They don't even know how to treat to the customer.and they expect from us to stay there like a monk

The property is in the perfect location if you want to explore Sigiriya. Everything is in 100 meter distance. The information Madhu, our host provided during the starting of the trip is well enough for anyone. You don't want to plan anything, just book River Retreat and Madhu will take care of everything. Great experience.

It was a very pleasant experience stay at this guesthouse: the owner Madu was very nice and speaks a very good English, she explain everything when I arrived and I felt totally oriented. The room it's huge and very comfortable and very clean.
The place itself it's very zen and quite and the location very convenient at walking distance to Sigiriya Rock.
I highly recommended this place to everyone ❤️
I was on Sigiriya Street when a ride was going on and a poor elephant with chains with tourists on top of him suddenly got angry when someone pulled his tail and he turned into a car. What an atrocity people do to the poor animal, this is not his habitat and he feels sad far from his family and his place. But we tourists make this situation worse because we are riding them and we make it happen again. PLEASE IF YOU GO TO SIGIRIYA OR ANYWHERE ELSE, DO NOT RIDE AN ELEPHANT 🙏🙏🙏

Nothing.
While I was taking a shower I saw a frog. After paying the room fee, the host admitted that there's a frog who lives there and it's his house! Although it was mentioned in the room facilities, she didn't give us a new body soap, she suggested to use the dirty used body soap.
We paid when we checked in the room for a one night stay (based on our reservation), but she cancelled this afternoon and claimed we didn't show up!
She mentioned that she has been in the UK, and the quality is very important to her. None of her actions proved her imaginary standard.
I really don't suggest staying there.

Absolutely Nothing.
I'll be dead honest right here, both the rooms and the host are despicable. We are Sri lankan locals who visited this place and the host shows absolutely zero respect for locals and right infront of our eyes the host (Madu) treated some foreigners as if they were her family. Highly egoistic and chatty person constantly defaming the Sri lankan local people of her own kind. Lets get to the rooms - the rooms have all types of insects in them, frogs, spiders, beetles, ants- you name it. The bathroom looks like it had been abandoned decades ago, the location is terrible, once you enter the alley way from the
signboard which reads the resorts' name, you have to go in through a fricking maze before you can get to the spot and plus we came at night so it made it even worse because there was no light on our path and we had to use our own torch. once we came we asked for certain facilities like availability of Wi-Fi and A/C and she (host) replied in a really rude manner saying "you dont get those facilities for the price you have paid". We were so tired once we came and we were carrying like 7 luggages and instead of letting us into the rooms, she gave an entire lecture before letting us in. Then we asked for water because if there exists a hotel there has to be at least the most basic human requirement - WATER and as there were no bottles kept for us we asked the host and apparently the hosts' mom went out so she couldnt give us water as only her mom has the water supply. The biggest set back was extremely rude responses to simple questions. Also there are 2 dogs that are very uncomfortable who keep constantly coming to our pavement and trying to lick us. Again I just wanted to say that If you are reading this you might find good comments from foreigners thats because she treats them properly but not the locals. Please do not visit this hell hole and find yourself other good hotels. Thank you.

I had a wonderful stay in this peaceful & beautiful accomodation, lovely garden with lots of trees, ponds, birds, peacocks & monkeys sat next to a little river right in the middle of the forest. Rooms are large, clean, with all the necessary facilities - Solar powered hot water, fan, mosquito net, good wifi & Aircondition if you need it. Location is also very good - sat next to the main road but sat away so you don't hear any noice, walking distance to both rocks, shops restaurants, bars convieniantly very close by. Madu is an excellent host with fluent English who will give you great advice & tips to make your stay extra special, i did a great Elephant safari with her & she was our great guide with lot of knowledge. Overall it was a very memorable stay & i highly recommend this guesthouse for anyone who is visiting Sigiriya.

Great location with the best of both worlds, right next to the main road with shops and restaurants, but once you get in you feel far away from the noise.
The host is lovely and helpful, she informed me and prepared me well for the morning hike. They also do Ethical safaris, which I didnt do because of lack of time, but if you have to do a safari, this is the way.

