About this cottage rental

THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE...

Duck Duck Goose is a serene retreat that allows its guest to be completely ensconced in the traditional Maine way of life. This carriage house, tucked away in the Maine woods, sits on the edge of Duck Cove, overlooking Blue Hill Bay and all of its lovely islands. The privacy and beauty allow for quiet walks along the rocky coast beach, sitting on the private dock viewing a delightful sunrise or sunset, and viewing stars that can only be seen in the Maine skies. Located on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island allows for seclusion and reflection while still having the small towns within comfortable driving distance. Acadia National Park makes up the island of MDI and is a short drive away. The mountains to hike, roads to bike, and water to paddle or boat, make this location more special than most. This quaint carriage home was built in August 2012 and offers a comfortable, warm cottage feeling with all the makings of your own home. The first floor living space includes your entry, laundry, full bath, family room and bedroom with two double beds, not to mention three sets of lovely French doors never leaving you without a view of the water that lead out to a very large Maine style porch complete with rocking chairs and wicker furniture to enjoy.**The second floor invites you to its grand living/dining space with overhead loft and open kitchen, allowing all guests to be near. There are also two bedroom on this floor, one with queen bed and the other with 2 twins. The bathroom provides a soaking tub, a separate shower, a private loo and forest views. Every room has dimmed lighting, comfortable seating, water views and immaculate furnishings. The dining table hosts 8 all the while taking in the ocean breezes and the beautiful outdoors. Not one stone was left unturned. While relaxing in the warm comforts indoors, you will still want to find your way outdoors. Along the carriage home leading to the water is a lovely forest trail which includes a fireside retreat as well as ocean front dining. Enjoy your cocktails listening to the tide wash up on the rocks, or build a fire and grab your marshmallows to roast. Further enjoy a wonderful private dock where you can sunbathe, enjoy your morning coffee or put your boat into the water and go for a paddle. It's hard to decide where you want to be, inside or out, but this Maine carriage home awaits your company. FREE WI-FI.
** The pictures listed on this site show the portions of the porch that have been completed. There is a small section of the porch that has not been completed to the side of the house.
***** A three car garage on the first floor of the cottage is an owner's garage and is not accessible for renters use. If you desire to bring canoes or kayaks, they are safe and secure near the waters edge. If you wish to bring bicycles, they are safe within our private community and may be sheltered from in-climate weather under our back porch.

What a wonderful location to enjoy all the beauties of Maine. Sara was an excellent host and went out of her way to make our trip special. The house is absolutely gorgeous and fully stocked to make it feel like a home away from home. A must stay!

We had a great trip to Maine and the DUCK DUCK GOOSE house is set in an amazing serene beautiful setting. We woke up when the sun rose and went to sleep when the sun set. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises to watch each day even with different weather days.. Rocky beach had lots of climbing adventures for the kids .Being on the quiet side of the island was great. We were able to get to everything easily. Southwest Harbor is nearby for some good food. Great location and house!

This home is beautiful inside and out and very comfortable. Sara is very helpful and warm. The property, with its waterfront views, direct access and dock to the protected ocean is spectacular. Our family loved every minute spent on the water- jumping, swimming, reading and kayaking off the floating dock. We loved the fire pit and star gazing in the evening. We enjoyed walking the nearby trails, driving to close restaurants and nearby attractions. It let us immerse ourselves in the beauty of Maine, the peace and quiet of the home and its property as well as the hikes, dining and shopping at all the popular Acadia spots. We were visited by a small family of river otters who put on a sweet little show for us as we sat on the dock. A real treasure.

Lovely Property
Lovely Property
Duck Duck Goose provided us with some really amazing views and outdoor activities. We loved star gazing from the dock, napping beside the water in the comfy hammock and fun filled fire pit nights roasting marshmallows. The kitchen was well stocked. The living room was cozy and the puzzle was a great touch that we all participated in. The dining room table was large enough for all of us to sit for dinner and game night. We did find the curtain-less/blind-less windows in the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom a bit uncomfortable. Although the house is in a private area there are neighbors who we easily saw going to/from the dock from the bedroom/bathroom windows so not having any privacy to use the bathroom or change in the bedrooms made it uncomfortable. The French doors that lead off of the upstairs living area do not have an attached deck. At the time of our stay the downstairs deck was not complete. There is an open doorway from the deck with ropes strung across that leads down into the rocks so this might be a hazard for small children. The completed deck area is a lovely spot. Acadia and Bar Harbor are a short drive away.

Privacy, Peace and Tranquility
Privacy, Peace and Tranquility
This property can be described with just three words - privacy, peace and tranquility. If your vacation goal is to recharge your battery, then this is the place for you. The ducks will be there each morning to greet you and maybe even a couple of sea otters! I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet getaway.
