About this house rental
Call of the Bluff is a beautifully restored farmhouse set up on a hill overlooking Keuka Lake. Just 5 minutes from Hammondsport and with a view up Keuka lake all the way up to the Keuka Lake bluff, you’ll love the view from this home!
Call of the Bluff is an old farmhouse from the early 1900’s but has been recently completely renovated and remodeled. The furnishings are newer with that cozy farmhouse feel and you’ll find touches of “local history” all through the house. Learn a bit about Hammondsport through antique postcards dating back to 1904 framed in the dining room, along with black and white photographs of Glenn Curtiss, the Hammondsport native who was an American aviation and motorcycling pioneer!
If you’re visiting the area for the incredible Finger-lakes wineries, you’ll love the original watercolor artwork in the kitchen of some local vineyards.
Walking in from the main entry, you'll come into the fully furnished kitchen. The kitchen has an eat-in bar area as well as a coffee bar. The large windows in front of the sink face toward the lake, making dishes a pleasure rather than a chore! There is a set of sliding patio doors from the kitchen out onto the deck and the grill is set up close to these doors...just a few steps from the kitchen prep area.
Just off of the kitchen, between the kitchen and the Dining room, is the first floor full bath. This bathroom has towels racks, mirrors, and a vanity handcrafted from wine barrels and has a tub/shower.
From the kitchen, you'll walk into the Dining Room which has a large farmhouse table. Between the Dining Room and the Living room, there is a large open window, which allows the Living Room to feel open to the rest of the house. At the opening between the Dining Room and Living Room, there is a bar with bar stools for additional eating area and also a great spot to pull up a bar stool and enjoy a drink while watching a game on the smart TV in the Living Room.
The Living Room has couches and an entertainment center made out of barn wood, with a large TV. There is a set of patio doors in the Living Room that go out onto the back deck, making entertainment a smooth transition from indoors to the outdoors.
The second story steps are in the corner of the Living Room and go up into a hallway. Bedroom 1 is straight ahead and is large with 2 twins and plenty of floor room.
Follow the hallway to the right and Bedroom 2 is on the left and has a queen bed.
Following the hallway around to the right and you'll enter the Master bedroom. The Master bedroom is very large with a closet, a King bed, patio doors out onto a large balcony complete with rockers. The upstairs full bath can be accessed by a door from the Master bedroom but also has a doorway to the hallway which allows it to be used as a Master bathroom or to be used as a shared bathroom for the other bedrooms. The balcony has a superb view of the lake valley below and you can see the whole way up the lake to the point of the Bluff. We highly recommend bringing out your morning coffee or afternoon wine to enjoy the view from up top!
The house has a large covered deck on the back, facing towards the views of the lake. There is a grill for cooking up some delicious burgers, an outdoor dining set, a couple of chairs for enjoying a glass of wine and a hammock to lounge in with your favorite book. The yard is huge with room for a game of flag football or tag. A great place to let the kids run! There is a fire-pit close to the deck for you to roast your s’mores during the long summer evenings.
We do allow for one pet dog at this home....one well mannered, house trained dog under 50#. We are not able to allow for other pets such as cats, birds, etc and only one dog per guest stay (no exceptions).
Call of the Bluff is located right along a main county road and is easily accessible with only 5 minutes to Hammondsport and 15 minutes to Watkins Glen. The house sits in a rural area and you'll love to watch the wildlife and the deer or the small foxes that roam in the meadow below the house. With such a gorgeous view and close proximity to the lake and town, you're going to love staying at Call of the Bluff!

Magnificent views, awesome decks, clean, well stocked and spacious. Better than the photos. Ruth was a gracious and thoughtful host. She made us feel very welcome with the extra chairs, pre-prepped fire and birthday treat! Exceeding all expectations. Thank you!

