About this chalet rental
Okemo got 15 inches of snow on Thanksgiving, and Lake Rescue Chalet still has discount early season weekends available!
Lake Rescue Chalet is a large, cozy vacation rental chalet steps from Lake Rescue in southern Vermont, just minutes from Okemo and Killington ski resorts. The house can be reached by driving 4 hours from NYC or 3 hours from Boston.
This cozy chalet is the kind of country cabin that a family or friends can retreat to year after year. The spoons don't match, the blankets are cozy, the view of the lake through the trees is stunning.
It has a new, big outdoor hot tub to sink into after a hard day skiing nearby Okemo or Killington. With 6 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, and 2 living/dining areas w/gas fireplaces, there’s plenty of room for up to 12, plus a pack-n-play with sheets. The private dock on Lake Rescue, a short walk up the road, has 3 kayaks and a canoe available for your use in summer.
The house is just 4 miles from Okemo’s Jackson Gore area and 12 miles from Killington’s Skyeship. Other nearby ski mountains include Pico, Magic Mountain and Stratton.
Lake Rescue Chalet sleeps 12 people on two levels, each featuring full open-floor-plan living areas – including a kitchen/living/dining room – and three bedrooms apiece! Upstairs and down are connected by a custom-crafted wood-and-wrought-iron spiral staircase (with a child-safety gate at the top), and each level has its own bathroom, gas fireplace and large-screen smart TV. It's a terrific home for families and friends who want to spend time together but also cherish their privacy. They relax in the hot tub, barbecue on the huge front deck, watch the great blue herons that live just over the ridge, play volleyball in the yard, roast marshmallows over the fire pit or just nap in a hammock in the woods.
The only thing that beats taking a canoe out on a misty summer morning is screaming down a ski slope after a fresh snowfall.
Four-Season Fun
WINTER: The snow is thick and the winters are cold -- perfect for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, snowmobiling or just building a snowman. There are nine ski areas within 40 miles.
SPRING: Flowers burst into a jumble of audacious color in May, and its reputation as Mud Season because means bargain prices.
SUMMER: Enjoy the Black River and 200-acre Lake Rescue, where we have a private dock with five boats – a canoe and three kayaks – a two-minute walk from the front door. There is boating, fishing, swimming, birdwatching (we have loons, eagles and ospreys), and just lounging on the dock in Adirondack chairs. Several golf courses are nearby, as well as hiking trails, bike riding, historic sites, scenic New England towns to explore, shopping and more.
FALL: Fall foliage season in Vermont means Appalachian trail hiking, shopping, and breathtaking leaf-peeping drives on scenic Vermont 100.

I recently rented a weekend stay here at the Chalet for a ski trip with friends, and overall, it was a decent experience. One of the highlights was the location, conveniently situated by the mountain and easy to navigate to and from. However, there were several drawbacks to note. Firstly, the bathrooms were disappointingly tiny, with only two available for the entire six-bedroom property, which caused some inconvenience. Additionally, the hot tub was a letdown as it was only lukewarm at best, and maintaining even that temperature required keeping the jets off, which defeated the purpose of having a hot tub. The owner did refund us $50 for the inconvenience. Moreover, there were numerous rules to follow that seemed excessive compared to standard rental expectations. Although a cleaning fee was already included, checking out required lots of instructions on cleaning up (not to be confused with tidying up). While it wasn't a terrible stay, it wasn't as relaxing due to all the rules.

Great location for skiing at Okemo! Very clean house with everything we needed. Host very responsive when we had an issue with the hot tub. Would stay here again

Loved the home and location. Having two living spaces was great for our group. Hot tub was hot and works flawlessly. Thank you!

The property was amazing, felt very private even with neighbors fairly close by. It was perfect for our group, close to Okemo Mountain for skiing l, and had enough space to entertain everyone after a full day. Each floor was its own little apartment so would be great for multiple families. It was clean, cozy, and the hot tub was an essential part of a post-skiing day. Would definitely stay here again!

