About this house rental
Welcome to The Channel House! We are excited to offer this unique and very private space for you to create fabulous family vacation memories.
Perched atop the highest point on the Muskegon Channel, this updated, cozy and serene home is quite the special find. Enjoy a very private space with 180 degree views from Muskegon Lake in the east to Lake Michigan in the west. The house sits alone, high on a bluff so the amazing views belong to you and you alone.
The Channel House is a boat watcher's paradise with the Muskegon Channel providing a continuous panoramic show. Enjoy an endless parade of watercraft, including huge freighters and tug/barges, Great Lakes cruise ships, six viewings a day of the “Lake Express,” the cross lake ferry, a multitude of pleasure and sport boats, sailing vessels, yachts and personal watercraft. You’ll be amazed and entertained and there is no other view on the channel like it. Have a seat on one of the three decks and enjoy the show!
The Channel House features a large and very private yard overlooking the channel with a rustic fire-pit and plenty of room to play, hammock, play yard games and enjoy outdoor dining and relaxing.
If you love sunsets then you'll find this a special place to view spectacular sunsets that set the sky ablaze. Each sunset is a work of art with vivid colors that linger on for longer than you might think. If you are very lucky you may get to witness an extra special sunset on the Channel. When the conditions are just right the entire channel will light up in pinks, oranges and purples, an absolutely breathtaking natural spectacle.
When the fresh cool lake breezes are not enough to keep you comfortable, we have installed air conditioning units on both levels of the home. There is a ceiling fan in the main living room and the upstairs master bedroom, with table and floor fans available if needed.
There is plenty to do in the area to make those great vacations memories. It’s only a short walk to Michigan’s best beach-Pere Marquette on Lake Michigan. The sugar sand beach is very clean and regularly groomed and sifted. There is a large play structure for the little ones as well as restrooms and concession area. Play in the water, build a sandcastle, fly a kite, take a kite-boarding lesson, rent a boat, seadoo or paddleboard and so much more.
Harbour Towne Beach is a short walk in the other direction and sits on the shore of Muskegon Lake. If the “Big Lake” is too rough or cold, consider Harbour Towne Beach. Both beaches are very walk-able, however if you have little ones and a bunch of gear, consider driving. Parking at both beaches is pay at the parking kiosk.
Walk the entire length of the paved channel and take a tour of the lighthouse at the west end. It’s quite a climb up and it’s not for the faint of heart but well worth the view. Bring your fishing pole and do some channel fishing-license is required.
For history buffs, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum is a stone’s throw away and a big feature in your backyard view. Consider visiting for a great day of WWII submarine history.
Two fantastic seasonal restaurants are within walking distance from The Channel House. Docker’s Fish House sits on Harbour Towne Marina and is a very short walk. Here you’ll find a varied menu of great food with live entertainment Friday through Sunday. Newly expanded, The Deck sits right on the beach at Pere Marquette to the north of the Pier. The menu consists of smoked meats and sauces with delicious sides and a variety of other items. The Deck features live music on most days of the week and has quickly become THE place to be.
For boaters, a launch ramp is available at Harbour Towne Marina for a daily fee. There are several other nearby boat launch sites along the Muskegon Lake shoreline. If you have a large watercraft, consider a transient slip at Harbour Towne Marina, availability may be limited however.
If you’d like to venture farther out, consider visiting our revitalized Downtown Muskegon area with unique restaurants, craft breweries and makers of distilled spirits, cute shops as well as a terrific Farmer’s Market. Heritage Landing hosts many summertime activities and festivals. Michigan’s Adventure Amusement and Water Park is a 30 minute drive for a full day of family fun and West Michigan has many quaint towns to visit along the coast.
Come stay at The Channel House and experience all that West Michigan has to offer: Brilliant Beaches and Fun Festivals, Miles and Miles of nature and bike trails, parks and dunes, restaurants and breweries. Your hosts are always happy to recommend any number of activities for you to enjoy.

This home shows the Muskegon waterfront at its finest. It is right on the channel from Muskegon Lake to Lake Michigan, and there are 4 spots to view the boat activity. You can walk along the channel to the beach. At the house there is good grilling deck and patio, fire pit for s’mores, and a great yard for games. The interior is lovely. Cross breezes, well-appointed kitchen, excellent conversation areas. Superb master suite. Spotless.

What a blessing to stay with our family at this peaceful and pretty property.
The views of the channel and boats passing through were amazing!
We got nightly visits from the deer.
We loved all the cozy, comfortable seating to relax, read, and fellowship.
This property is fantastic!

The perfect house for a weekend at Michigan’s Adventure! Our group consisted of moms and kids doing a day trip to the park. The house was a perfect distance and a great place to relax! The view was beautiful and the house was very clean and comfortable. We’d definitely stay again!

