Warm and comfortable room.
Friendly staff.

Loved the place warm friendly and amazing history. You can go self catering and their is a washing machine and tumble dryer but costs £5 don't forget your towel and photo I.d grounds are amazing and so beautiful
Bit more variety with the cooked breakfast. Great we can wash our clothes a little steep for £5 per wash. The emergency phone wasn't working which was not good.

Beautiful location! Peaceful countryside! Basic room with bunk beds but you can choose a double bed etc if you book direct with YHA! We booked with booking.com so weren’t given this option but room was clean and fine for 2 nights! The building itself and wonderful location makes up for the basic room and we will definitely be back!

This was the second time we stayed here - beautiful building and surroundings, friendly staff, extremely clean rooms, and good value for money - we will continue to book here for our Alton Towers breaks!
Add veggie bacon to the breakfast menu 👍🏽

Amazing location, great staff and comfy beds
Room needed airing as smelt a bit when we got there

The location is beautiful and lovely to stay in a nice old hall.
Expensive for a very small room with 2 bunk beds squash up. No signal which was nice to disconnect but not great when needing to plan routes.

plenty of mould, I had a terrible night with asma. the smell was horrible. I was very noisy as well.

Lovely location and grounds were more like that of a 5 star country retreat. The check in staff were really helpful and friendly. The room was lovely and warm. Bedding was really well laundered and bright white. Lots of thought had gone into making you feel welcome and well catered for.
The room was a little on the small side and no towels were provided, so make sure you take one, otherwise like us you will be using a T-shirt. The entrance needs a bit of attention.

Staff, location , near to Alton Towers.
Reminded me of my Youth when I was a Backpacker
The rediculous auto light and fan in the room. was in for upto 20 mins after you used the bathroom not great when you have children and trying to sleep Also defused the object of trying to save energy.

Great location, beautiful building with an old world charm, located in midst of very well maintained gardens. Great for a family weekend. One of my most memorable stays.
Nothing in particular, though a good wifi would have been great.

The staff were very welcoming, amazing setting and the rooms were comfortable with great facilities. Breakfast was lovely.
It will be lovely when the youth hostel is able to do evening meals again.

The location can't be beaten and the room was really comfortable
Would have liked there to be evening meals served

it's a pleasure to stay in this beautiful period mansion. YHA did a good job for keeping the original architecture yet modern and clean. in fact room facilities specially the toilet is very modern which is good. Everything is good apart from...
hotel has no food but breakfast. So if you're starving and wanted to eat a hot meal or even a sandwich before morning they don't have any but chocolate and crisps. The area is beautiful but remote famous for hikers enthusiast. I went to stay for the night after a 35mjle walk and was starving and no food to eat. I asked for sandwich even, nothing. Crisps and tea was what I had. I've never look forward for a breakfast in my life lol. Although you are allowed to bring your own food or groceries (which I didn't know prior to coming) the shops are over an hr away by car. So if you're a walker and don't have a car like me, you'll be walking for a bit. Had I known no food in the hotel, I would have stopped by at shops during my 35mjle walk lol. No pubs around or a place to eat. Well, there is but an hr away by car and closes at 8pm. No Deliveroo in the area even or any takeaway. Unless there's 10 of you, you can probably convince restaurants in Ashbourne to deliver it to you otherwise, They don't do delivery given how far and remote is the place plus it's VERY dark in the evening. The place could do some street lights lol .No network in the area so you can't use your phone, they have a very weak wifi through the cloud but it's too weak given how massive is the place) I didn't mind not having internet until my last day. I needed a map to walk back to Ashbourne to catch my bus to derby nada😆 I guessed my way back and the old good asking people around (not much people around too) hotel could've helped me with a map but the receptionist was also the server. He was too occupied to help me, he did give me direction verbally but as someone who's never been in the area. I've no idea what he was talking about. Also they have a very old coin operated telephone that you can use but the phone eats 50p per second lol. no joke.

What a stunning location, beautiful. It is a little more expensive than some YHA places but when you consider where you are and get the timing right to get a room to yourself is a real piece of luck and well worth it.
The furniture in the shared lounge could do with some attention, the upholstery is taped together, tired and shabby and detracts from the otherwise incredible building.

Wonderful location, beautiful building and grounds. Facilities were good - giving the option of self-catering as well as a meals to order. Rooms are pretty basic but clean and exactly what you would expect for YHA.
I had no phone signal or wi-go during my stay - I actually quite enjoyed this but I can how this may be difficult

Location and building is amazing
Other guests contribute to a friendly and pleasant atmosphere
Clean and comfy beds.
Some Staff have a slight attitude problem. Was ringing the bell on front desk for 30 mins to find someone hiding away in the office. For some reason the expectations of customer service are very much lower than in other forms of accommodation.
Games in need of replacing, table football broken, ping pong table and bats totally worn out etc.

location is great, lovely surroundings. They have a well equipped self-catering kitchen if you want to cook your own food or a menu if you prefer to order from them. Nice big halls to chill out and simple but comfortable rooms.
4.4
Beautiful building in a fabulous setting. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Reasonably priced drinks in the bar and food in the dining room was nice. The property was very warm which was welcome given the freezing weather during our stay. Nice to see a mixture of groups using the property including young families, walkers, cyclists, and friend groups. Good facilities, did’t want for anything.
There are a few leaks which could do with fixing as I got wet socks in one of the corridors and unfortunately there was a rather bad smell in the same corridor (it is a very old house though so I appreciate that it probably takes a lot of maintenance). Our bedroom was far too warm when we arrived, so much so we needed to turn off the radiator and open the window to make it bearable to sleep in.

Really nice place, very clean, beautiful location and the staff were lovely especially the guy helping to do breakfast. Would definitely stay here again
No WiFi, three 13 year old girls were nearly crying but it didn't bother myself

The bedrooms were basic as we expected given this is a youth hostel. However the beds were comfortable and the room and facilities spotless. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and friendly and the location magnificent.
