About this cottage rental
This charming and private casita is perfect for one - three guests. It's a short walk (three blocks to the downtown Plaza) with on site parking. It has been totally remodeled and renovated by me with new windows, bath and kitchen complete re do.
Casa Azul is furnished in my always popular "Melissiana Style" which is antiques, Consignment Store and Estate Sale treasure, all original Taos art and of course my sense of whimsy throughout!
You enter down a flagstone pathway to your cozy little house. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need. I always say that if I don't have it, you won't need it! Refrigerator and gas stove with oven. Great random tile counters and I do have so much fun re purposing kitchen cabinets...
The living room has a loveseat sofa sleeper with a gel foam mattress for one with all bedding, coffee table and entertainment cabinet. I put in a corner gas log stove for heat and wonderful ambiance. Just like a wood burning stove, but no logs or ashes to deal with.
There is an equipale (Mexican style) table and two chairs. Bright, fun and festive dishes with nice big coffee mugs.
The bathroom is totally re done with random tiles and all amenities.
The bedroom has a tongue and groove wood floor that I "played" with after a staining mishap. (Don't believe you can stain and seal with one product and don't stain boards outside on a hot/sunny day!) Queen bed, good reading lights of course. There is a closet complete with cozy robes and a dresser.
There is a totally private rear landscaped walled back courtyard garden with table/chairs and a BBQ. The patio is flagstone with a large shade structure. As with all my properties Casa Azul is dog friendly I provide dog sheets for furniture and bed as well as mutt mitts for clean up. Dog fee is $10 per dog per night which may be left upon departure.
This casita is part of a compound with a main house (Casa Grande VRBO 860840) with three bedrooms/two baths and another Casita (Casa Verde Vrbo 920144) one bedroom available. All can be rented separately or can sleep a group of 2. Each space has a private entry and private wall garden courtyard. The only space that is shared is the full laundry room which is available for all guests. All have off street parking.
This entire downtown compound was featured on the 2017 Taos Home & Garden Tour. On a Saturday in August I got to show off my style to 500 tour goers!
If Casa Azul is booked for your dates please look at Casa Verde Vrbo 920144 which is very similar and in the same compound.

Really cute little "bungalow" in Taos. Perfect size for a couple. Looks like about 3 of these "bungalows" on the same property, but all separate. Very nicely decorated. Very clean. We did not cook in the kitchen, but it was nicely laid out, included everything you would need. Bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The host (Melissa) had all the details in our hands prior to arrival - no issues there at all. A few details though - there is no AC (central or window). It was not specifically listed as included or not included in the listing. Might not be a big deal during most of the year in Taos, but the 3 days that we were there were really hot. The ceiling fans helped a little, but it never got below 80F in the house during our stay, even at night. There is not much seating in the living room - only one small loveseat, and two kitchen table chairs. Even for just a couple, we were basically sitting on top of each other in the evening. The location was great to get to the Taos Plaza area. Just a couple of minute drive. Not really walkable though - particularly at night (no sidewalks on the road, no streetlights). But also a good location to get to around to everything in Taos and the surrounding areas. Would definitely stay here again (although maybe not at the height of summer)!

The average daytime temperature in Taos this time of year is 78. It was unseasonably hot (high 90s low 90s. Obviously beyond the host’s control. The casita has no air conditioning. The unit was HOT. With the climate getting hotter the host may want to consider a mini split system for the unit.
Fortunately, the overnight night temperature cooled the unit down. By morning I was drinking my coffee on the cool patio. I heard the local church bells ring and my pup freely explored the secure backyard. The location is very private. It was a lovely experience.
Fortunately the summer storm breezes kept the unit temperature better. Still warm, but bearable.
Overall, it was a nice place to stay. It is right smack close to where you want to be in Taos. In previous reviews I saw different opinions on the bed comfort. I slept like a rock.
I would stay here again, during cooler weather, or in the summer with an added air conditioner.

Really enjoyed Casa Azul. I brought my small
dog. The fenced private yard was perfect for us both. Dog sheets for the bed and couch were provided. The Plaza was within easy walking distance.

