Good place to stay

Room only.

The hotel was clean great location for the event we were attending and the wavering meal we had was amazing.
We stayed in room 204 on the top floor the walls where paper thin. Our neighbours returned late after 12 midnight and were very loud. The language was atrocious and vulgar. This was repeated in the morning when they awoke. Also waking us. I work in construction and in all my 30 years i never been so shocked at the use of vulgar language. This reduced the quality of your sleep and overall stay.

Breakfast was excellent and exceeded expectations

Rooms were fantastic! We had the recently upgraded, adjoining, rooms by the car park. Beautifully done. Also, we were very happy with our meal in the restaurant.
The wifi was not good in our rooms but better in the main part of the pub/hotel.

Friendly welcome. Great food . Great location .
All good.

The location of the hotel was great. Right on the main street and easy parking (if you can get some). Great breakfast too. Would recommend if you want to stay in the area.
I would say the room was a little dated, but that added to the charm. The room was warm overnight, but nothing but AC would've sorted that. We kept the window open but it did add to the noise due to the busy street outside.

Staff pleasant and helpful. We got the last available room which I expect they avoided letting. Two comfortable single beds.
The bathroom was tiny, no light over the mirror, macerator with the lavatory and a complicated heating system with the shower. The carpet needed a good scrub.

We had a newly renovated room (107) very smart, clean & well decorated Ground floor "cottage" room outside the main building. Staff great, breakfast great, location great
The room We had was outside, next to the kitchen area and beer garden. Can be very noisy of you were expecting sleep before 11pm. Bed was quite hard, booked a room with bath but no bath was in. .

The hotel is in a good location and is full of character. The bed was really comfortable, I slept very well. The staff were helpful and friendly, particularly Mel who was lovely.
As it’s such an old building there’s no secondary glazing - completely understandable - so the street below can be a little noisy. There are rooms at the back I believe so, if noise is an issue, request one of these at time of booking.

Very clean, great location, fantastic staff
I don’t think there was anything I didn’t like, it was superb.

Hotel originally built in the 16th century. I thought the room charming with oak beams etc. Appropriately furnished, reasonable space for a single room. Parts of the hotel are more recent.
The plumbing was "difficult". The water pressure on the second floor was poor but then good plumbing in a 16th century building must be challenging.

My room was very comfortable and the food in the evening and at breakfast was excellent. The hotel was conveniently located close to the river and the town's shops and other facilities.
The bathroom was very clean but could do with some refurbishment. There was a bath but no shower and the drainage was a little noisy. It was quite difficult manoeuvering into and out of the car park.

lovely old hotel with comfortable seating in cosy sitting rooms - period decor and furnishings. my room was very spacious clean and welcoming. hotel is in centre of the village . what made this stay so memorable was the staff. the young woman on reception was helpful professional and efficient. another member of staff - whose name I did not obtain- when she saw my walking disability immediately offered a ground floor room when she realised my original room booking was for the upper floor. she went out of her way to escort me to this room and show me the facilities and urged me to tell her if I should need anything. she was extremely kind and thoughtful- such a delightful change from the indifference usually meted out by some hotel staff I have encountered. the following morning I met another member of staff who was just as kind and thoughtful, attending to my request for a cup of tea as I did not want to have breakfast- bringing it to me as I sat in the comfortable sitting room. Thank you White Lion- your staff are a credit to you.

staff were outstanding and couldn’t be more helpful.
Meals were excellent too
The property is in the middle of being renovated. facilities in the public areas were smart. however the bedrooms hadn’t been started during our stay, these being next on the list. if the effort shown in the public area is anything to go by, then they will look lush

Rooms a little tired, however were clean and warm

Very friendly staff, lively bar, nice old building in central location, convenient car parking.
Cold (heating switched off at midnight while it was -2 outside), annoying fan noise which continued through the night. Decor was, being polite, tired and in need of a refurb, front desk closed after 11 (with all ground floor lights off) and still closed when I left at 8, so couldn’t speak to anyone about it.
