Nice quiet location.
Would have been better if the gardens weren’t shared.

The Honey Suckle cottage is located (along with 2 other cottages) in a converted barn of a 500 year old farmhouse. On the ground floor is an open kitchen, dining and sitting area. Via a very narrow steel spiral staircase you reach the attic floor where the bathroom and 2 bedrooms are located. The cottages have a shared, secluded garden.
The building has a charming appearance. You can see that it was renovated with great taste at the time. The owner is very friendly and has collected a lot of information about the area. The garden is fully fenced so that our dog could walk around freely.
The cottage has overdue maintenance. The refrigerator and freezer doors do not close properly. The wash stand in the bathroom is unnecessarily small and low, making it difficult to use. There was hardly any space for our toiletries, so you can't really feel at home. The bathroom was not clean, for example the joints of the tiles and around the taps. In the bedroom there is not enough space to hang clothes. It is hard to carry a suitcase up the narrow staircase.

Amazing facilities! Stayed in winter and the property was always warm which was ideal. Really cozy both downstairs and upstairs. I would 100% recommend staying here and hope to stay here again on my next visit. Quirky idea to have a bath tub in the bedroom but i'm definitely not complaining. What a cute property!
Perhaps a slightly bigger TV down stairs, or I need to go back to Specsavers!? It was slightly difficult to view the TV from the sofa and could only watch it while sitting at the table.

Everything was lovely, great space in The Thresher Barn for all of us to be together. Beautiful stunning cottages.
Downstairs toilet seat stiff with wobbly hinges, and the alcove fridge smelling of fish, which we sorted out. The Saltwater team/owners were very responsive and apologetic.

Town was a little run down

Beds & sofas were very comfortable. Pretty little shared courtyard and garden. Walking distance to convenience stores and take-aways. Good base to visit Babbacombe cliff railway, Sheldon / Teignmouth / Dawlish. Highly recommend steam railway to Dartmouth (from Paignton). Coleton Fishacre NT property has absolutley wonderful gardens, sea views, cafe and garden shop.
Located in quite a built-up area. Not really walking distance to beach (more of a hike really - very hilly). Traffic noise early in morning. Kitchen facilities minimal and tired. Character of outside not reflected inside. Tight spiral staircase difficult to negotiate. Public parking in resorts expensive / difficult (permits available from tourist office - after you've parked - or take lots of change). Public loos very good (charges apply). Some parking and loos have card payment facility. Local traffic can be very heavy. Directions to property took us in "the back way" to Barton from Newton Abbot. Stick to main road if you want to avoid narrow roads but be prepared for congestion (from main road turn left at MacDonalds traffic lights then left again at roundabout after the crematorium).

Nothing at all 😊

In an unlocked box outside property. Easy to access once we had found the sign with property name that was not initially visible.
Not dog friendly. Not allowed on sofas or in bedrooms but couldn’t access the bedrooms anyway because they were up a very tight spiral staircase. My partner, celebrating his 70th birthday is 6ft 2in and the stairs almost impossible. The curtains had to be shut at all times as the entrances to the other properties were next to our door, making it very clostrophobic. No view. No heating, try as we might we couldn’t get it working. Only one bed was made up even though we stated when booking that another 4 people would be joining us for the weekend. We didn’t last that long, we left on Friday morning instead of staying until Sunday.

We had such a beautiful week in Sweet Rose. Our welcome on arrival made us feel at home immediately and the welcome gift after a long journey was beautiful. The cottage was warm, homely, clean and very well stocked with everything you need. The location is also perfect to explore the Devon coastline.

The location is great for visiting nearby attractions, with a bus stop only a 5 min walk away. If you want to park your car up during your stay, parking is available on site and the 31 bus runs regularly to Torquay harbour. There you can catch onward connections. The cottage is comfortable with a lovely garden area.
Martin and Kim are great hosts, and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. A lovely welcome pack is provided and the cottage contains everything you will need for your stay.

Sweet Rose Cottage was a little 'chocolate box' piece of heaven. Everything you could possibly need was in the cottage, Martin and Kim have thought of everything. To welcome us, there was tea, coffee and milk and some gorgeous choc chip shortcake biscuits, not to mention Prosecco! There was washing up liquid, cloth, sponge and T. Towel in the kitchen and sumptuous white towels and hotel quality bedding (and a VERY comfortable bed) in the beautiful bedroom upstairs, topped off by a deep free standing bath - all made for a perfect and very romantic setting. We were lucky with the weather and were able to enjoy the cottage garden as well. It is a perfect location either for walking or if you want to travel a little further afield and don't want to use the car, the bus stop is literally a stone's throw from your front door and we found the buses were very reliable. Martin and Kim (and previous guests) have provided a wealth of information contained within 3 folders. So you'll never be stuck for ideas on places to visit (rain or shine) or recommended eateries, whether they be eat in, takeaway or delivery. We had fish and chips from Paul, just down the road - very tasty!! We managed to get a last minute booking at Angels in Babbacombe for afternoon tea, which was lovely! We would recommend that you pre-book if there are particular restaurants you want to eat at, as many are fully booked due to restricted numbers etc because of Covid, although this may change after 19 July. There are also details of numerous walks straight from the cottage and further afield, all put together by Martin and Kim.
We asked Martin if we could park our car whilst we did some exploring on our day of arrival and until we could check in, but Martin went one step further and as circumstances allowed, he was able to let us into the cottage earlier, which was fantastic as we could unpack, freshen up and make a day of it!
We had to come home!
