My Fiancé and I went for our 7-year anniversary celebration as well to check out the resort for a potential wedding venue for 2024. We stayed for a total of 4 nights.
Once we arrived, we were given warm towels to clean our hands and champagne as a refreshment prior to checking in. Checking in was pretty quick and efficient. We cannot recall the name but someone from VIP desk had told us there was going to be a celebratory complimentary lunch as the hotel had turned 7 years since being open as well as a tour. If we signed up, we'd get one out of three options of gifts for our time. My Fiancé and I thought nothing of it and signed up for the complimentary lunch and tour. The Bellhop took us to our junior suite room. The room was clean. Since we got there pretty late, we enjoyed an average early dinner at "Seaside Grill" and service was great.
We also enjoyed the theater events and majority of staff members were always helpful and very nice. We ended up at the spa after a grueling 3-hour sales pitch-- massages were average as well. I wish they had told us bathing suits were a necessity so we could enjoy the sauna and quiet area they take you to prior to the massage session.
Out of the 9 restaurants we only tried Portofino, Coco Cafe, Bordeaux, Seaside Grill, & Market Cafe-- Service for the most part was good however, we were not impressed with any of the meals or food choices. For the "Himitsu" restaurant in order to get full experience you have to reserve.
During our time at the beach, we had salespeople come up to us for $30 snorkeling experience to see the sea turtles. If you are not aware snorkeling is FREE (i.e. the resort provides free life vest and you need to purchase $4 snorkel mouthpiece). At 12pm we went back to the lobby for our complimentary lunch & tour. Once we got to the lobby we are again checked in and information was obtained from our IDs. We were told it would only take 90 minutes of our time. I had an appointment at the spa for hair and makeup trial for my potential wedding for 2024. I was asked to reschedule/cancel as they didn't want us to feel rushed during the lunch and tour. Odd request but ok -- no issues from our side again.
Well let's just say this was NOT a complimentary lunch as we were taken to the Buffet for a quick lunch (didn't get to finish my wine & how exactly is it complimentary when we already paid as it's an ALL-INCLUSIVE resort?). The tour was not really a tour-- we were shown a presidential suite only and were later taken to a sales room where Chris and Stefanie proceeded to try to sell us a membership for an obscene amount of money. We discussed and eventually said "No" multiple times. At one point, we explained that our wedding is our main priority, and we could not become members at the moment. Their response was "forget the wedding and envision all these options".
We understand that COVID impacted many businesses, however this comment was NOT professional and was EXTREMELY rude. What was meant to be 90 minutes took 3 hours- Imagine that! you are on vacation meant to relax and enjoy your time for a potential 30+ guest event and spoken to in such a way. Out of the whole experience this was the only thing that left a bad taste. So bad, we put a formal complaint to the marketing manager, Noel.

My only regret about staying at this resort is that we didn't book for more time! The staff were excellent, the food incredible, and the facilities extremely clean. We grabbed free snorkel gear from the hotel and would get up early to swim with the sea turtles. I can't wait to visit again!
It's a little far from the airport, but we used AMSTAR for the transfer which was seamless.

Staff and bars
Distance from the airport. The facility should have transportation for its guests.

Pure paradise, staff were superb, they cannot do enough for you.
The all-inclusive is great, unlike some all inclusive places the drinks brands are all top tier.
The choice of restaurant and the quality of the food is also great (Himitsu & Portofino we’re our personal faves).
There is also a ‘quiet’ pool which is super relaxing, and then down by the swim up bar it’s a bit more lively.
We went for our honeymoon, and we cannot wait to go back!
Absolutely nothing.

A wonderful resort with a lush landscape and very friendly staff. The spa and grounds are beautiful.
Signage was lacking. The resort is not terribly large, but it took many days to find our way. Some signs would point you to your destination, but find yourself at a 2 or 3 fork with no signage or signage suddenly missing your destination. Pool in February was not heated enough. Many complaints about this and hot tub too cool. SPA price gouging.

the property was amazing, the staff were incredible, and the food was outstanding.
the bed was very firm but the pillow menu made up for it.
3.5
staff excellent
secrets box in room was a great idea
fun activities
beach area is nice with lots of lounge chairs with shade
2nd visit there
the drinks and bar services are very good
the food wasn't the best; not bad, but could be improved
and the buffet restaurant closed at 3 pm
so for solo female, it would be better to have this option for dinner
this is why the rating isn't higher

This was our 2nd time visiting Secrets Akumal; we enjoyed it so much last year that we returned, bringing another couple with us, introducing them to the all-inclusive concept (they are now fans!!). Because of that, Secrets upgraded us to the Preferred Club, which has some wonderful benefits. Our room was at the back of the property, near the spa, which was perfect for us, as we love spending time at the Quiet Pool. Eli (Eliezer) was the pool concierge, and he did a fantastic job, as well servers Samuel, Jesus, Israel, and Evomm (not spelled correctly, I’m sure). The last day we had Antonio as the pool concierge, who was wonderful too. Secrets does an excellent job in training their employees - everyone is very friendly, courteous, helpful, and professional, seeing to our every want and need. The resort itself is beautiful, with wandering paths through a jungle atmosphere. All the restaurants are excellent, and the servers there are also so well trained. We enjoyed the pools and snorkeling off the beach, as there is some coral with quite a few fish. Secrets Akumal has become our favorite relaxing vacation spot!
