MORE UNIT DETAILS:
Ideal location, you never need to step foot on an elevator. When you want to go to the pool walk down the air-conditioned hallway directly out to the Splash pool/play area and seasonally heated pool. The unique indoor hallway makes moving in your luggage much more comfortable during the summertime heat. The Kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a nice open serving area allowing for guest to relax and mingle while the chef in the group completes everyone's meal.
The bunkroom has its own door and cable TV which are a unique feature added to this unit after construction was completed. Both bedrooms are set up as masters with direct access to the balcony for convenience. They also both have KING SIZE bed's, this is rare to find at Waterscape. Each bedroom has a private on suite bathroom, with an oversized tub & shower. The master has his and her sinks. The children will enjoy use of the half bath allowing for more privacy in each of the two masters.
Finally, we provide the best of both worlds access directly to the owner to book your unit and local professional management services in case something requires immediate attention.
CAN YOU HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE U-SHAPED BUILDING AT WATERSCAPE?
Generally, units closer to the sand will cost more to rent, and will be further from parking. Please keep in mind the entire complex is located on the beach and every unit is a short walk to the ocean!
Only 12 units are directly parallel to the ocean without an angled view or distance of about 80-100 yards to the sand. The left side of the U is the A building, the bottom is the C building, and the right side is the B building. All of what makes Waterscape the best resort for kids in the Destin area are the pools that lie in the middle of the U.
Our A225 unit is located one unit from entrance to the interior hallway in the A building. Most units do not have access via an interior climate controlled hallway. This entrance is the closest location in the A building to the COVERED parking garage and back entrance to the splash pool. This means you can access pools, grills, and parking without getting on an elevator in less than 30 seconds.
If you want to see the pools and resort grounds, you should stay in the C building, or in even numbered units in the A or B building. If you want things quieter, the odd numbered units in A or B face the outside of the property. Nearly all the odd numbered units in A & B will have a narrow view or no view of the ocean between the buildings. Our A225 balcony faces the brand-new hotel completed in 2017. While depending upon palm tree growth you can see water, I do not consider this or 80%+ of the A & B odd # units to have a "view" of the ocean. If you want a nice view of the ocean you should stay in the first three stacks of the A & B building on at least the 2nd floor or higher!
WHY DID WE CHOOSE THIS LOCATION AT WATERSCAPE?
My wife and I had young kids under the age of 2 when we purchased our Waterscape unit. We found over the years most our time was spent around the splash pool with the slide and the grills for cooking. We also found that we seem to bring half of our house with us on vacation. Being extremely close to the car and the splash pool area is a no brainer for convenience.

**RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS**
On the Island: (Walking Distance)
The best restaurant is Old Bay Steamer, it is a bit pricey but excellent. We love the atmosphere of The Gulf, this is a container ship restaurant located outside the kids will play for hours. Stewby's is great for fresh fish at a "value" price. Fubar is on the water a bit like a dive college bar, but they have solid bar food and pizza with live music. At the boardwalk our favorite location with a view of the ocean is Rockin Taco, food is good the view is fantastic! Rick's on the island has excellent gumbo, they use cheese grits in instead of rice!
Downtown FWB: (Less than 1 mile away) We love the vibe of downtown FWB. It is sort of like a college bar hits a gritty arts scene. They have about 15 restaurants that are all walkable. KC's Sandbar usually has live music outside in the sand during season with solid wings and a huge beer selection. We love Taste for tapas. The Boardroom and Cowhead have great sandwiches, too! Alis Bistro is solid Italian with a nice happy hour. They also have food trucks, my wife loves Parlor Doughnuts. Maas coffee roasters has excellent coffee! You should check for activities and festivals, too. The farmers market is the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8 AM to 1 PM. Finally a bit past downtown in FWB is The Bavarian's Wirtshaus, this is an authentic German restaurant that our friend from Europe says is a close as it gets to the real deal.

