Gorgeous house, amazing city. Uta is an accommodating, helpful, and cool host and helped make my stay great.
The bed isnt the most comfy, but i slept great anyhow.

We enjoyed the art. It was very eclectic. We were glad we stayed here as it gave us an insight into some of Detroit's neighbourhoods that we wouldn't have gotten if we had stayed downtown.
We had read in other reviews how lovely Ute is and so we were disappointed not to have met her.

Upon arriving at this property the owner was not there and we let ourselves in, it was just not as described and not for us. the first area we saw looked like a very untidy, dirty garage, upon entering the property the same just flowed just not a nice comfortable vibe. No aircon, area did not feel very safe.

Artistic. Adventurous. Vibrant. Peaceful! Nice coffee shop nearby.

Curious, well-kept, and fun place to stay

Let's be honest, this place is not for everybody. It's a quiet neighborhood that is just starting to come out of despair. The property is older and you rent a bedroom that is quite small. But if you're a little more adventurous and you dig art, it's cool. If you're an artist who has hit the road on a tight budget, you're going to love it. If you're more of a luxury hotel traveler, you're not going to dig it.
I thought it was great. It was an experience until itself.
Small bed, but the room wasn't much bigger than a California king. It's ok, because I like sleeping with my GF.

We were in Detroit to see art and experience the alternative cultural scene. Our host is connected in the local community of up and coming artists. She told us about an art opening during the two evenings we were in town (weekday!) places to go to hear music, and other activities and locations. She made our very short visit much more exciting than we would have had on our own. She had a casual style but communicated clearly and quickly. The location was an easy drive from lots of places. We had a car. Parking was also easy. The neighborhood was by no means bustling and upscale but we felt very safe and we were close to lots of interesting places. I felt that we saw the genuine Detroit. All of the things that we expected to work (shower, sink, etc) did work just fine. We had an extra heater to beef up the house furnace and we were cozy. If you like artsy, funky places (we do!) this is the place.
My husband would have liked a couple of extra hangers and a larger surface or our large suitcases. We did have a small desk/ table in the room already. We were fine with it, but if you are a neatnik, you might not feel comfortable. There's a lot going on and it is an old house.

The host was hospitable and offered a lot of local info. The location is nice. Free use of the kitchen which was appreciated. Grocery store nearby.
The shower knob was broken off and difficult to use. The space was crowded with the host’s esoteric art work, even lined up in the hallway against the walls. The bedding and towel were thin. I thought it was way too expensive given everything

Uta was an amazing host! Always willing to help and share. The Arthouse is literally an Arthouse. Art can be seen everywhere - inside and out. Uta is great at communicating! She also took me on a night out with a friend, so much fun! The location is close to museums, bars/underground spots and a main street. There is a bus line as well.
The kitchen area bothered me a bit as it could be more organized/clean. Many little nats and smells, hard to eat in there. Also ants. Unsure if it's the heat or not. Other than that no complaints.
