About this house rental
Book filled, art-filled lake front colorful cottage. Great Wifi! Sit by the fire pit and watch the stars. plenty of firewood! Take a vacation from the world. Lake Champlain- - 20 minutes to Middlebury-- A cute, 2 bedroom sweet, happy cottage. - gas fireplace, slate beach, stunning mountain sunsets, fire pit, A.C. of course - It's a great place to float and boat, or just sit and have a martini on the deck and stare at the mountains...breath-taking star gazing. There are 2 kayaks and a canoe! Great fishing, bass and perch. Right off the shore or in the heavy duty canoe. -Check out the video- that says it all.. pretty simple! full kitchen, everything you need.... spices and olive oil. Private country road which dead ends... so no traffic noise. Just off Vermont Bike touring route. The lake has some weeds, not great swimming, although everybody seems to love floating, boating, fishing-- amazing beautiful drive to Middlebury- galleries, college, bistros- Pickle Ball and Tennis at the Middlebury Recreation Center..- waterfalls, hiking, Revolutionary forts across the bridge in NY State..good starting point for plenty of touring, but this is a place most people don't want to leave. Finish your novel here, or start one. lake breeze keeps the bugs at bay. A fascinating slate beach for beach combing- fossils, arrowheads. Due to the lake being so close to the house any bit of extra care for the septic tank is greatly appreciated... let it mellow if it's yellow? Organic soaps only.
Cozy furniture, good mattresses, good lighting, great deck to grill and sit and eat and watch the mountains and the lake. Designed for romantics, artists, bibliophiles, quiet folk looking for a real escape hatch.
I am a writer and painter and this place is quiet. i mean, quiet, except for the birds. Many guests get some good writing done they tell me. Maybe it's because the lake, so active, so changeable, is right at your door. And of course, it's Vermont. It's funky, artsy, colorful, eclectic. If there is a cobweb in the corner, say hello to the spider. It's a cottage on a lake- with loons, and eagles and foxes and, up the road - some cows!-- The wind blows through the windows, and in ten minutes there might be a bit of dust on the table. It is not a hermetically sealed tomb- you must go to The Marriott for that...
Silent night: Most places, you hear distant traffic, or some kind of man-made noise, a dull vibrating hum, so that although you feel like you are really in the country, you aren't. This is the country. You hear the wind, the crickets, the birds, the squirrels, a fish jumping, and the achingly beautiful train whistle moaning across the lake twice a day. It's amazing to sit on the deck and watch the geese and the sunset and hear yourself breathing. Martini on the deck, reading Thomas Merton or Henry Miller, the lovely viewing of sailboats drifting by and bird watching is spectacular. Two bald eagles nest nearby! quiet fishing at an great inlet across the lake. This part of the lake hasn't many cottages on it, you look North and see only trees for a couple of miles, so you don't feel like other people are breathing down your neck.
There are two neighbors hidden away up the road if you need to borrow a cup of sugar, but you would never know they're there and a cottage up the hill. Apple and berry picking in the late summer and fall. I know where the private swimming holes are up in the mountains if it gets really hot. Also a terrific river falls near Middlebury. -- Once in a while, a GREAT while, very rarely, but I want to mention it- a field mouse gets in the house -You can't keep them out all the time... period. Not in the fields of Vermont. ( I have some tiny electric things in the wall that emit a sound they hate. seems to be working--- )AND three times a year the farmers up the road spread manure on the fields. I can't prevent this either. Bridport, VT is a farm community. You won't be happy here if this bothers you. You WILL be happy here if you love to hike, canoe, bird watch, bike, sit and watch the sunset, play scrabble, read, write, cook, grill, take little day trips to Vermont towns, tour micro-breweries, sleep, have fires on the beach, build slate castles, do art, walk, talk to chipmunks. -- I like to chat a bit with potential guests so that I can answer questions in a more personal way!! I want everyone to be happy. The cottage is decorated like a house, but it's a cottage about 5 feet from the lake. There is no washer dryer, no dish washer, it's lovely but pretty basic at the same time. Can drop off laundry in Middlebury. Use paper plates?