Not a good experience
When we first arrived at this location the unit smelled like someone had been smoking. The cleaners had left the patio doors open, probably in an attempt to air it out, but we could still smell it for several days. I notified the management company of the issue and was told there was nothing they could do and I should just let it air out. I was instructed to call them back the next day if it didn't help. We tried to leave the patio doors open and thought it was a little better the next day, until we left the room and came back, where we instantly started smelling it again. I called them and left a voicemail the next day and got no reply. I also texted the owner at the same time and got no reply. A few days later, the smell was better but we could still smell it when first entering. I texted the owner again and he said he had a medical problem and would have the management company call me back. They did, but wanted to stop by to see if they could smell it. I told them my kids had just gotten to sleep for their nap and i'd call back once they woke up. I did that around 5 and left a voicemail again and never got a response. By then we were leaving in a couple days so i just dropped it. After we left i notified the owner i was probably going to leave a bad review, and all i got were excuses about us not letting the manager onto the property and that they never received any voicemails (which we both not true). This place might have been a nice place (the pools were nice and the beach was great) but smelling smoke in the unit all week just turned us off to this location. Stay away unless you don't care about having a bad experience when you have issues.

Waterscapes
Our stay was ok. Property was a little dirty once check in, food in couch, dirty walls, and popcorn under bunks mattresses. Pool was not very family friendly. Way overcrowded and so called adults couldnt swim without a beer in their hands. Pool and beach were full of drunks with kids running wild and no workers keeping things in line. Once it was dark get your children indoors because the party began outside in pool and parking garage. Wasnt a good experience with younger children.

Great Place To Stay!
My family spent the past week (3/14/20 - 3/21/20) in Waterscape A225 and had a fantastic time! I booked through VRBO which was easy, but just realized that we can now book directly w/ Destin West Escapes...which we will make use of next time as I am already planning a return visit.
The resort itself is in great shape and is very clean. The various pools are what initially attracted us to the resort, and our kids had a blast moving between the lazy river, waterfalls, and lily pads. The beach was beautiful, and the staff was very helpful and attentive.
Additionally, our vacation "straddled" the date w/ which the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting local businesses, public beaches, and travel. Upon leaving for vacation, there were not any travel restrictions, but a few days later everything had changed.
I was easily able to communicate directly w/ the owner (Rick Engle), to receive updates along with additional information. We knew this was a possibility, but Rick was willing to work with his customers given the extreme circumstances. My family chose to continue w/ our stay since all of Waterscape's amenities were still open, and felt we would be able to distance ourselves from other families. In the end, everything worked out for the best and we cannot wait to return. Thank you Destin West Escapes!

Family Friendly
We had an amazing week at the beach! This property is clean, easy access from the parking garage, splash pad and pools. We came to Fort Walton Beach to celebrate our adoption and this property didn’t disappoint!! It was completely family centered from the bunk rooms to the pool areas.

LOVED WATERSCAPE!
We loved Waterscape! It was our children's first time being in Florida and the three different pools, plus the lazy river, were perfect for our 4 year old, 2 year old, and 8 month old boys. The pools and surrounding areas were clean. The room was perfect, giving us plenty of space as well as the at-home feeling we need traveling with small children. Our room was well equipped with kitchen utensils and dishes and having in-room laundry was a life saver. The bathrooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. It was great having a DVD rental on-site for our children. We walked to the Gulfarium and several restaurants during our stay which was really convenient. Overall we loved our stay and will go back--the location and pool for the kids makes this place a must stay!

The condo is awesome, just not as clean as we prefer
The condo is totally awesome. Only complaint would be that it isn't as clean as we would clean our own home, but for some it may not be an issue, and we never complained to the owner, because everything else was awesome.
Thanks

Great Florida Vacation
This condo allowed for a great spring break vacation for my family, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law; 7 people in total. The accommodations in the condo was great for our group. The two bedrooms are both suites with a bathroom off both of them. The bunk-room was nice for kids; both my 10 and seven year old loved it. It reminded them of the bunks at great wolf lodge. We had one day that the weather was really cool and which made the beach too cold to hang out on but the heated pool was sheltered enough from the wing and warm enough that we didn't mind and the kids could swim comfortably with air temps in the 50's. On the warm days the beach was right there. The resort put out two chairs and an umbrella for each room to use.
The location is good. We were looking for something for the family and not crazy spring breakers and this was what we found with this condo; however, it wasn't too far from the attractions. We drove into Pensacola for a day and visited the naval air museum on a day the Blue Angels were practicing. That was amazing! Destin had several cruises to choose from, we did a dolphin cruise and saw several dolphins.
Everyone came away from the vacation feeling great about it, eager to do it again next year. The condo really felt like a vacation home and we are glad we stayed.

