Capture the full charm of the Carmel-by-the-Sea experience in this tidy 1242 square feet, two+ bedroom, two-bath cottage that is within walking distance of the heart of the village, with its many shops, boutiques, art galleries and award-winning restaurants. This sweet one-story home is in a quiet and sunny neighborhood.

A seashore motif, replete with shells, driftwood and soft sun-washed colors of sea-foam blue, sand and white, melds with Pottery Barn flair to produce an environment that is sophisticated yet offers total relaxation and escape. The spacious living room features a coved ceiling with spot lighting, three large paned windows with white shutters that allow in lots of light, hardwood floors and a wood-burning fireplace. Comfortable yet stylish furnishings are accessorized with plenty of pillows and soft, textured throws.

Enjoy gourmet meals in a separate dining room - with built-in cabinetry and a view out through hydrangeas and an orange tree to the street - that can seat six people at the sturdy wooden farmhouse table. Place settings and table linens are provided. Adjacent is the fully-equipped kitchen with its cabinetry painted in a deep ocean blue, tile floor, a self-cleaning gas stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and various small appliances. A separate laundry room with stacking washer-dryer is just off the kitchen. Well-equipped for extended stays!

Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Bedroom #1, decorated in sea-foam green and earth tones, has a king-sized bed with quality linens, plenty of built-in cabinets and closets and views through bougainvillea blossoms to a spacious back deck.

The en suite bathroom with tumbled-marble tile has a large step in shower with a bench seat and is equipped with sturdy hand-rails.

Bedroom #2 has a split king bed with a foam topper and quality linens. This room looks out to a smaller back deck and a bistro table and chairs where you can enjoy the fresh ocean air while you sip your morning coffee.

Optional Bedroom #3 is accessed via Bedroom #2. It is a sun room where you can cozy up to read a book, look out into the back yard or have a catnap. The twin day bed in this cheerful space can sleep one child or can convert to a split king bed with foam topper to sleep two children.

Full hall bathroom with a tub and separate shower, also equipped with hand rails.

Two decks in the back are surrounded by a hedge of pampas grass and furnished with wrought iron chairs, tables, a chaise lounge and a gas grill, provide plenty of sunny space for relaxation, recreation or dining.

Two cars can be parked in the driveway; additional street parking is available. The garage at this property is not available to guests. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, subject to owner’s approval.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was very comfortable.loved the little sunroom at the back.I have to say the sofa in the living room is a bit stained and worn, and the living room rug is a shedding machine! All in all though the house worked well for me. The kitchen is a bit dated, but was well equipped and provided all that i needed. A very home-like place...with friendly neighbors. One more thing ...the backyard is 99% decking but had just enough ground space for my dog to relieve herself! The backyard was full of moldy dog poop when I arrived, but one phone call to the property managers , and someone was sent out and cleaned the yard. They were also very considerate about notifying me if anyone needed to come to work outside. I would recommend Sanctuary Vacations to anyone, and will likely use them again.

The exterior of the home is quaint and well maintained. Several small fruit trees provide a seasonal treat depending on the month/season. Backyard is private with a large deck. Barbecue is provided along with dining table and chairs.. Only one chaise lounge is available. A second would be a nice addition. Pleasant decor inside is evocative of a Pottery Barn makeover. Nice but far from top of the line. The "beachy" touches shown in the photos are somewhat misleading, as a walk to the nearest beach will be a haul for most. Because the home is two blocks from an exit off of Route 1, the street location receives more cut-through traffic than most in the immediate area. Still, the neighborhood is quiet in the evenings. A large and always-full parking area with several cars sits across the street and is a bit of an eyesore, but obviously out of control for the property owner. The biggest shortcoming to this home is its small kitchen. It starts with a lack of a dishwasher, compounded by an old sink and the lack of a dish drying rack, which was subsequently supplied by the property manager. The kitchen supplies are de minimus. It's apparent that the little was invested in the kitchen and laundry room when the cottage was remodeled. The whole area should be gutted, expanded and modernized. As an older home, many of the electrical sockets aren't equipped with 3 way plugs, making it inconvenient to move electronic devices from room to room. Adapter cable were not made available. Again, these should be updated. Old radiant heaters remain from the original cottage. These make it hard to regulate the heat if needed. The fireplace is not gas lit, so you will need starter fuel plus supply your own logs. No A/C, though you would find few days when you may need it in Carmel. That said, only a very few windows have screens and some window cranks are balky. Hence, you may be susceptible to insects or a lack of good cross ventilation when needed. The third "bedroom" in the home is practically worthless. Located in a former back porch area that is only accessible via a walk through the master bedroom. The bed takes up the entire room area. Walk into the room and you practically dive into bed. A more practical solution would be to convert this room back into a screened back porch with a hide-a-bed , including a separate exterior entrance. Net: An O.K. rental but better values can be found in the Carmel area.
