A wonderfully cosy pub in a beautiful location. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and made our stay really special. Wide selection of drinks at the bar and the food, both for dinner and for breakfast, was exceptional.
Nothing.

The location is beautiful and the food in the pub is surprisingly good. We actually went back for lunch after we checked out.
The carpet in the hallway is a bit dirty and the bathroom is a bit small.

Lovely room, nice bed, very nice quiet village, and we were made feeling very welcome with yummy fresh chocolate cookies in the room.
The breakfast was very good, we really enjoyed our stay!
We liked everything.

A little noisy during opening hours in the rooms

Staff where lovely. The old part of the pub was lovely and cosy by the fire. Bed was very comfy but small. Very clean. Nicely decorated bedrooms. Food was lovely.
Window in bathroom did not close properly in room 2 so it was quite chilly. It was very noisy Friday evening from the pub which I suppose is expected. You could her all the noise from other room and downstairs when you was in your room. Bed was bit too small.

We arrived late on Friday evening, ten minutes before our table booking, and check in was very quick, with very friendly bar staff. The room was beautiful, with homemade cookies (which were amazing) and fresh milk for coffee the next day (little things like this make such a difference). We had a beautifully cooked dinner in the pub (and very reasonable in price too, for the quality), and then a very good night's sleep. The shower was great the next morning, and the view outside the pub was just delightful.
Breakfast exceeded all expectations. The chef is a proper chef, not just a cook. I had porridge followed by the most perfectly cooked poached egg on avocado toast, and my husband had the full English, which he reported was top quality. Even the condiments are homemade by the owner's mum, he said.
I could not fault anything about this place. We stayed better only because we wanted to go walking in the Peaks the following day, but we've found an absolute gem which I'm absolutely sure we'll return to.
Nothing! Apart from being slightly closer to our home so we can go more often!

The staff were amazing, especially Louise. The food was exceptional, all local produce. Really nice rooms , excellent bedding and towels. The pub has a great history and is unspoilt in parts. One of the best things was the welcoming community, we felt like one of the locals. Nothing was too much trouble and we would all return here and recommend.
The bed was a small double and whilst really comfortable my personal preference is a bit larger.

Another lovely stay at the Black Lion. Staff are so friendly, and the atmosphere is very laid back. Great walk and then a hearty Sunday lunch.
