スタッフがとても優しかったです!
強いて言えばバス停から少し距離があった。大きな荷物を持っている人には少し不便に感じるかも。それでも、歩けない距離ではない。

This is my second time staying at R Star. I love the location being away from the busy city but close enough to walk there within 10 mins. The facilities are great and I always feel like I’m in a hotel over a hostel. Big kitchen to cook independently, or bring food in and socialise with other guests. Free tea and coffee 24/7 and free basic breakfast in the morning but very appreciated to save ¥ for further activities.
In a private room the bunk bed was a bit creaky. Compared to my first time staying in a dorm as a solo traveller the dorms seemed more up to date.

Very good location, nice personnel, very big locker so I could put my luggage there.

i can't say how clean and well-managed this place was. It can't fit into the words. among all the hostels that I've been through the past 2 years in Europe and Asia, this one was a Gem shinning among all the others. The only place that I felt like home but shared with others.

Location is quite comfortable, very close to Gion district, also different subway stations quite close.
The room is normal for such pod system. You get a big locker as well. There is a spacious lounge area, also for breakfast. Fridge is available to store food, tea/ coffee for free. Showers are comfortable. Free shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Also you can borrow an umbrella. Towels are free and changed every day.
The luggage can be stored if you come earlier. There is a small laundry on the ground floor.
The pods are not so comfortable. There are no shelves inside to put your staff. The walls between pods are not solid, there are gaps in between. So when the neighbour turns on the light at night, it is as bright as if it was lit in your pod.

AC in the room was rather loud even though it was in the lowest setting

Value for money
Friendly and helpful staff
Breakfast & free tea and coffee (I usually take only bread for brekkie, so I was fine with the breakfast provided)
Cleanliness
Distance from the Kyoto station- it’s about 20mins walk away from the Kyoto station which could be quite inconvenient if you’re having big luggages

Very nice staff, open kitchen area for people to meet, all clean
Second worst Wifi in over a 100 hostels i have visited all over the world. Make sure you have your own internet, otherwise you can take a shower in the meanwhile when opening google.

Was a lot quieter than I expected. For a hostel as well, the facilities were impeccable. There was a bath. And when I turned up, no one else was in the room, so I had lots of privacy. The beds themselves were also very comfortable and bigger than a normal hostel bed. Not a single, more like a single+.

Dormitory for 6 but a real intimacy thanks to the boxes in which we are. Clean and near Kyoto main station 20 min by foot 10 in transportation.
A really comfortable bedding.
Sheets and towels provided.
The must : you can easily leave your luggage before check-in and after check-out.
Maybe a breakfast not really diversified. Diverse type of breads and marmelade that's all.
A light sound proofing but people are quiet and there it is not really noisy.

Loved the shared space with kitchen area - very clean and well kept and comfy.
The bed was wonderfully soft with a large duvet and a proper western style pillow (heaven!).
Showers and bathrooms were both clean and well maintained - no obvious marks, wear or tear etc.
There was ice water and clean glasses available, and a copy of the dominoes menu with the hostel address handily added!
Did not interact too much with the staff, but they were efficient and could communicate clearly. Helpful instructions were provided in English as well for reading later if needed.
Location was very easy to reach from the station (just one stop on the underground and a short walk). Easy access to public transport to get around the rest of the city.
The top bunk beds have nothing above them to block out the lights on the ceiling or of other guest lamps in the shared rooms. This was very frustrating whenever anyone else was moving around in the late evening/early morning and had the lights on.
I think it would be also worth exploring a policy around having quiet alarms, as I was woken at 6am by another guest (very) loud alarm, which they then set to snooze! Not how I wanted to start my morning (though I recognise it isn’t something the hostel can really do much around).

It is a completely clean hostel, with very friendly staff, it is very easy to access any point of the city because it is located in the center of the city.
