About this apartment hotel

The Arbor House dates back to 1903 when a Swiss cabinet maker built these cottage homes for himself and his family. We pride ourselves in providing our guests with an authentic San Antonio stay. New management is excited and thrilled to provide new experiences in downtown SA. Conveniently located one block from La Villita and River Walk and two blocks from Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Located on the second floor your suite comes with a bedroom with a king bed and a living area with a full size sleeper sofa. Also, your space has its own bathroom and kitchen area with a microwave, sink, dishes, small refrigerator, and coffee maker.

Please make sure to enjoy the garden area and porch patio.

We enjoyed our stay very much at this property. It was so quaint, clean, and well appointed. walking distance to many restaurants downtown, the Riverwalk, convention center, it was perfect for my husband and I during our two day stay! Would certainly book again!

It is exactly how it looks in the pictures - no problems with the property and very easy walk to the Convention center. The neighborhood is transitional, I don't recommend walking alone late at night. Keep your vehicle locked; I guess I didn't and it got rifled through, but no damage and nothing of value to take. Overall I still highly recommend this listing!

Stayed here for a convention. Takes about 20 minutes to walk to the convention center & river walk. The courtyard is a nice place to have coffee or just relax. Highly recommended!!

The place was charming and clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the location was convenient, but there are a few negatives. The courtyard doesn’t look anything like the pictures. It definitely needs some work - dead plants everywhere, it was overgrown with weeds, messy and filthy. The listing lead us to believe we would have a balcony, which was one of the main reasons we booked this particular house, but it didn’t, so there was no comfortable place to relax outside and that was a big disappointment. The water pressure was very low so I recommend giving yourself some extra time if you have thick hair to wash. One of the main things we didn’t like was that the front and back entry doors and every guest room uses the same exact key, so someone could potentially walk into your room when you’re not there. There was a door chain, however, so at least we felt a little safer while inside the room. There were a few times we found the main entry doors to be unlocked. The host controls the air but responded right away when we arrived and told them the room was a bit on the warm side. They had no problem turning it down for us. All in all, if you’re just looking for a place to lay your head that’s within walking distance to the river walk, etc., and you don’t mind the other stuff, it’s a cool little place to stay. For us personally, we would’ve been more comfortable in a hotel but enjoyed experiencing something different.

The location was convenient for seeing the Alamo & Riverwalk. We arrived after 10 pm. Security and or safety was a little concerning, because the vehicle next to where we parked, had its passenger window broken out. We did not have any issues.

I had a wonderful stay—check in was easy, when I called with questions they were very friendly, the location was perfect for what I needed (proximity to convention center). I would stay here again, for sure!

Quiet neighborhood, comfortable bed, easy walk to the convention center, Alamo, and Southtown. As previously noted by another reviewer, there are 3 rooms in the building and all use the same key for the front door and rooms. There are deadbolts and chains inside the rooms for when you are inside, but other guests can potentially enter your room when you are not there. All that said, we have stayed here twice and would stay again as the location is so convenient.

Really weird that all three rooms have the same lock. This is not a secure place to stay.

We truly enjoyed our long weekend in San Antonio. This location was perfect for all that we wanted to see and do. Great restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We walked to The River Walk, Alamo, King William Historical District, Southtown, etc etc

The room is very clean and well appointed. The location to downtown and the River Walk is amazing. We were able to walk everywhere from the room with no problem.

I was very happy to see that the unit actually matched the pics and description on VRBO site. I had arrived a few minutes early and the property manager happened to be there and let me in early. This unit is in the back and upstairs so the construction across the street in the front did not disturb me at all or interrupt from my remote work. Room was decorated very tastefully and had everything you could need (including robes!). Very clean throughout. Housekeeper (Hazel) and property owner (Shawn) very responsive and helpful in answering questions. One block to historic La Villita shops and two blocks to southern loop of Riverwalk as well as close to Southtown shops and restaurants. I felt perfectly safe walking everywhere I needed to go, including the 15 min walk to HEB grocery nearby for wine and snacks, etc., along sidewalk on busy thoroughfare and when returning from Riverwalk in the evenings. I wanted to extend my stay, but they were (understandably) booked all week for the holidays. I plan to return the next time I visit San Antonio.

We were in town for a conference. The listing was incorrect when we originally booked but the property manager was very friendly and tried to be as flexible as possible. The location was surprisingly quiet and made for a very peaceful place to come back and rest after lots of running around.

Beautiful room at historic property that is close to everything. The property is located just 2 short blocks to the Riverwalk and a 15 minute walk to the convention center. We arrived early and the host was gracious enough to let us check in early and was quick to respond to messages or calls. I loved it and will definitely be back next year.

From the time we arrived to the time we left, Arbor House, we had such a wonderful stay. The house has historical history, which is why my husband and I choose this property. Also, it’s walking distance to everything downtown. It is about a 15 minute walk to everything. It is such a quiet place to stay and in a nice neighborhood. When we got there the suite was a little warm, but my husband called and they were able to lower the AC for us right after the phone call was made. The suite itself had everything we needed and was very nicely decorated. We would definitely stay at Arbor House again! 😊

This suite was a perfect place for us to experience San Antonio for the first time. Location was perfect. Just two short blocks to the river walk. Easy access to the freeway. 10 minutes to Fort Sam Houston we’re are son is currently. The room had all we needed and was nicely decorated. We would definitely stay here again.

Loved that details were kept in this historic old home & blended with modern design in furnishings. Very comfortable & clean. Host’s communication was prompt. Free parking for one vehicle was a definite perk. Walking distance to attractions & restaurants. The courtyard has tremendous potential to look beautiful but is in dire need of some TLC. Would certainly recommend & stay here again.

Great location within easy walking distance to La Villita, Hemisphere Park, Riverwalk and several restaurants. Will return. One caveat, if you have problems with stairs be sure and get a 1st floor suite.

This property was a lovely surprise, it was exactly as described in the listing. The bed was comfortable, nicely decorated, and big bathroom with plenty of light. Sadly, we only stayed two nights, but we will stay here again every time we are back to San Antonio. From a frequent traveler that enjoy nice staying, we highly recommend it.

I was in San Antonio for a conference that was held at one of the large riverwalk hotels. The Arbor property was more economical and, despite all of the downtown construction, an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel/riverwalk. The property has a nice outdoor area for relaxing and is also within easy walking distance of the King William Historic District with its numerous restaurants and funky shops.

Quiet location in the heart of San Antonio. So convenient to have parking right around the corner. Loved the outdoor area. The space was nice, but could use a good dusting of the blinds and wallboards. The couch could definitely use some new padding because it was pretty worn, but the bed was comfortable, and overall it was a good value for the cost.
