About this house rental
Hamilton House is situated in the heart of this coastal village and a half mile's level walk to the wide pebble beach and sea. The house is situated down a private no through road at the end of which starts the footpath to the beach. The footpath itself is a delightful walk through the fields and alongside a stream before reaching the extensive pebble beach with rock pools, car park, delightful tearoom and a shop.
Hamilton House is an ideal holiday venue for couples as well as families with small children. It is a fully furnished and equipped house which is an ideal “home away from home”. It has a sitting area both on the ground floor as well as a spacious living room upstairs on the first floor enabling guests to spread out and enjoy the house at their leisure. It has been our second home for many years and we hope you will enjoy it’s charm and character as much as we have over the years!
Our housekeeper lives close by and is always available to answer any questions or offer any assistance.
The village is lovely and welcoming and the walk to the beach through the fields is the perfect way to start the day!
Activities nearby:
In terms of activities, there is so much to do in Devon (especially with young kids)! We would definitely suggest Escot ( Great day out and lots to do. Feeding of otters, bird of pray, maze, etc. Super fun for all and lovely little cafe. Only 30 minutes from Hamilton House.
For a bit of adrenaline, there a is great Lasertag venue just outside Exeter which is located within a now abandoned genuine nuclear war bunker (
A bit further afield, there is Powderham Castle ( which is a bit more sedate and has something for everyone.
Becky Falls In Dartmoor ( Lovely nature walks and small animal zoo and animal shows.
Otherwise there is also the Donkey Sanctuary (at the top of Branscombe village) lots of lovely walks, great cafe and free admission.
Many more recommendations but you only have a few days so will not be able experience everything.
Eating out:
In terms of food, lovely pub right in the centre of the village (Masons Arms) - this is literally 50 meters from the house.
The Sea Shanty at the beach also serves lovely breakfast from 9.00am every morning and is open all day with a wide selection of food (their crab sandwiches are fantastic)!
The other pub in the village (the Fountain Head) is also within walking distance (but uphill and a longer walk). The National Trust Bakery does lovely afternoon tea and is in an orchard so well worth popping in for some cakes and coffee/tea. Again, a 5-10minute walk away from the house.
The neighbouring village of Beer is also worth visiting. Lovely atmosphere and nice pub with garden overlooking the sea (The Anchor Inn).
Another more upscale option is The Pig at Combe ( Lovely food in a beautiful Elizabeth setting.
In terms of our beach, it’s absolutely lovely. We have a couple of deck chairs and some beach mats and beach umbrella. We also have some toys for kids. In general, BBQs are not allowed on the grass (as it belongs to the Sea Shanty) but we have seen many people have small BBQs in the pebble beach itself.

We really enjoyed our stay in Branscombe. The cottage is very spacious and ideally located with a short walk to the beach. Branscombe is also in a very good location to visit neighbouring towns - Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Exmouth and much more.
We didn’t contact the provider once we arrived as we didn’t need too.
Thanks for having us.

Spacious, well equipped, comfortable in a beautiful setting with short walk to beach and near to village centre.
Some updating needed and parking for more than 1 car can be challenging! Host very friendly and helpful. One child was 2 yrs old which did not fit your categories.

If you are looking for the Devon Idyll - look no further.
Hamilton House is well stocked, clean and nicely decorated with great family space and lovely gardens. Lots of beds for children etc is great for large family groups, grandparents etc.
Mark and Adriana have the place very well set up and we’re very responsive re any queries / issues we had - not that there were many.
Branscombe is lovely and the pub around the corner is excellent, there is a lovely ten minute walk to the beach, with a great cafe for ice creams and fish and chips. Go the other way down the path and there is a good childrens play area and lovely spot for cream tea.
Lovely house, great beach and a brilliant, peaceful village. If you are looking for a quite Devon retreat - look no further.

Lovely well-equipped house for a family holiday.
Really comfortable house with everything we needed for our stay. Beds and bed linen really good quality. Communication with the owner really good leading up to our holiday. Parking in the designated space was a bit tricky but we got used to it! Would definitely recommend the house for group stays.
