The region
Exmoor is situated in South West Britain, specifically across West Somerset and North Devon. Often referred to as England's best kept secret, Exmoor is a wonderful holiday destination for anyone looking for a holiday in the great outdoors! There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets.
Often described as 'the jewel in Exmoor's crown', Porlock has a long history of settlements existing on or near the site of the existing village, with stone-age remains only a short distance away. Porlock is a working village and boasts a number of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops. There are few more delightful surroundings than Porlock Vale, nestled at the foot of Porlock Hill, bounded to the north by its shingle ridge and breath taking views towards the Bristol Channel, and to the south by the rolling hills of the Exmoor National Park. The Exmoor coastline is formed mainly of cliffs but at Porlock the land flattens out and a unique mile long shingle ridge and an inland salt marsh have formed. For the bird watcher this is a very interesting site as a great variety of waders and wildfowl can be seen here in the winter as well as the occasional unusual bird passing through.
Today Porlock is a wonderful working Exmoor village and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre, several art galleries and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.

A spacious, very comfortably furnished large house. Extremely well facilitated kitchen with a beautiful, old wooden dining table. Views to die for!
Minor points: GF bedroom off the dining area needs blackout curtains and its bathroom needs frosted glass.

Brilliant house for a group in our case or two families. Kitchen had everything and more. Loads of space throughout the house and even a balcony and a play room for kids. BBQ area is great. Say thanks to the owners from us please, as I have hired many places like this and it is the best we have used. Great for walking and mountain biking. Loved the walks and tracks nearby. Cannot fault it , felt like home. If there is a next time I will book a longer break. IAN from Newcastle Upon Tyne

Fabulous property with wonderful views, comfortable beds and ample space. We originally booked Redway Lodge for two families attending a local wedding, unfortunately the wedding was postponed due to COVID-19, however we were so pleased that we did not cancel as we had a perfect time here. An excellent place to relax and enjoy what Porlock had to offer. Weather was fantastic too! We would love to return again for the wedding next year but sadly Redway is already booked up.
4.8
Fantastic house, even better than the photos, so much space for four retired couples to spend new year.
4.8
Fantastic house in a great location. Lots of space, in our case for three couples, equipped to a high standard with everything we needed and more. High point is the balcony giving wonderful views across the Severn Estuary to Wales. This is probably the best value house of it's type we have ever used, so please pass our thanks to the owners.
We had a problem with a shower door one morning, called the number given in the handbook and it was fixed within a couple of hours. That is what I call service!
Porlock and the surrounding area is a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday; we may well return......
4.8
Fantastic location for walking from the house, and great views, and plenty of places to dry wet gear.
Comfortable house. There were 9 of us and it worked well..
We had a pleasant evening meal at The Ship, which was less thank 5 min walk away, on the edge of Porlock. We would come again.
4.8
Fantastic view, lots of parking, quiet, spacious. Interesting to read history of house. Lack of info about actual area from visitor perspective (plenty on Dorset etc). Free/donation parking at tourist info centre. Good TI centre. Lots of lovely little local shops.
4.8
Gorgeous location - easy walk into pretty villages and beautiful views. House is well set up to accommodate large groups. We had a lot of fun here on a family holiday. Make sure to bring soap, toilet roll and dishwasher tablets as these are not provided on arrival.
4.8
Great location and ample room.
Views from balcony were superb and with great weather a nice please to sit of an evening. Shops in Porlock had everything we needed and there were plenty of places to eat. Overall we were very pleased and enjoyed our time there. Would love to visit again.
4.8
House is fabulous. Luxury in a beautiful spot. Lovely little village easy walking distance. Wonderful view from the house balcony. Lots of toys, children loved the playroom and garden. and the child dining table. Kitchen is so lovely we hardly used the lounge which is also comfortable and a lovely room. the only reason I put 4 start for location is because you need to get the car out to visit a sandy beach, but this is clear from the details. All in all we had a wonderful family holiday at Redway!
4.8
It is in an amazing location with stunning views. Porlock is a vibrant village with good facilities and very central for all that this area has to offer. Plenty of parking at the property.
4.8
It was great to have childrens play room which they really enjoyed and gave adults free time.
Couldn't fault location.
4.8
Just a really lovely spacious house - very clean and comfortable in a wonderful position for walks on exmoor
4.8
Location excellent. House spacious and warm and well equipped. Plenty of local walks and a local bus service. Open top bus to Lynmouth across the moors worth a trip with the cliff railway up to Lynton. Plenty of good tearooms and some nice shops. If you want to go to Coleridge's cottage ensure you book well in advance - we didn't and couldn't get a slot. Dunster and the castle well worth a visit.
Porlock shops very friendly and useful Tourist Information centre. The meat from the local butcher was excellent. Not all local tearooms and restaurants were open during our stay but the Whortleberry Tearoom was clean and friendly with wonderful cakes.
A wonderful area to explore and would return.

Excellent pizzas and food at Porlcock Weir hotel.
It was an ideal property for a group of adults but also looked well equipped for children. The sunny balcony was the icing on the cake with the wonderful views.

Lovely house, perfect for a large group. Great location with amazing view. Highly recommended.
4.8
Lovely location and views wonderful from the balcony across Porlock Bay. The great plus is having four bathrooms and space for parking on site for 4-5 cars at least. Cleeve Abbey and Selworthy village were our new visits this time (2nd stay) at Redway) and were well worth the trip out for us.
Ideal for meeting up with family/friends for a get together.
4.8
Lovely location, wonderful views.
4.8
Lovely place plenty of room ideal for a family holiday.
4.8
Lovely spacious accommodation. Well-equipped kitchen. Great to have playroom for the toddler and cot in room off parents' room. All bedrooms with their own en suite so nice. Great for our all-extended family stay. Many thanks.

Lovely spacious house with all you need for your holiday and beautiful views across the bay from the balcony, where we saw plenty of shooting stars when the skies were clear. The children loved the well stocked playroom. We had an issue with one of the fridges not working and contacted Adrian who quickly arranged for someone to fix it. Well done for your speedy response!

Seven fussey Golden Oldies, friends for over 55 years, have been visiting Porlock for a number of years on and off and we unanimously vote this the best venue yet.
Fabulous views, super en suite rooms and everything we needed., total comfort.
Acid test, would we go again? Yes!
4.8
Spacious house, wonderful views and great location. Had beautiful walks, there are local shops and pubs nearby.
Lovely place to stay. Thank you.
4.8
Thanks to covid we made it on our third attempt! A lovely property with plenty of space with our three families. The children's room was brilliant as it meant they had their own space to play and the fact they had 'new' toys meant they were happily occupied. The views from the property are stunning and it would be lovely to visit in the summer when use could be made of the balcony and garden. It is a short walk down to Porlock where we were able to purchase essential supplies for our stay. Would recommend.