Call of the Bluff sits high above Keuka Lake with incredible views far up the lake and of the rolling hills and scenery across from it. The deck on the ground level was an big feature. It is very spacious and the deck off the master bedroom also accorded amazing views as well. Large windows and patio doors opens the house up to the natural setting as well as the views. The house was spacious, very clean and very well equipped. We have no negative comments about this property.

Very clean. Everything you could think you would need was there. Would stay here again!

The beautiful view was the icing on the cake for us. Home was very comfortable and clean, just as described. Peaceful surroundings and location was very convenient for us.

This house is very clean, well stocked, and well maintained. It could easily accommodate 6 people. The weather was cold, rainy, and windy during our stay, so we couldn’t enjoy the outdoor space. But the decks, yard, fire pit, etc all looked really inviting. Highly recommend!

The house was beautiful- the grounds spectacular- the upstairs was a little odd with steps going into rooms and bathrooms-would have liked to have blinds on the window in the master bedroom-other than that it was a really really nice home and we enjoyed our stay

Outstanding view and close to Hammondsport. Great check in process. Beds a bit soft for us, but great deck off master bedroom.

Loved the house. Yes it is over a century old but improvements made you not even notice it. The view was amazing. The communication was great and so were the amenities. We loved our stay!

Terrific spot with great views, in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Great mornings with coffee on the deck, evenings by the fire pit. Very comfortable and spacious for four; everything was clean, lots of glasses, plates, pots, etc. Sorry to leave!

This was a spacious and beautiful home! Perfect for relaxing, enjoying the beautiful view and fall colours. Very close to town but far enough for a more secluded feel. We were there for the Wineglass marathon and it was perfect!

When booking this property Air Conditioning is listed as an amenity and when we arrived on a warm day, there was no AC. We reached out to the property manager only to be told that they were taken out of the windows in mid September. It was 76°+ in the house. Not only were there no AC units in any windows, the screens had not been replaced in the windows so we could only open so many. The house is located right next to the road so with the windows open you hear every single car that drives by very loudly.
Prior to opening any windows there were plenty of bugs inside as well.
Screen doors constantly come off track.
Dishwasher did not work, property manager sent someone to fix it and was unable to. We were appropriately refunded for this inconvenience.
The pots and baking sheets were not properly cleaned and needed to be hand washed prior to use. There was a used mug with coffee left in it when we arrived as well.

Pros: comfy beds, great view. Plenty of room.
Cons: no curtains in master bedroom, towel rack fell off wall, microwave didn’t work, no a/c in third bedroom or bureau for clothing, not enough mugs in kitchen or silverware, hole in screen door so bugs were inside.

What a perfect get away! This home was really comfortable, both sleeping and relaxing, and we could not have asked for better views. Just amazing.
Home is in a perfect location for us to explore this Lake and other areas surrounding. Extremely happy with the home, the owners and management, and this vacation was perfect, with many memories and experiences.

Loved the stay at the quaint vacation home. The views of the lake are to die for. We spent the afternoons truly enjoying the sunsets. The location was also pretty close to nearby town, winery, and Watkins Glen State Park. The place came with all basic amenities, and found the home very clean with clean sheets.
However, I would suggest some constructive criticism. The beds were not very comfortable as the mattresses need replacing. Also would prefer to have a peeler and maybe a blender in the kitchen rather than 4 can openers. The fire pit also needs to be cleaned out. These are small issues, but doesn’t take away from the lovely stay.

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Call of the Bluff. The view was spectacular- just as good as the view at the wineries- which was nice since we had small children at tow and spent a lot of time at the house. We've stayed in the Fingerlakes region at various rental properties and this was the cleanest property by far which we very much appreciated. The hosts were responsive and went above and beyond to make sure that we had an amazing stay.

House was very roomy and comfortably accommodated meals, sleeping & overall relaxing after a hard day of wine tasting. Location within modes driving distances for day trips to each of Keuka, Seneca & Cayuga lakes. Close to town for grocery stores & restaurants. Local high school provided a great walking track. House would work well for 2-3 couples or adults plus some kids.