We were 3 families with 2 kids each, ranging from 5-11. House worked out great! There is a narrow spiral staircases to upstairs, just be careful with little kids. But, you can go up/down via outside stairs.
Hot tub was great, very close to Okemo on flat roads. Also, there were 2 kitchens, so it basically is like 2 separate living spaces each with a bathroom, tv room, dining, kitchen and bathroom. Thanks!!

This house was a great homey, comfortable chalet in Ludlow,VT! Right next to a lake 3 miles from Okemo Mtn
It was a great set up for any family/friend vacation. Two kitchens were a bonus! We spent a lot off time in the hot tub after a long day on the slopes. Great area and very convenient to get to the stores. The owners had all the information you need about the house and area posted readily available and if you had to contact them they got right back to you with no problem. I hope we will be able to stay here in the summer the lake is beautiful and looks like there’s a lot of fun to be had.!!!! I highly recommend this place Donna

Killington Trip
We stayed for four nights so we could ski and ride at Killington. The location was great, close enough to the mountain but far enough to feel like you were away from the crowds. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a place to stay near Killington.

Great location, some missing features
We were a group of 11 that rented the house. It was a great location and very spacious house. The fireplace and upstairs shower weren’t working but the owner was very responsive and gave us a discount for the inconvenience. The kitchens were well stocked and we got a lot of use of the hot tub. Overall a good stay.

A wonderful place for family and friends!
The Lake House Chalet was spotlessly clean upon our arrival and we were pleasantly surprised at the cozy yet roomy feel of the house. It was a great place to ring in the New Year with friends and family, and it was a wonderful home-away-from-home to come back to after skiing all day! Lisa was really helpful and we would definitely come back!!!

Clean with plenty of space.
Our party of 8 had a wonderful time at this spacious lake house! We enjoyed kayaking and canoeing around the lake (both round pond side and the larger lake side). The kids loved fishing too. We had campfires each night and plenty of wood was provided. We also enjoyed the hot tub! Having 2 kitchens was nice. Lisa provided us with plenty of information and clear instructions about the property and surrounding area. We had a lovely hike at Buttermilk Falls just a few miles away. We really had a wonderful time and would definately come back again! Thank you!

Wonderful house
Spent 3 weeks at the lake house. It’s checked all the boxes for us - close to mountain, close to lake (ice fishing), sleigh riding next to house, decent kitchens to cook, etc. We would definitely stay here again.

Christmas Ski Trip
We were three families, 6 adults, 6 kids and had a great time! House was perfect from a bedroom accommodation perspective and having two full kitchens allowed the older girls to bake cookies while the adults prepared dinner at the same time!
The gas fireplaces made it cozy and convenient to have a warm fire each night while playing some of the many games available in the house.
We had one issue with the upstairs stove and a light out that the super friendly and very responsive property manager Keith fixed in short order. Thanks Keith!
Overall a wonderful holiday ski week! We hope to return next year!

Lake Rescue Chalet
Don:
Bad stuff:
The noisy dehumidifier took two days of constant running to make the the musty moldy downstairs acceptable.
Putrid smell from outside frequently lofted into the bedrooms and onto the porch; suspect it was sewerage.
There were no sheets and pillow cases for the sofa beds.
Lake access was unmarked and very difficult to find.
Lake access was not swim-able; there was too much muck and it was too shallow.
Good stuff:
Wi-fi and Internet was great.
Two kitchens with two refrigerators came in handy for our large group.
Main room high ceilings looked great.
Plenty of towels.
Lake was beautiful, great for kayaking and swimming (away from the lake access).
Kevin:
The bed in our room was very uncomfortable (upstairs room on left)
The pots and pans were tough to cook with
The sliding screen doors didn’t slide very well
The musty smell downstairs
The deck railings were wobbly
Brian:
Love the house!
No swimming was an issue
Lisa:
The beds were uncomfortable.
Only one set of pots and pans for two kitchens. The pots were all nonstick with the coating scratched on all of them. Not really usable.
The blender does not work.
There should be fans for all the rooms since there is not much ventilation in the house and it gets hot. Fans available were very dirty.
The downstairs was very smelly with mildew and mold when we arrived. It took a couple of days using the dehumidifier in the living room to remove the smell. We were not able to use the downstairs living room because of the smell.
There were no sheets for the pull out sofa beds.
The sewer smell was very noticeable on the left side of the house and the smell came in the windows and when you were on the deck. It was disgusting.
The sliding door to the deck in the front of the house is broken, hard to open and close, broken screen and fell off many times.
The living room couches are uncomfortable.
The beach is not swimmable.
The kayaks are missing one set of paddles.
We enjoyed using the kayaks on the lake. The lake was nice and quiet.
It was nice to to have two large tables inside and one large table on the deck. There were also a good number of chairs for the deck.
The wifi was great. and it was nice to have so many options for TV viewing.
The sheets and towels were clean and comfortable.
The house was clean when we arrived.
The decks were large and comfortable to hang out.
Paul: I'm the father that rented the house for my children.