This cottage is the perfect if you want peace and quiet. It was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed the area and did a variety of outings. I love the artistic flair of the owner. Laurel was great in terms of dealing with any questions I had. We will totally return to this adorable cottage with absolutely beautiful sunset views.

This is an adorable cottage. Rustic but adequate. There's a porch overlooking the lake and the sunsets were gorgeous. It's surrounded by beautiful farmland and near the college town of Milford with restaurants and art etc. We did have rain 3 out of the 5 days but even then it was nice especially when the sun blasted through illuminating the greenest grass I've ever seen. There's only (1) Queen bed and (1) twin and the bathroom is small and the shower very small, but we were there for the view and that we got! The host is super friendly and helpful with suggestions etc. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Very pleasant accommodations, and a quiet and scenic location. We plan on coming back but for a longer stay. Many thanks.

We had a super relaxing time at this property. The lake is virtually at the front porch. Beautiful setting. It was just what we needed.

Great location. Best part was the porch over looking the lake and the very friendly wild life around us. We enjoyed swimming and paddling too.

Lovely home that has everything you need , located on a very secluded street . you can feel that this home is loved : has lots of great books and beautiful paintings ( home is owned by the artist ) Very cozy with a lot of character and overlooking Lake Champlain . Beautiful terrace . Local stores sell very good produce from nearby farms its organic and very tasty . great hiking at the Green Mountains for people who like forest ; trails are empty ( but about an hour away by car) Or you can walk around Middlebury that is 25 minutes away. we absolutely enjoyed our stay. The owner is a pleasure to communicate with:) Thank you, Laurel!

What a beautiful little place… if you grew up spending lots of time in the Catskills and Adirondacks like I did, it will feel like home.
The views of the lake and sunset cannot be beat, and the cabin is decorated so lovingly and with such pizazz (Laurel’s artisti talent is clear).
And the BOOKS… so many books to leaf through. I reserved this rental for myself, my husband, and our two dogs with the plan of exploring nearby towns but mostly relaxing and reading (which I never seem to be able to do at home…), and it did not disappoint. I did not go in the lake since VT had recently had a lot of rainfall/flooding, but there were two kayaks ready to go if we needed them. There’s no TV, but the wifi is fast, so you can stream on your laptop or tablet if you really must… but I recommend you sit outside and watch the hummingbirds whiz past while the chipmunks snack on their peanuts only a few feet away.
Laurel is a lovely host— she really wants you to enjoy the house and nearby area, and she is so responsive; I was sorry I did not get to meet her in person. I hope we can return next summer for longer. Being there made me feel like a kid again. A really special place.

Everything about this visit was exactly right. The owner was personable and quick to communicate, the setting was exactly as described and the house was comfortable. Located almost IN the lake, we were well entertained watching eagles, cormorants and terns fishing. My husband discovered HUGE bass just fishing from shore and our water dog was in heaven just paddling along the shore for hours. The local grocery store was adorable and had anything you needed. It is just a short trip to Middlebury for lunch or golf (beautiful course at the college - open to the public) and bucolic scenery all around. What more could you ask for! We will definitely stay here again.

Relaxing Vermont Getaway!!
We loved the location right on the lake with amazing views and sunsets from the spacious deck and Adirondeck chairs in the yard. The home more than met our needs for cooking meals and as a base to explore the greater Middlebury area, which we really enjoyed! Laurel was very easy to communicate with, and made great sight seeing recommendations, along with recommending the Pratt's store for essentials. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip! Thank you, Laurel!!

Lakefront Gem
This is a great place right next to Lake Champlain. Very clean house with everything needed provided. We absolutely enjoyed our sunset dinners on the deck waiting for Champ to appear (wink, wink).
Saw a bald eagle, cormorants, great blue herons and hummingbirds. We loved this place and hopefully can be back one day.

