mountains and the lake…I would absolutely return.

We had a wonderful stay at Papa Bob’s. The views are phenomenal; we really enjoyed staring out at those mountains watching the sunset. We had a gorgeous canoe ride, and had a great time watching Fire Starter our first night there - seeing all the places on the property where the movie had been filmed that we had just experienced ourselves was so fun. This is truly a special spot. Quiet tranquility like we’ve never experienced. The close proximity to the Ingles grocery store was also a huge plus.

We had a pleasant relaxing stay in this quiet and peaceful cove. The name really suits this place as every night we experienced a beautiful sunset. Wildlife abound from ducks to fish to deer and even a black bear. The owner was very pleasant to talk to and most accommodating to our stay. Highly recommend this place.

I can't say enough about this property! We combined a special occasion along with a family vacation and could not be more pleased with all the amenities Papa Bob's cabin and location have to offer. Because of the number of family members involved, we rented the adjoining property, Ledford's Landing, so we could all be together. The view of the lake and the amazing sunsets you experience from Papa Bob's is breathtaking! Property manager - Jenny = Awesome!