Amazing location for Endurance Athletes & Vacationers
We rented the Lake House Chalet as a homebase for our week long stay filled with swim, bike, run, and relaxation plans. The house met all of our large groups needs from plenty of sleeping space, 2 kitchens, 2 baths, easy lake access, challenging terrain for all of outdoor activities. WiFi access was great due to limited cell services. If looking to swim out of the house’s dock be prepared for a shallow & murky entry but the neighbors were very friendly allowing us to launch from their dock. Buttermilk Falls and the Maple Creemee stand we’re an added bonus within a very short drive from the house. If there has to be one down side to the house the mattresses were very thin. Overall the location is great and would recommend this to a large group looking for a place to stay through all seasons.

Great time.
The house was very clean and just what we expected. Unfortunately the grounds were lacking. We had to remove leaves and branches from the stairs in order to get up onto the deck. The firepit was not usable. It didnt look like any grounds work had been done to the yard or the lakefront. There was garbage left in a trash can on the deck from the previous guests. I am guessing that spring clean up had not begun. Other than that we enjoyed the House and the hot tub.

Warm, Inviting Cabin with Lots of Space!
Hello,
A group of 9 of us stayed in February 2019 to ski Okemo for a long weekend. The cabin has a lot of space! The bedrooms are well-sized and the eating and living-room areas are spacious and comfortable. The TVs and fireplaces were lovely as well. The home was very clean and the hot tub was clean, filled, warm and lovely. Going through people's bedrooms to access the tub was a bit different but doable. There is only parking for 5 or 6 cars in the front and we shuffled cars around in order for people to back out of the driveway when they wanted to leave. The driveway and walkway was icy but that's to be expected in Vermont in February. It was great to get an almost immediate response from Lisa when we had a question.
Okemo mountain was only minutes away as was the town of Ludlow. The lake was right down the street too.
Overall, a great stay and would recommend for a group of friends or families!

Repeat stay - just as good as the last time!
House is just how we remembered it from out stay last year. Family and dog friendly. Great proximity to the slopes. Hot tub was warm and functional. Great place for a ski weekend with friends and family. Would definitely recommend.

Great Ski House
We had a great time at the Lake Chalet. It was everything we expected. The house is very close to the ski slopes, has a working hot tub that’s wonderful to sit in after a long day on the slopes, has tons of bedrooms, and privacy from the neighbors. It was a very easy process working with the owner and we had no trouble getting into and shutting down the house. Overall I would highly recommend staying here for a group of friends or a large family looking for a fun weekend in Vermont.

Comfortable, Good for big groups, close to everything, hot tub!
This house is a great setup for groups or a large family, with two identical floor upstairs and downstairs, and the living room/kitchen area emphasized for space. This leaves the bedrooms a little smaller, but still enough space for your things! I liked that design.
The fireplaces were great, and hot tub was awesome! It is certainly one of the best places we've stayed, and seems to be ideal for any season (winter=mountains, summer=on a lake)!
There were small annoyances (Hot tub cover was heavy and designed to hang off side of deck, making it tough to lift. And one of the downstairs beds was very cheap and uncomfortable, the rest seemed nice though!), but nothing serious. The owner is great to work with and is responsive!
Would absolutely stay again!