Clean and Serene
We were pleasantly surprised to find this wonderful gem tucked away in the trees with a beautiful view of the lake from nearly every window. Comfortable and very clean it was easy it settle in for our vacation. The full kitchen made meal prep easy and the fireplace kept the whole place cozy when it was cool outside. We love that this place is dog-friendly and our Labrador Retriever accompanied us. The beds were comfortable and it was lovely to be lulled to sleep by the wind gently singing through the tree branches. The best part though is the proximity to the lake. The serenity surrounds you and beacons you to go out for a kayak ride or simply sit on the shore getting lost in a book. This is a true place to decompress and unplug.

Tranquility
The cottage was amazingly peaceful and restorative. Having arrived after dark, to wake up the next morning seemingly touching the lake was breathtaking. As the listing says, cute and eclectic. The 3 of us had a great stay.

Heaven
Now I want to move to Vermont. The beauty of it, and from this place, was breathtaking. Very comfortable cabin, comfortable bed, great shower, kitchen appliances all work well. Great wifi. You aren’t roughing it here tho the place still has authenticity to it. It was really clean, too. Thank you Laurel!

Even better than you can imagine
This is a clean, cozy, cute, unusual, and easy place to stay. Anything you really need should be there or easy to find locally if you didn’t bring it with you. First….the lake…any day and all day a view that is remarkably beautiful. If you want to get on the lake Laurel provided kayaks and a canoes….don’t miss that chance.
Things to know…you must be mobile…car parking is up the slope to house and plan to carry belongings and purchases to door. Not suitable for disabled.
You must be okay with spiders and local wildlife. This is their home too so be good with that or this isn’t for you. For me the chipmunks, red squirrels, and web weaving insects were part of what I loved.
Bring a checkbook. Local farms provide all sorts of goodies, meat, cheese, eggs, produce. Bring cash or check to support local farms.
We thought ahead and brought lanterns to light the deck. If the weather is good expect to want to spend hours out there.
Lastly. On cold mornings the gas fireplace warmed the whole house. Lovely.
You might never want to leave but explore locally. Middlebury, Vergennes , Crowne Pointe…worth the trip.
Overalll…one of my favorite vacation spots. Just go

We enjoyed every minute here - reading playing cards, floating on the lake, watching the birds, and sitting by the fire.

We loved everything about Camp Casey. The location was beautiful and private. Everything we needed was there in the cabin and in its perfect location. Watching the changing weather, light and wild life from the deck was heavenly. Th

We'll be back!
Laurel's little compound on the lake was perfect - exactly what we wanted for a week away from the city. We spent a LOT of time on the porch which overlooks the lake - amazing sunsets, tons of wildlife (eagles!) and very little boat traffic. When not lounging, we used her canoe and my paddle board to explore the area, checked out a couple of great little nearby towns and consumed a lot of maple-syrup-containing products.
The house itself is filled with books and artwork and we found it to be very comfortable. Visiting in July, we never had to turn on the AC, as the evenings are cool and there are lots of fans around. And I have to give a special mention to the kitchen. I love to cook and have never been to a rental that was so well-equipped. Even the knives were sharp. I think this is because it's Laurel's home which she graciously gives up so that others can enjoy her oasis.
We had some minor problems with the wifi (problems stemmed from the provider's end, not the house) but communication with Laurel was super easy, as she was just staying next door.
All is all we can't wait for a return visit.

Tranquil Vermont Getaway
Spent almost a week at this rustic but well appointed cabin overlooking Lake Champlain. We had beautiful clear weather, and as other reviewers noted, the deck provides fantastic views of the lake, mountains in the distance, and very scenic sunsets. We used the kayaks every day, visited Pratts general store for take out breakfast most days (get the donuts on saturday morning !) and made just one trip out to visit Ft Ticonderoga. Overall, this is a very scenic destination and an ideal spot to relax, unwind, do some reading, etc. Had great communications with Laurel, but didn't get to meet her. Maybe next time ! Also wifi worked well, comfortable bed, very interesting books and artwork in the cabin !

