What a difference a year makes.

We booked on short notice and were a little concerned because of earlier reviews. It's obvious the owners are in the process of improving the facilities and our room was great. The location was ideal for visiting the beach and running back into Keel for dinner. The bar was lively and served as a good place for guests and locals to gather.

Overall we enjoyed the stay at Stand hotel.

Excellent location. Staff especially Margaret her hospitality was superb welcomed us with a smiling face. Liked the breakfast cooked as per individual preference. Would like to stay again next time we visit Achill

Would prefer to get rooms closer each other as requested while booking which was not available, made us bit disappointed.

A special secret birthday treat for my husband, with all the family gathering - very special.

Great breakfast with veggie sausages and black pudding for the vegetarians in the family. Really nice staff who made us all feel welcome and had toys and activities for the children. The location is superb, though we had missed the heatwave unfortunately.

Bedside lamps by the side of all beds would have been good.

Great little spot

Such lovely staff really work soo hard to make everyone happy. Food was really nice too. Fish n chips fab chicken curry fab stir fry fab. Breakfast was OK too.

The taps in the bar didn't seem to be working at their best. Very little gas in the Guinness so it settled straight away and went flat very quick. The o2 to nitrogen ratio needs adjustment.

the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. location was great. the place was well cleaned too!

super dated interior and a bit rickety. didn’t feel very luxurious i suppose but it did what it said on the tin! the staff being so nice and accommodating, and the fact our room was clean and comfortable despite being dated, meant that the hotel’s appearance wasn’t as important to the stay.

The hotel and hotel staff are the heart of what Ireland stands for!

Arriving in Achill, the hotel was very easy to get to! The staff were unbelievably helpful especially Margaret who seems to take care of everything from check-in, serving at thé bar, breakfast/dinner, guest care and rooms. There is so much pride for this hotel you can tell this from the locals who attended on Saturday night, there was a fantastic atmosphere in the bar. Granted the hotel is rough around the edges but the soul of the hotel is with the staff and how happy the guests were upon checkout. Margaret and staff went to all lengths to make sure we had a happy and comfortable stay! The rooms were everything we needed comfortable, clean and was actually fairly quiet! The food was delicious - I got the chicken burger on our first night and it was amazing! Kudos to the new chef on site! After a full on sporting day on Saturday, the full Irish breakfast on Sunday morning set us up for the drive home! The staff were extremely attentive and were very patient with us (10 in our group)! I would absolutely stay at the Strand Hotel again, a great gem of Achill! Just to note that the previous reviews dont do this hotel any justice! Please go and experience it for yourself! But remember your not booking The Ritz!

Stunning beach views , with great holiday activities to do everyday.

The family room was perfect, very spacious and great value for money.

For a family room, they could consider building a bath into the bathroom.

old neglected basic hotel

This is a very tired and neglected hotel. lacks the bare basics you would expect. what you get is a neglected worn bed with clean sheets and a towel. def not a single extra. No hot water until morning in any part of hotel, hotel cold and damp. No tea/coffee etc

no hot water, no tea/coffee facilities in room. room old damp and needs a lot of care.

Superb

We stayed for two nights at The Strand Hotel and was accomadated so well. I booked the two nights individually(my mistake), the hotel rung me before we checked in and asked if we'd like to be kept in the same room for both nights, which, with four children we really appreciated. We had an issue with our heater and it was sorted straight away. Definitely brilliant value for money. Will be booking again!

There was no food available due to staff shortages. Staff are working hard to keep the place going and are very friendly & accommodating. 1 minute walk to a fab beach. Room clean & Sheets & towels clean and fresh.

first and last time in this place

Mag and Kelvin they were amazing!! Very kind and attentive, the view to the beach is amazing

late for check-in, we spent almost two hours waiting for the rooms to be ready, they had a problem with the employees and said they wouldn't serve dinner, in the end they did prepared dinner. Some employees you could clearly see that they had a drink. Breakfast supposed to be served at 9am, we were there with the group but unfortunately no one showed up make the breakfast, we had to look for another place to eat...a total lack of respect. Unacceptable!!!
