My old college roommates and I were looking for a place that was more comfortable than a hotel but close to public transportation such as the Bart and Bus lines. This place was it. Our host was friendly and responsive in our communication. It has everything we needed such as plates and utensils for our takeout and clean fridge for our fruit and milk. The location is ideal as we were close to a lot of cades, bakeries, restaurants and even Target. We hope to book this place again when we are in Berkeley. I highly recommend.

A step back in time to a stay in an older home in Berkeley. It is just a few blocks from where we lived in the 1970's when we were students at CAL and we felt very at home. Beds are very comfortable, the small kitchen very workable and well equipped (we use it for breakfasts and dinners). Would definitely stay here again.

House was well-suited for our party of 3, with a separate bedroom for our high school aged grandson. Coffee shops on nearby San Pablo were convenient. The house obviously needs many improvements but it's fine for a short stay. And the neighborhood is very quiet.
Don't park on the street under the neighbor's tree to avoid a heavy dusting of very sticky sap.

Quiet neighborhood, convenient to BART - very easygoing.

Came to visit family and this place was in a good location

The home is really charming, vintage and simple. Photos depict the space accurately. When the backyard gets done, it will be nice to really enjoy. I hope to stay next time I'm in town as it was a perfect location to get to the university, marina, transit and amenities. Parking on street was no problem. Thank you, Andreas, for sharing the home.

Enjoyed our stay. Enjoyed walking to different parts of Berkley. Quiet neighborhood.

Comfortable, quiet location. It was exactly what we had hoped for. We stayed five nights.

Everything you need is there. The back sections are a little run down but useable. The fenced yard was great for the dog, but could use a cleanup.

Very charming and interior photos are true to the actual property. Andreas is very responsive.

We (3 adults) stayed for a week while visiting family in the Bay Area. We had a car, for which street parking was not an issue. The house has a nice layout with a dining area/breakfast nook off the kitchen. The kitchen is well-equipped if you want to cook. The rooms are comfortable, there's plenty of space to relax, and the wifi worked great. There's a nice yard, but we didn't spend any time out there because of rain. The location is safe and convenient: walking distance to BART, Acme Bread, University Ave/4th street area. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to Gilman ave (REI, Tokyo Fish, Whole Foods). Nice to know we could do laundry. Overall a nice place with a responsive host.
Note: other reviews complained of ants, and we saw some in the bathroom. It was rainy while we were there and the rain likely drove the ants indoors. It wasn't that bad and we took care of them with a little spray of Zevo.

Convenient to stores and restaurants and safe walking neighborhood. Comfortable accommodation but in the room with double bed and air conditioning the window was cracked letting in cold air. But very comfortable bed to sleep.
Ants in bathroom, should have a Keurig and pods to start. Had to keep the bedroom door open for warmth.
The host was available if needed. Again for our 3 night stay it was ok

We had such a lovely stay in this charming home! Andreas was so accommodating and communicated exceptionally quick. The neighborhood was very quiet and walk-able. It was so close to the Berkeley campus that our son was able to walk from campus to the house to greet us. The home was very clean and had all of the items we needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. Andreas set us up with deliciously filtered water and sent some great tips before we arrived. The beds were very comfortable and there were cozy blankets around the house to snuggle up with while watching family movies after a Thanksgiving meal. Parking was surprisingly easy and right in front of the house on the street. We didn't park in the driveway area while visiting, just on the street since it was so accessible.

The property met all our needs for size and location.

My niece is looking to relocate to Berkeley from the East Coast and we wanted to stay somewhere that would provide a good sample experience for a few days. This house and location were the perfect solution. The living area was very clean, with minimalist decor, and all available tech (eg free, wireless, streaming tv, and even an Apple Computer to use). The kitchen is a bit outdated, and the yard needs work, but nothing we didn’t expect based on the accurate listing. The owner, Andrea, was very pleasant, and more than accommodating, when we wanted to arrive a day earlier than our scheduled reservation. One small suggestion would be to provide three prong adapters for the plugs in the bedrooms - or just install upgraded outlets so computers can be plugged in easily. Other than that this was the perfect property and location to provide a feel for what it might be like to live in Berkeley.
4.5
The property met our expectations. There were lots of extra linens and towels. The owner is currently working on the back yard, so it's a bit cluttered, but there is a table with some chairs that are usable.
The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. The property is easily walkable from the North Berkeley BART station, and there are many restaurants nearby.
We had some communication with the host prior to our arrival, and he was exceptionally helpful and curteous - well beyond our expectations.

This lovely home was in a quiet neighborhood but centrally located. Very distinctive in layout and architecture. Within walking distance to many things. The kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals and the rooms were comfortable. Dog park close by (or playground if you have littles). We will definitely be back.

Overall nice. Negatives: things like coffee maker but no coffee; few electrical outlets and lots of electronics and LEDs so lots of power cords; VERY cheap toilet paper (bought some better). Positives: helpful, responsive owner; quiet neighborhood in the vicinity of the Berkeley Marina and close to good restaurants and shopping.

What a great property and an excellent location! A short walk to the BART and a fantastic patio area for those few nights we wanted to stay in. Ordered groceries through PrimeNow and saved a few bucks by having breakfast in the quaint dining area.

The location of this cottage provides restful nights for a parent visiting her UC Berkeley student who lives in a noisy campus environment. Historic charm with IKEA comfort. The Mexican bakery around the corner on San Pedro is a unique experience. Andreas is helpful.

Our family is relatively new to VRBO. We have used Vacasa, and have stayed at VRBO rentals 4 times with other families as the lead renter. The location of this home is great and the price is fine. That being said, we would not stay here again and these are the reasons why:
- four dishes or pans that I pulled from the cupboards had dried food on them. Yuck!
- the sheets on one of the twin beds had stains on them. Gross!
-The ceiling in the bathroom has brown grease spots from condensation, which are easily cleaned if someone was paying attention to detail. Really gross to look at when one is showering to get clean!
-the window locks are super sketchy and old; two barely work. While the neighborhood is technically safe (it is Berkeley; we lived there for 3 years), it really disconcerting when you open the blinds and can lift the windows straight up. They were not even latched when we arrived. Very sloppy!
- when the heater turns off it makes a pinging noise for almost 15 minutes. Not a problem if one is leaving for the day but if trying to fall asleep, really a annoying!
-Also, the description states that there is parking in the ‘shared driveway”. THis however is untrue. The neighbor very kindly let me know that they bought the house next door so the driveway is technically theirs. One must park on the street, which is fine, but she did share that she has asked the owner to change that in the description several times. Again, attention to detail.

very clean home near 4th st shops and restaurant close to freeway access to San Francisco and in one direction and wine country in the other direction. The home, like all in this nice area of Berkley, is small yet adequately sized except for the bathroom which is exceedingly small. The reason for the loss of two stars is because of the disregard shown for the furnishing of the home. Nothing matched, the tv in the living room instead of being mounted on wall above the fireplace, instead sits on an end table from the master bedroom, cables exposed. There is a cheap desk in what once was the dining room along with a lounger of some sort. It seems as if it was furnished with items from a garage sale. The other major complaint is also indicative of the little regard for the guests and that is the bathroom tissue which could not be of a cheaper variety, so thin it was completely translucent. I don't expect luxury in this price range but is Charmin too much to ask?