Overall, we were pleased with the excellent location, cozy feel of the cottage, and enclosed backyard for the dog which was very convenient. A few issues to consider are that there is no A/C and although it does cool off at night, the first night we were there it wasn't easy to sleep. The following two days it rained so that kept the cottage cool. There are ceiling fans. Bed pillows are flat and there were only three we could find, but luckily, we brought our pillows. Melissa kept us up to date when there was a water line break and she had it repaired that day, but after that, I had trouble getting an answer when I texted her my questions about checking out. I loved her artwork and the tin birds.

We have never been to Taos, so it was nice to stay close to the "city" center. Easy walk from house to local art and restaurants. This would be a great location for 2 to 3 families to stay, offering everyone privacy, but a common place to meet all together.

This cute little house was very close to downtown Taos. We went as a group my daughter rented the large house my son-in-law‘s mom rented the other house, so the three of us stayed on the same property. This accommodation is great for people that have dogs awesome awesome hostess. A+++++

We enjoyed being able to keep the doors and windows open at night and enjoy the night sounds and fresh air. The refrigerator did freeze some of our food, adjustment needed. Overall enjoyed our stay.

Enjoyed every moment, especially the fresh air coming through the screen doors and windows. Manager was VERY responsive to needs. Only suggestion is it is time to replace the worn mattress for better sleep for guests. Loved the quiet peace so close to Plaza, and beautiful view of Taos Mountain. Thank you! Wanda

This property was great! Close enough to Taos Plaza (currently under construction work---May 2023) to walk with our pup. The church bells in the morning (starting about 7:00 am) were soothing to wake us up.
The walled-in yard was good for our pup.
Only concern was the shower floor was very slippery! Couldn't find a shower mat, so we avoided showers after the first try.
We will return when we can!

Perfect for our trip. Could use one more comfy chair in living room -little couch not quite big enough for two to relax comfortably.

A curved, private entrance, well-equipped kitchen, options for comfortable temperature, walled-in, private courtyard, never-ending art, secure entrance with additional key provided -- I loved staying here and so did my dog! We enjoyed walking in the neighborhood and to the Plaza. I appreciated being able to do a load of laundry - that was an unexpected bonus. I am a solo traveler, but would recommend Casa Azul for a couple + one or two Littles.

Lots of light from windows and skylights and a lovely walled yard for our dogs, this casita was just right for us. It’s also a short walk to the center of Taos and three minutes from a great park for dog walking. There was plenty of room for two adults and two medium-sized dogs, a comfortable bed, and a roomy kitchen.

The rental property itself is very cute and in a wonderful location mere minutes from the town square, shopping, food by foot. The baseboard heaters in the bedroom and bathroom were really all we needed to keep the whole place warm since it is so nice and open. We LOVED the private yard for our dogs and the provided dog sheets to put on the couch and bed so our senior pups could be comfortable just like at home. However, the property definitely needed a deep cleaning; food crusted to oven knobs, cobwebs on artwork, dead mosquito stuck to wall in bathroom, light switches with smudges on them, etc. The bathroom and kitchen had definitely been wiped down before our stay, but the floors were quite dirty and I had to pick a few hairs off of the pillowcases in the bedroom that definitely did not belong to us or our dogs since we had just arrived. Trying to get access to the house was the hardest. We had not received instructions 24 hours prior, so I messaged Melissa on VRBO app. She emailed me at 4:50 a.m. the day of our arrival with a line that said "Tree house and airstream summer lodging. Melissa " That was it...so I emailed back and asked how we accessed the property. A few hours passed, we tried calling, no answer, called VRBO customer service, they called, no answer. We kept trying and my husband got her on the phone, providing my name, email address, etc. for our stay. She messaged in email and VRBO she would send access, but another 2-3 hours pass, we're arriving into town in 2 hours, and nothing arrived in my email or my VRBO messages or spam. I called and was able to get the access instructions over the phone from her but not before she blamed my husband for, and I quote, "mucking things up." Not sure how he "mucked things up" by providing all my contact details. That did not leave us feeling very confident about booking with this property manager which is shame because the whole compound at that property was absolutely charming and so very convenient to downtown Taos. Be vigilant about getting access instructions 24-48 hours before your stay here and bring some light cleaning supplies, and this is a great spot.

Wonderful location close to shops and restaurants. Decorated very nice. Loved the private yard for the dogs. Unfortunately most of the yard is dirt. Would recommend rocks or mulch would be great to help keep the dogs paws clean. Melissa is always great to work with!
