Hiking beautiful location if you have a rental car, there is an epic drive that goes up the most amazing switchback and then a spectacular hike along a waterfall about one hour dr. from the hotel

Beautiful location
No fridge in the room

Great location. The historic building was beautiful. Most rooms I think have a beautiful view. It was clean and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was very good, in a wonderful room.
The rooms are a bit dated, but it didn’t bother us too much. The elevator made creaky noises, which was a bit unsettling, but it functioned, so it was OK.

Brilliant fjord views
Rooms were really tired and old - they need complete renovation.
Hot Breakfast items were completely cold. Had to send them back twice, eventually they heated up in microwave

Zimmer äusserst einfach eingerichtet, keine Minibar, Mobiliar abgewohnt . Kleines Badezimmer mit 1 Lavabo und Douche in der Badewanne.

Localização e a vista maravilhosa do quarto
As instalações estão desgastadas. Banheiro muito antigo. Hotel e quartos precisando ser revitalizados.

Meget bra frokost og personlig service med kaffe etc, perfekt ved vannet..
Rommet virket noe slitt og gammelt bad med badekar..

Location and views
Although an historic building it could do with some modernization in the bathrooms

It was a beautiful site. The views were indescribably beautiful.
The rooms were pretty basic but the views were exceptional.

Location on fjord with ladder to get in. Quiet neighborhood. Beautiful views. Breakfast. Views from breakfast.

The original old building, historic as it is, is wonderfull, with beautifull common areas.
The original old building, historic as it is, is wonderfull, with beautifull common areas.
The annex behind it, which houses the majority of the rooms, is a ghastly 60's building, built along the lines of a hostel. Bathroom uncomfortably unusable, a tiny 60's showerhead over an old bath tub - an accident waiting to happen.
The room we had was smallish, and wasn't well cleaned, the bed was strangely made with a couple of overlaping small sheets (see pics)
I definitely wouldn't recomend and for sure wouldn't visit again

Beautiful historic hotel. Absolutely amazing location. We loved our short stay here.
We loved the quiet, however we think the hotel and especially the restaurant and lounge areas would benefit from some light background music.

Helpfull staff
Early closing of all food service.
Could have been good to have been offered a room option in the old part.

The property was close to everything we needed

The breakfast was wonderful! The dining room looked over the Fjord and was spectacular. I wish I could have stayed another night.
I felt a little pressure to eat in one of the restaurants in the hotel. We found dinner at a quaint place with an amazing story just steps from the hotel.

The old part is quite lovely. the location on the water’s edge is also quite wonderful. The breakfast was good.
The annex is rather dated and the bathrooms while clean and functional could really do with some modernization.

The location was beautiful and we had a great visit. The dinner buffet was very tasty.
It was quite expensive. While the dinner buffet was very tasty, we only did it one night because of the cost.

The views from the rooms (we were in the large non-historic addition) were spectacular - of course it would be nearly impossible to have non-spectacular views in Balestrand. The common rooms were classic old hotel spaces - large, grand, and with magnificent views! The breakfast buffet was excellent. The art gallery - both the space (with the enormous, thick slabs of granite on the walls) and the exhibit (photos by Wilhelm Dreesen) were remarkable! Highly recommended!
The food options for our vegan daughter were very limited - although this seems to be the case throughout the area.

Loved the location
The staff was very unfriendly and rude. Dealing with them was difficult. They should look at ways to welcome customers and make them feel more comfortable instead of giving a bad experience . Especially Mr David who wasn’t accommodating to even have our breads sliced and was extremely impolite for someone dealing with the hospitality.

Great breakfast with a large selection. Very friendly staff. Tesla destination charger, as well as generic vehicle charging options available. Room had a nice balcony (new wing). Historic hotel at a good location. Enjoyed our stay.
The restaurant did not offer the dinner buffet due to covid (but the breakfast buffet was available). Options for eating in the area was therefore limited to a single menu option in the restaurant, burgers and other bar food in the lobby bar, and a couple of restaurants next door (on days they were open). The new wing could benefit from an upgrade, especially the bathrooms. Note that rooms do not have air conditioning; I left balcony door open and there was quite a bit of noise outside both nights until midnight.

Old style hotel by the sea that gives you a prehistoric feeling. Nice food and staff! Small cozy "town" with a nice beach!
