I rented another room the day of check-in, half the price and a way better breakfast.

The view and location

The lotion in my room was open when we got there. the floor has a weak spot in it by the bed and the breakfast nook. The breakfast had dry, hard, dry pastries.

Relaxing and comfortable

I loved the coffee and pastries and I loved that the hotel was open outdoor and not an enclosed building. It was cozy and comfortable and the staff , especially the ladies that cleaned our room were very nice and hospitable. Will definitely come back.

There was a loud ass neighbor that sat on the outdoor lounge area early in the morning and that was in front of our window. She they were also next door and were just loud late night as well but either than that. We loved our stay!

My stay at the MacRae was pleasantly close to the action and comfortable.

Loved the location. The staff was friendly. It was very comfortable.

It could use a slight facelift. Remove the carpet in the bedrooms. Improve the lighting. Better ventilation.

Dirty, ugly room for $600 a night, food awful.

Front desk was very nice

She probably was stressed since it seemed she was the only server for the whole restaurant. Food was horrible. Room had mold and left over hairs in bed and shower.

Wonderful! Would stay there again, no doubt.

Location, location, location! Just a few meters from the beach and right in the middle of restaurants and shopping areas. Although it’s on the main street which can get loud, once you enter the hotel it is very quiet and peaceful. The room was a bit small but I traveled alone so it was perfect for me. Such a wonderful hotel!

No elevator. There’s approximately 15 stairs to get to the lobby area and it’s very hard to get up and down when you’re traveling with heavy luggage. Depending which floor you stay there might be another set of stairs to get to your room as well. If you travel light it shouldn’t be an issue.

Location was good and room was clean.

I was told I would likely get a room that fronted the courtyard. I was put in a room back in a corner near the vending and ice machine (that you could hear running) where customers could store their luggage which made it difficult to access the room on a couple of occasions. The second day there was a bunch of customers that came in a took over the entire courtyard and were allowed to leave all their liquor and snacks on all the available tables and all the chairs were moved around the tables. This occurred on the last two days I was there. The breakfast was not good. More like a snack until you could get to breakfast someplace else.

Glad we had friends to spend time with away from our room

The location

The bathroom was horrible. Old is one thing but dirty is another. Yuck There was a 60 birthday party group that had all of the rooms around the outside seating and took it over with drinks and food the entire weekend.

great stay, helpful staff, perfect location

The staff were really nice and super helpful! the room was spacious and the location is amazing.

I just wish the check in time and check out time was a little later because you have to store your luggage it an outside storage area and i just wish it was a little more secure.

The location was good but if I returned I wouldn’t stay here again.

The breakfast was a old muffin and coffee. Nothing to right home about. The room was old and not very clean.

Update the hotel. A better breakfast.

it wasn’t what I expected

Muffin and coffee and orange juice was only offered no actual breakfast was served. Very disappointed had to go visit actual restaurants

Our room was right in font of the office heard everyone checking in rooms need to be updated decor is very sad

Relaxing, invigorating and comfortable.

The staff were very accommodating. After we had checked out, one of our friends got food poisoning and was quite sick. Even though the hotel was sold out, the front desk clerk was very gracious and helpful when trying to make her comfortable. Everything about this trip was excellent.

There is nothing I didn’t like about this stay!

We had two beautiful days in Catalina and enjoyed our stay. The MacRae Hotel is nicely located in the middle of Avalon.

The location was great.

I think they should let people know that the hotel is on the second and third floor of a building with no elevator. So you need to plan to take your suitcases up 27 stairs if you’re on the second floor and more if you’re on the third floor. When we arrived, the lady at the desk and another young man were sitting and offered no help and acted as if they couldn’t care less that we were there. The owners should teach their staff to greet the customers and put their cell phones away and at least attempt to be helpful. Because of the stairs, this is not a property for older people with luggage.

Great place, close to all adventures, would come back again!

More variety would have been nice. Same offerings of 2 Danish and 3 muffins. Bagels and cream cheese and fresh fruit would be great. Hot chocolate along with coffee and tea selections would be great for kids.

Elevator access for those who can't or have a difficulty time with stairs. But with an older building it might not be feasible at this point.