Property is clean and beautiful
Our week would have been perfect if the weather had cooperated better!
But we eventually got a couple days of sun. We were a bit surprised at first to find a balcony view of the parking lot and not the splash pad area but our first night we were treated to a beautiful surprise fireworks display!
There are tons of kid friendly things to do just down the road in Destin.

Would not rent from the owner
I would not rent from this owner-
On October 6th we checked into the property, with my husband and 5 year old twins. The location was good and condo space was clean and spacious. This is an inside unit, and it does face construction, another hotel & parking lot view. Kitchen was supplied but quality of pots, pans, dishes, silverware, cups, etc. was lacking. The property had an amazing pool with splash pad and lazy river for the kids. I would recommend Waterscape, just not renting from Rick.
On October 8th, the second day of vacation, the property crew began around 11am walking the pool area, taking all chairs that were not occupied, by 1pm, the property crew began removing chairs that had personal items due to preparation for Hurricane Michael. There was not much communication, everyone was frustrated and anxious. By 4pm, almost all pool chairs had been removed from the property as well as grills. This was my second day and I couldn’t even enjoy it because the entire place was shutting down. I contacted Rick- He was not understanding. I traveled to waterscape with 3 other families (who rented from other owners) & they with were all contacted by their property owners and told they encouraged them to evacuate and they would be refunded 4 days due to the facility shut down, SO we made the choice to evacuate also. It wasn’t worth staying if the facility was not usable, and maybe unsafe. My family chose to rent a vehicle and drive all the way back to Indiana, because we had flown to Florida- The rental company provided us with a partial discount for evacuating and Allegiant even gave us a refund on our tickets due to the DESTIN AIRPORT closing. I understand we didn’t have "trip insurance" but neither did any of the families we traveled with- you would think Rick would have the decency to give us some of our lost money back. I wouldn’t rent from Rick because he obviously doesn't do the right thing. *Hurricane Michael is the first category 4 hurricane to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle EVER! This is an unusual circumstance and I hoped he had enough decency to realize that. This is what Rick offer a credit for a future visit falling in 2018 or 2019 in the amount of $150 during spring break, fall break, or summer months. We would bump this up to $225 during any other weeks.
I don't like to provide reviews like this, but I just feel angry about the situation & would hope that perspective renters would want to how Rick handled my situation.

We really enjoyed our stay at Rick’s condo. Clean and spacious. Anyone with children would love it. Our 3 yr. old grandson couldn’t get enough of all the pools. Thank you Rick for sharing your home with us. The only thing I would suggest would to maybe have a small rug inside the front door and a doormat on the balcony when coming in. Just to help with the sand. Otherwise it was a great place. Hope to come back again. Thanks!

Great stay!
We had a wonderful stay at this condo. It was very convenient being on the same level as the splash pad. Our only 2 complaints were how bright the bedrooms were in the morning, it could definitely use a more heavy duty curtain as the sun was pouring in at 6 am every morning and we couldn’t seem to get the thermostat below 75, so it was usually very hot in the condo. All in all though the condo was wonderful. It had everything we needed for our stay and we would definitely stay here again.

Very accommodating and our unit was spacious enough for our family and convenient to pools.
Beautiful Resort on beach! Plenty of options for kids and close to nearby activities and restaurants. Will definitely stay there again! Fabulous vacation and lots of memories were made!

Just An OK.
The owner, Rick is very nice to work with. I appreciated his quick responses to my inquiries.
The room was just okay. I highly suggest hiring a new cleaning service as we had to clean the room ourselves after it was cleaned for the second time after our arrival. This doesn’t reflect the owner as he was nothing but kind.
