About this house rental
A fun, modern, cozy apartment sitting on top of Munjoy Hill on North Street. Enjoy some of the best views in the city facing southwest to downtown, the Back Cove, with the White Mountains in the background, and stunning sunsets. The apartment is part of a two-unit home that we own and occupy. Enjoy the sunny backyard overflowing with flowers, hops, apples and grapes. We are a 2-minute walk to Washington Avenue, where there are a number of amazing restaurants, bars, breweries, distilleries and hip stores. We are an 8-minute walk to the East Bayside brewery area.
Our home was built in 1876. It is one of the oldest homes on the hill. We bought the house in 2010 and have renovated it. We are a family of four living upstairs. We are an international family. I am from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and my wife is from Lisbon, Portugal. We love to travel the world seeking adventure and sun in the winter. We are very passionate about surfing, skiing, mountain biking, beer, food and Portland, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask us.
We made the apartment a fun blend of the historic nature of the home with modern touches and artwork we have picked up while traveling the globe. My wife Rita from Portugal speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian for those travelers preferring to communicate in these languages. We truly hope you have a wonderful stay in our little oasis on the hill.
Please note that our two-bedroom set up is “railroad style”, so you go through one bedroom to get to the second bedroom. This is a common and authentic style of building in the 1800s. This setup is great for families with kids, but we will defer to you to decide if it is comfortable for two couples seeking privacy. As a solution. we have a sectional sofa that converts to a queen size bed in the living room. This is not a traditional pullout with uncomfortable bars in the middle, instead if feels like an actual mattress. We have a super soft topper for it to make it even cozier. The living room has window curtains that can be closed for privacy for those sleeping on the converted sofa.

Loved every minute of our stay at the globe house. Ryan and Rita are great people and the property is gorgeous inside and out. So close to so many breweries and eats. Thank you for the beer and conversation. Just remember the skunk in the park up the street. Nice views at night.

Great historic house in a terrific location.

It was great.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Great location, extremely clean, and great hosts. However, the listing is misleading, there is no access to rooftop patio or the back yard. So there is no view of sunsets or even of Casco Bay. This was definitely one of the major selling points and a bummer when we checked in.

I was so excited to show my dad why I love New England and this was the perfect place to do it!!! The property exceeded all expectations, even from the beautiful pictures. The location was perfect, we were able to walk to so many things. The host provided a comprehensive binder filled with helpful tips and recommendations. Looking for another reason to go back soon!!!

Excellent communication with host, property as described with additional touches from the host that made us feel welcome, right at home. Beds were comfortable and that can make or break a stay for me! Wonderful location, overall great experience!

This is the most awesome location. What a sweet little place definitely coming back to Portland, Maine.

Lovely little neighborhood, 2.5 blocks from Belleville Bakery and the Portland Observatory. ½ block from a park with a sunset view, though you can see it from the back yard, too. Easy walk to the dock where a bunch of boats launch, including Lucky Catch lobstering expeditions, which was a highlight.
Rita & Ryan were extremely accommodating and helpful. Their place is hip without being too cool, and the back yard is great for coffee in the morning and/or a drink in the evening.

We rented the property for our visit to Portland due to our daughter’s graduation. It was a perfect spot for our weekend trip. Great location. Walkable to all of central Portland. The owners are very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend.

Artfully decorated and located walking distance to restaurants and parks. This was the perfect place for me and friends to visit around the table, watch a hockey game on TV, walk to restaurants, heat up take out, and was close to site seeing museums and light houses. The host was quickly available for suggestions. Check in and out was simple.

The Globe House was the perfect spot for our friends gathering. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with many thoughtful amenities. Rita made sure we had everything we needed and the book in the apartment had great recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area. Would definitely book again when in Portland.

The apartment owners set us up for success with our 20mo old!!! We did not have to pack the necessary items needed when traveling with a child. The location is wonderful and walkable to many shops, restaurants, and parks! Also, the apartment is inviting and stylish and offered much more room than any hotel in the area!

We had a great stay at Ryan and Rita’s home. The neighborhood was great, a short walk to cafes, bars, restaurants and the beautiful eastern promenade. Globe House was the perfect home base for our family of four in town for a Labor Day weekend wedding. The location was great and the apartment was impeccably clean, the kitchen well appointed, and the entire space artfully decorated. Our hosts Ryan and Rita were welcoming and responsive. They thought of all the little things to make us feel at home, including a chilled bottle of wine that awaited us upon arrival and everything we needed for morning coffee!

We had an amazing stay at the Globe House. The space is beautiful and bright and beautifully appointed. The kitchen was very well stocked and everything was very comfortable. Great for kids. Pull out couch in the living room was super comfortable. And the location of this home cannot be beat. Walkable to lots of great restaurants. Great but peaceful neighborhood. We would come back in a heartbeat.

The spot was amazing. The location is great, it's clean, everything is really kept up nicely. There were also nice little details like a jar of Hershey chocolate for our kids that were nice touches. They are also responses hosts. Highly recommended.

Overall, the property was as advertised. Like most listings on VRBO, the communication with property manager was great. No issues. I believe the property manager/family live above this space on the second floor. They were quite and unobtrusive with lots of nice touches throughout the house. Although you didn't have the house to yourself (which they clearly stated in the description), it was nice space that felt similar to hotel. Older, charming house. Some quirks (uneven floors, go thru one bedroom to get to the other) but you would expect that in an order home. Fairly quite neighborhood and some cool spots within a short walk. Seem to be a nice mix of families (mostly) and singles. Good choice is your looking for a good value in the family neighborhood in Portland.

This rental was clean, bright and fun. It worked well for our family if 5, which is often hard to find. We enjoyed being able to walk so many places, but also being able to park right out front on the road.

Portland is a super fun and funky place, and our stay here was the same! The Globe House was the perfect place to take in all that Portland has to offer. We walked everywhere! Owners were super responsive and their booklet of ideas and suggestions had something for everyone. The beds were really comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped. We really enjoyed the beautiful home and our stay in Portland.

The owners go out of their way to ensure your stay is enjoyable. The home is centrally located around excellent breweries (we tried APRES and Maine Craft Distillery) and awesome restaurants you could walk or drive to. We stayed with our 4 month old and the owners provided us with a foldable pack n play, a baby swing, high chair, toys and books. They were in contact with us before our trip to give us recommendations, inform us where to park etc. They provided their phone number in case we needed it as well. The bed was comfortable, the home is clean and bright and it has a very good ‘Maine’ vibe. There was a great welcome binder full of recommendations all throughout Portland. It’s evident that the owners really care and want you to enjoy the beautiful city of Portland. Absolutely recommend and already looking forward to trip #2 next year.

Loved our stay in this compact, joyfully decorated first floor flat on Munjoy Hill. The view through the bedroom windows is stunning. The kitchen has just the right mix of equipment, the living room is cozy for family hangouts, and communication with our hosts was top-notch. We will be back!