Funky, peaceful lakeside refuge
My family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens) spent 4 nights at Laurel’s cozy cottage. It was the perfect escape. Gorgeous sunsets, beautiful lake views, canoeing, kayaking, bonfires...peaceful and exactly as described... it was just what we were looking for. We’ve already talked about a return trip. Thanks for a wonderful getaway, Laurel. Hope we get to meet you the next time!!

Cute, quaint and cozy
This is a traditional, rustic lake cottage and a throwback to a softer time. Most of my time was spent on the large deck overlooking the lake, enjoying the 180 degree view. It's partially covered, so you can sit on it in the rain. The sunsets provide a 2-hour constantly changing canvas of color and shapes. The inside of the cottage is open, light and airy with big windows, comfortable seating and beds. and all kinds of artwork, antiques and books. This is a great place to stay no matter the weather or your mood. It's the perfect tranquil spot if you're looking to unwind or have a romantic getaway. Adding to the enjoyment of your stay is Laurel, the host. She is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet -- very bright, quirky, funny, and kind. She's an artist and former professional singer/performer who has put a lot of artistic touches and time, effort and care into making the cottage and its environment a beautiful and magical respite.

A little piece of paradise.
This little cottage was a little piece of paradise. The exact kind of place we needed for our honeymoon. This place has character, funky art, vintage furniture, and books. This place is secluded and peaceful with magical sunsets.
We had the honor to meet Laurel the owner and have dinner with her. She is very sweet, very real and just a lovely human. We could sit and chat with her for hours. She was of no bother at all. Gave us our space. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. The grill had broke the day before we arrived. She immediately went out and purchased a new one. The lake held a greatness about it. Good fishing right from the shore. A rare visit from a Great Blue Heron. Pictures of a teenage eagle. And sunsets beyond words. All memories that will remain with us. We will definitely return!

Quiet stay on Lake Champlain shore
This is a lovely cottage in a wonderful location. It was a relaxing retreat from real life, and it was close enough to a variety of things to do to keep a girl and her dog busy.

Awesome lake experience
This was our first visit to Lake Champlain and our first time using VRBO. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience.
The cabin was clean, inviting and decorated in a fun and creative way. The view over the lake was exactly what we were looking for and we spent long hours on the deck enjoying quiet mornings and spectacular sunsets.
We were in the lake every day swimming, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. Our dog (a large Bernese Mountain Dog) felt right at home and, while not a big swimmer, paddled around happily in the shallows while we were in the water. A couple of evenings we built a bonfire on the shore and made s'mores - a big favorite with the kids.
We spent a lot of time reading, drawing, and playing cards and board games. We visited the nearby store (15 mins drive) a few times for supplies and drove to Middlebury (30 mins) for takeout, coffee, and browsing the excellent, dog-friendly bookstore (a big surprise!).
We did two side trips - one to Fort Ticonderoga (excellent) and another to Six Flags (for the kids) and Lake George (for the dog).
Laurel was an excellent host: welcoming, helpful, but not at all intrusive.
We thoroughly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a real lakeside getaway.

A great place for a quiet week
My wife and I spent a half-work, half-vacation week in the cottage, and it met all of our needs. WiFi was great for web conferences, and AT&T and Verizon cell service strong. The lake view is fantastic. Laurel is a great hostess. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet lakeside camp.