Good Place for a Large Group
Nice place that accommodated a large group rather comfortably. Wasn't quite as close to water as we had anticipated (short walk down to the dock). Overall though, certainly satisfied with our stay. Recommended.

Did not meet expectations
In a short summary: the pictures on the listing and description of the property are out of date and misleading. Do not expect what you see or read until it is updated to reflect the current condition of the property.
In detail: The house is severely outdated, the pictures of the interior and exterior are from when it was first built/redone. The deck is close to falling down, every time we walked it moved and the railings were bowed out bad. There is only one grill, not two as listed. All three sliders are a workout to open and close. There was no wood inside (despite the description) and what was under the tarp was too damp to use. The dock is much further away than it shows/explains in the pictures and was not put into the lake upon arrival despite the owner knowing we were bringing our boat. The property manager did come and put it in, but only after he and the owner made us feel bad as the lake was still chilly. There are ants everywhere! In the beds, all over the house - do not leave any food on the counters, even during dinner as they will run all over it. The smoking policy is a joke as we spent the first hour of our stay cleaning up the property of butts so our pups didn't eat them. If you are planning on a large group, draw straws for the internet as it is very very slow and a younger crowd needing their tech fix will find it super difficult. The only good thing I can say is the kitchens were fully stocked with utensils and cookware which you don't often find in rentals.
We tried to express our concerns to the owner during our stay but when she did respond to us, she was hesitant to accept that her cleaning lady, property manager and herself were at fault for any of it. Had we known the shape the house was in, we wouldn't have paid as much as we did. Super disappointed as we have properties of our own and have rented several others and have never had an experience like this nor have our renters with us. Will not stay again.

A great property in a great location
We spent a weekend in the chalet in April, before boating season, and still had an incredible time because of the beautiful property. This chalet is perfect for a large group, with two kitchens and several rooms as well as pull out beds for extra space. I seriously recommend renting this property and especially through HomeAway.

Everything we hoped for
The place was amazing, with ample space as well as parking. And the 2nd kitchen came in handy when cooking for 12.
It was also extremely helpful that Lisa spelled everything out clearly, both in email and with a binder in the home to help us know all the workings of the cabin.

The owner is very responsive
Here is the important thing. The owner is really responsive and cares a lot about this property and your experience. I am confident my stay was not typical. The cleaning crew had definitely slacked off before our arrival which made things disappointing. This is the reason I give it 3 stars. The condition at the time was sub par. That said the owner was responsive to our feedback and took great concern to it. I am appreciative of her attention. Aside from this, the location itself is great. Right near Okemo which had a nice summer festival going on over the holiday weekend. The area of VT is beautiful.

Great Stay. Perfect for what we needed!
We stayed here for our wedding last month and it was great. The owner was easy to reach while booking our trip and gave us tons of info regarding the property so we were fully prepared for the weekend. It easily slept our wedding party (10 people) and a few more crashers. It's not a luxury home but it is a very nice lake house! Hot tub was great too! Thank you Lisa!

Nice house and a fun lake
The house was in nice shape and well cleaned. Tons of deck space and some open area in front of the house. The fire pit could use some attention but the hot tub and boats were in good shape.
Just an fyi, there are other houses nearby so if you're looking to be outside late noise could be an issue.

Family convenient and great location
Location and distribution is great for big families. Also locations is perfect (5 min to Okemo Mountain / 10 min to restaurants in town). Kitchen area is new and very convenient for cooking. It also has a great fire place. We recommend to change the table cloth, beds, mattress, cauches and upgrade the bathrooms to have a better impression since they looked old. With a short investment the house could be a gem and reach the 5 stars!!! House needs lots of love, but we had a great time.

Great vacation home!
The house was very clean and kitchens/bedrooms were well equipped. I would definitely recommend bringing spare towels for the amazing hot tub and extra rolls of toilet paper, especially if the house is at capacity! Also, wonderful that the place is dog friendly. Will definitely be back!