House sits on top of one of the highest and largest dunes in the area, with multiple walk-out decks on both the second floor and the main level. Surrounded by trees for just the right amount of shade. Beautiful rustic chic decor throughout. There are two double bunk beds in one of the bedrooms for the kids. Three TVs with remotes. Place was clean upon arrival. My kids loved watching the boats go by and the deer that would popup randomly in the yard. We stayed during Oct Fall, but I could imagine snuggling up on the couch with a hot cocoa during Winter, watching the snow fall and boats pass by in the channel. Our minivan made it fine up the dune in Oct Fall, but if there's snow, I don't think I'd attempt it without 4-wheel drive. We planned a week full of kids activities in and around Muskegon and coming back at end of day to relax to watch the boats go by with a good family movie on, was perfect for us. Thank you!

We had a fabulous weekend at the Irish Musical Festival in Muskegon. The home we stayed at was perfect and great grounds! Lovely stay and we will be back.

Great location and we will stay again sometime! You couldn't ask for a better retreat to just sit back and get your lazy on. I think 🤔 my wife and I sat together out in the red chairs, plowed through a couole bottles of our wine and just watched boats and the friendly deer munching on acorns in the yard. It was absolutely relaxing and great place to run away from work and life for a bit. You will enjoy your stay.

Stayed in early August with multi-generational family - property has beautiful view of river and awesome breezes - from the s'mores kit, hammocks, yard games, fire pit, easy access to beach (and beach chairs/pails on hand too!) this property was perfect for our group of 8! Thank you for hosting us - we loved our stay!

Great use of there space and very clean. We will be back to this gem but with less on the agenda so we can enjoy the property more.

This is a perfect property for those looking for a summer vacation that fully avoids the typical, over-crowded Michigan towns like South Haven or Saugatuck. The property sits up on a hill and has a perfect view of the Muskegon channel. The constant flow of ships, shade from the trees, and steady breeze off the lake create a perfect environment to read, play lawn games, or take a nap, even on the hottest of summer days. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away (all sidewalks), with two excellent restaurants within walking distance. Both restaurants have live music throughout the summer months as well. While there is no quaint village that you can walk to, you can easily drive/bike into town to shop. There is also a nice farmer's market that is 15 min. away by car. On an inclement day, visit the Silversides submarine museum. The museum is an outstanding value and includes both a tour of a WWII submarine and Coast Guard cutter. The house is well-equipped and clean, as advertised. Mulberry trees attract deer for a daily encounter with wildlife. We will definitely return.

We were in town for a friend's wedding. Location was very convenient. Views of the channel from inside and out were amazing. We could walk to the beach and a couple fun, nearby establishments. The Deck was very fun with excellent food. We played bags in the yard and enjoyed a campfire. House was clean, cosy, and comfortable and had everything we needed. Host was great.

It was absolutely perfect. My husband and I stayed with his parents at the Channel House. It was gorgeous, spotless, and the location was amazing. We spent lovely afternoons talking and enjoying the birds and boats. Then in the early mornings there were deer, which was just wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for a better place. Thank you to Chuck and Kathy for being clear about rules and for providing fantastic coffee on top of everything else. We’re definitely hoping to come back soon for another stay!

Beautiful home tastefully decorated and provided all the incidentals we needed for our 3 day getaway with our son and family. Being on the channel side was fun in watching the boats traverse through to Lake Michigan. The owners are very communicative and were very helpful with all of our questions. We would rent here again without trepidation. Thanks for a lovely place to decompress.

This was our 3rd time choosing to spend a week of our summer at The Channel House. Our family of 4 keeps coming back all the way from the East Coast. It’s because the property is such a gem and we all love being here to enjoy the views, breezes, boat watching and easy access to the local beaches. Kathy and Chuck are amazing owners who have created a “can’t miss” place to get away. We always leave here happier than when we arrived. Thanks, Kathy and Chuck! The Channel House experience is special.

We booked a year in advance for a week in July. Everything went smoothly.
It’s a really cute place and we enjoyed our stay. The beach is a short walk or drive and is not busy. We spent a day on the beach. Also, took kids to Michigan Adventure, Louis farms, and canoeing.

The Channel House was the perfect house for our family’s trip to Muskegon for our son’s repeat Covid 2020 wedding. Kathy was very understanding of our situation and helped us in planning what we needed to make the weekend special. The house was clean and well stocked with amenities. The large living area and great backyard was perfect for our wedding morning prep and day after family gathering. The view was spectacular and the location’s closeness to the Deck and Dockers and the beach were perfect. We could not have picked a better property for our family wedding weekend. Thank you Kathy and Chuck for being excellent hosts and being available for any questions we had. If we return to MI this will be the place we stay!!!