We loved this place! off the beaten path and exactly what we were looking for!
We were thrilled to see this listing...it fit the bill for all our expectations! The comfy cabin is full of personality, art!!!, books and antiques...our kind of place! It was truly a joy to walk in and be "home" from wandering around the most beautiful state! We packed in so much sight-seeing from this home-base! We were close to the bridge to NY we enjoyed exploring there as well! We went on 2 different ferries! Everything we needed was in place, including lovely fresh cut lilacs, and a gas fireplace! We knew it had been cool and rainy but it is such a fun and cute place, we would have been happy staying in all day! We ended up with some great weather and loved seeing the lake and sky change daily. The spacious covered deck overlooks the lake- grab some cards, a book, and a snack and just enjoy! I loved that even from inside the window views are wonderful! There is a great WIFI connection, the kitchen is large and well equipped with everything we needed and more. We loved the art, colors, and vibe! Laurel is upbeat, fun, and kind. We are so glad we were able to have the time (40th anniversary trip!) at Casey's Cabin! Thanks for sharing your special place with us! It would be fun to come back when the lake is lower and enjoy the beach and boats! What a special place!

Fantastic cabin with a ton of personality
This was such a cool little cabin in which to get away and unplug from the busyness of life. Three adults (and one dog) stayed here comfortably over New Year's Eve. The character of the cabin is true to its description, being filled with an eclectic and colourful mix of personalized hand-crafted momentos, art and antiques that complement the heritage of the region. It truly has a cabin feel - curling up next to the gas stove with a book on a cold and damp evening after the drive here just hit the spot. The kitchen is well stocked, and the there's plenty of outdoor and indoor activities with Burlington and the Green mountains being so close. Laurel's hand-written reminders scattered throughout the cabin are so fun and thoughtful and reflect her attention to detail and care for the place.

Million-dollar views - priceless charm!
Laurel's charming cottage on the lake is everything you could ask for in a getaway: stunning views, cozy book-filled rooms, and all the comforts of home. The house is just steps from the lake, with its own private slate beach – and tons of character and charm. We can't wait to come back!

Beautiful Views outside. My standard may not be others.
VRBO
Laura was attentive to my call to see how to get to the cottage.
This is a great location. Approximately 1.5 hours to Stowe, to the Vermont Country store, to Burlington, to Lake Placid, to Montpelier. So we were able to take in a lot of sight seeing and beautiful drives. It was nice having a place to come to. Quit, beautiful scenery on lake Champlain.
Walking into the place for the first time it was musty, the blinds, fans and light fixtures have 1/8-1/4 inch dust, dirt on them. Picture frames had cob webs on them. The bed spread had blood on it. Other bedding was wadded up in the closet as if someone used it.
I was asked to give a chance for her to make it right if I were not happy happy. Which I did. Numbers to the cleaner was provided but not my responsibility to put energy in this, I have a home of my own to maintain. My standard not theirs so live in the moment with it.
I look at VRBO because I want a clean, quiet place to stay, that is off of the beaten path.
I got the quiet and off the beaten path. On a standard hotel rating I would say this stay was comparable to a 2 star hotel rating. I was expecting a cottage that was a 4-5 star comparable rating.
The Windows sold me on the property and the cute stove/grill by the lake. However when there the windows were filthy with fly specs, smudges, splashes of water from the sink. The screens in them needed vacuumed the window ledges had webs in the corners and dirt. I took pictures. The stone grill that attracted me to the property was in need of repair.
The field mouse mentioned in other reviews did visit us our first night and throughout the trip leaving tracing of him on the counter top.
On the instructions it was said leave the place nice for the next guest because not able to get people to come and clean on a scheduled bases due to inconsistency in renting the place out.
Also concerning for the stay was the "gray water" goes into the lake is what I remember reading. This is the sink water and bath water. This kept us limiting our showers. The "if it turns yellow let in mellow" in the bathroom was also concerning. My mother interpreted this as limit the showers and the flushing of the stool. Not that the water tank gets churned when using too much water, If it turns yellow let the water tank refill and settle. This did not happen but we bought bottled water for coffee and drinking.

Eclectic, funky, secluded, and exactly what we were looking for!
This place definitely has some character, and we loved it! It was fairly rustic but had everything you need to feel comfortable. The views were great, and it was really nice to have easy access to the water. We didn't miss not having a TV because there was enough to see at this property (again with the VIEWS) and 10-15 min away in town. We would definitely stay here again.
