The main floor of the house allowed enough room for 7 adults to move freely. At no point in time did we feel limited by space. The fire pit and seating area in the backyard were a great way to enjoy the evening, especially with the firewood provided by the property. The only down side was the bedrooms with twin beds. Due to the age of the house it does not have central air. The bedrooms with the twin beds had box fans but could get hot during the summer months. Luckily during our stay the weather was cool so we could open the windows. Overall the house is very nice and provided a relaxing environment. The house is only a few blocks from downtown which made for a nice walk to and from dinner.

We had a great week in this Manistee charmer. With having 1 son and 5 daughters, it can be tricky to find accommodations where everyone has the beds and privacy that they need, and this house fit the bill. I loved that it is in a very quiet neighborhood, across the street from a school playground and just minutes from 2 Lake Michigan beaches and the quaint downtown area. There's quite a bit to do in the area, yet it is not overly touristy. Very relaxing and beautiful area to stay in. We hope to be back again in the future.

This is a nicely cared-for older home in a quiet neighborhood across from a school with a playground and close to downtown Manistee. Four bedrooms -- 3 with double beds, 1 split room with 4 twins. It was perfect for our family vacation and accomodated 4 adults and 3 kids comfortably. The owners are thoughtful in their provisions: there are beach chairs, beach towels, and box fans available for use if needed and there are a few basics in the kitchen that were helpful. Overall, a very comfortable place to stay.

Great place close to downtown. Park across the street for kids. Only drawback is no central air. A/c units in the bedrooms were great but gets a little hot downstairs during the day.

Lovely house in a fantastic location
We enjoyed staying in this lovely house. It's clean, spacious, and provided everything we needed for preparing meals inside or out. The desirable location was within an easy walk to downtown and 1 mile to 1st Street Beach. We can't wait to stay again!

Great home, Lots of sleeping Space
This place worked out perfect for our hunting trip. Plenty of sleeping space. Beautiful word work throughout the house. Only suggestion I would say is to have the heat turned up for guests prior to arrival. House was at 52 degrees when we arrived late in the evening and it took a while to warm up to a comfortable temp. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

Lovely big Victorian getaway!
The Short House was a great place for my large family, it offered lots of space for us to visit and have lots of fun. We stay in Manistee every year for Labor day, this year as most of the family camped and I rented a house for some of our elder family who can't really camp anymore, my son and I. We had all the comforts of home. Kristen was a joy to rent from, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to stay in this amazing Victorian treasure!

The house was in a great location. Super quiet neighborhood. Walk or bike to beach and downtown. There’s a small school playground across the street. House was clean and orderly when we arrived. We really appreciated being able to use the laundry machines. The kitchen is very dated but has all you need to make meals as far as pots and pans, plates, glasses, silverware etc. None of the living room or dining room windows would open/ still had the storm windows on. The only windows that would open downstairs were kitchen and bathroom windows and one at the base of the stairs. It got pretty stuffy in the dining and living room areas in the afternoons w the sun. Only one bedroom upstairs has a window A/C. So it was a bit hot to sleep even with fans a couple of the nights And I agree with other reviews about needing more mirrors particularly in the bedrooms since there is only one bathroom with a shower that has a small mirror. The half bath does not have an outlet. I would also recommend bringing a powerstrip extension cord for each bedroom. All in all we really enjoyed our stay dispite the above thoughts. We would definitely stay there again. The owner was very quick to respond to any concerns and questions we had. I really appreciated that. We were in the area for a week for the North County Trail Run and this was a great place to stay. Like I mentioned, super quiet location so had a great nights sleep before the race!

Fishing trip
Myself and 4 of my friends spend couple nights in this home while visiting Manistee for our fishing trip. The house has plenty of room and we loved the history of it. We arrived while it was dark so finding our way from the back of the house to the front door was bit challenging as there are no lights in the back yard which is where we needed to park. We had everything we needed. The house was clean and equipped with everything we needed. Thankfully it was a cool weekend and we did not need the air conditioning because the house is listed as "air conditioned" but there is only a small window unit on one of the upstairs bedrooms so if you are staying here on a hot weekend, it may not be as comfortable. Everything else was great. The house was close enough to town that you could walk there. We stopped for dinner at the recently opened North Channel Brewing Company and the food and beers were amazing. We chartered a trip with Steelhead Hunter Fishing Charters and had a great time.

Hello. We had a great stay. I trust you will find everything in order. Your home is beautiful, we loved the charm. We also rented another house a few blocks west to accommodate the rest of our family. My only comment would be to consider adding a few mirrors in the bedrooms to ease the getting ready process. We purchased extension cords and left one, this made it easier to place the fans. Overall great stay.Kind regards,Lisa Collins

Beautiful Home!
Our family loved staying here. It was spacious, clean and had everything you could ask for. The outdoor patio area and fire pit was adorable. The Kitchen had everything necessary and the bathrooms were very nice.
Our only complaint was not being able to open windows in the LR/Dining area. It was very hard to cool down the house. If we were able to open up a few windows in each of these rooms we could get some cross ventilation which would allow the place to cool down much better. Or if ceiling fans were installed in these rooms this would help - the kitchen ceiling fan made a big difference keeping cool while working in the kitchen. All things considered a wonderful place to stay!

Charming century old house close to the center of Manistee. Furnished with my needs for a week
Gave us a closeness to the city and the lake. Was clean through out and furnished with appliances needed to make coffee and wash/dry clothes. These are necessities when away from your home. As we were there for my granddaughter's wedding the iron came in very handy. The entrance was great as we didn't have to carry keys. Instructions were clear of your expectations for us. Enjoyed the reading materials left around. History of Manistee. Liked the list of places to eat and see. Over all it was a wonderful week. Thank you for sharing your house. Josh & Katie Coester will be living there so it will be a destination again.

Great location, warm and cozy family home feel.
It was a great location and very close to downtown and the riverwalk. It worked well to accommodate 6 adults and 2 toddlers. The beach towels and chairs provided made a trip to the beach much easier. We had a great stay and really enjoyed the new fire pit. SMORE'S!!

Perfect for a friend reunion!
My friends and I stayed at this house while in town for a friend's wedding, and we had a wonderful time! The house has been masterfully renovated while keeping the character of the original build. There was plenty of space for all 6 of us, and we were even able to comfortably sleep 10 for a bachelorette party sleepover! We especially enjoyed the firepit in the backyard - it's the perfect place to relax after a long day.
The location of the house is fantastic. It is only a few minutes from downtown as well as several beautiful beaches. (We recommend the 5th Avenue Beach!) The house is on a quiet street and we had plenty of parking space for our 3 vehicles.
This particular group of friends have been traveling together for many years, and this was definitely one of the best stays we've ever had. We will be sure to stay here next time we are in Manistee!