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at River Retreat very much! The place is quit with a lot of little ponds at the property. Our room was very spacious and clean!
Greeting to the incredible owner and host Madu - she was phenomenal and explained us everything about the area and things to do in Sigiriya and surroundings. She is also a safari guid and her English is just perfect, so if you are considering to do a safari tour and not only see the animals but to learn some stuff - Madu is the person you need!

Room was spacious and very clean. Excellent location for climbing Sigiriya and Pidurangala..
Madu, a superb host, made me feel very welcome in her guesthouse. She has extensive knowledge of the area and will give you all the tips. Really enjoyed my stay here and I couldn't recommend it enough.
Wifi wasn't working but Madu explained why. The reduced price reflects this lil inconvenience.

The guesthouse is located super close to the rocks, but still very quiet, cause its in the backyard of another guesthouse. Madu was very helpful and explained everything very well. The elephant safari we did with madu was one of our favourite things in sri lanka, totally worth it!

The room was perfect, very large and clean. Also the bed was perfectly clean and comfortable!
The host, Madu, is very kind and caring and will give you very useful hints how to have the best experience in Sigiriya. Definitely the best host we had in sri lanka so far! Also Madu is perfectly fluent in englisch which simplifies a lot.
Additionally the location of the accommodation is perfect to go sightseeing around Sigiriya!
The best thing was, that Madu organized and joined us on an awesome safari to one of the parks close to Habarana. I think there is no better safari experience than the one we had thanks to her. Madu makes sure that the driver doesn’t rush their standard route with all the other jeeps and instead of scaring the elephants away (like most other drivers do) we always approached them more carefully and stopped a bit longer. Those simple differences made the elephants really comfortable around our jeep so that they came really close by themselves, even with their babys. They are very curious animals. We ended up having a unique experience with very very few other jeeps around (on a weekend!!). Also we stayed one hour longer after the park already closed!! There are so many herds of elephants at that time it was just amazing!! In addition to this Madu brought us a little snack and explained a lot of interesting things about the animals and nature around us.
We absolutely recommend this!!!
Oh and the garden is super beautiful and regularly visited by all kind of animals like monkeys and peakocks!

Very nice property. The garden is lovely and the lady who owns the place is so helpful and speaks very good English. The accommodation is only a short walk to Sigiriya Rock. We will be back for another stay.

Excellent location, close to the Sigiriya rock (around 10 minutes walk to the ticket office). Also close to shops, including for SIM cards for mobile data, money exchange, bus stops. Nice and very friendly staff, ready to help you in many things including, giving advices for travel around Sri Lanka, arranging safaris to near by national parks and coming with you as a guide and friend, ready to cook for you if you want, and other things. Beautiful tropical garden in facility, full with noices from animals.
Mosquitoes outside 😁

The location was great. Just a 10 minute walk to Sigiyia. Nice restaurants around.
The rooms were large and beds were comfortable with mosquito nets on 3 of the 4 beds however there was mould in the bathroom and termites on the bedroom walls. The hostess did provide good and useful tips on what to do in the area but she had a short temper and made some racist comments that upset and offended us. We attempted to discuss this with her but she was sadly not open to this.

Great host and accommodation. Clean rooms and beds, good price and quality (we wanted to stay more). Very comfortable and stylish garden. Jungles are right beyond the fence!
Close to all sightseeing. One night was not enought to see and feel all of them. Host provides instructions and advices with outstanding BBC-English. + Delicious hand made breakfast. Thanks for hosting, I'll recommend to my friends!
Rules and conditions are mentioned at booking, but sometimes it is hard to deliver them to all co-travellors. Some local signs or papers on visible places would be helpful to distribute the rules among guests and make them followed.

Great host, so much interesting stories. And a great homemade breakfast - best mixed juice we had here.
I also loved so many animals around the house - few cats, peacock, even monkeys in the distance.
Place is comfy and really close to Sigiria gates - we had just a 20-minutes walk to get there
