Such a beautiful building in wonderful grounds. Very peaceful inside and out. Great breakfast; friendly helpful member of staff, nothing too much trouble. Highly recommend.

The breakfast under heated lights was OK, however we would have preferred a freshly cooked breakfast.
The venue is first class and very peaceful.

Lovely location, within 3min walk into town (which was pretty upmarket and busy).
The hotel is literally in the old abbey buildings and is full of historic features, paneling everywhere and stone work any stonemason would be proud of. Staff very helpful, I was in the room 3 hours early.
This is absolutely minor, but no TV, I see the reason (the hotel's main business is acting as a retreat, and lets rooms to the public when available). As a single traveller I like the company of a TV.
4.0
Excellent breakfast, friendly staff and great location. Incidentally very good WiFi. Whalley is a busy village with lots going on, besides walking in the Abbey grounds.
No TV, but considering it’s also billed as a religious retreat then that was not a surprise; and to be honest the lack of a TV was not a big deal.
3.0
Set in an extremely beautiful abbey converted to a Manor House. This is a Christian retreat that offers Bed and Breakfast to all. But it mainly serves people attending the religious retreat. The accommodation is very basic. No television in the room and a simple set of furniture. This B&B is quite open about its target audience and does not pretend to compete with a leisure hotel. The staff are simply lovely, but the are obviously part of the retreat team. No bar and no restaurant of the type you would expect in a hotel. Booking.com is quite wrong in describing this venue as a hotel, it isn’t and doesn’t pretend to be one. If you are looking for a hotel, this is not for you. A very simple and honest B&B with no frills. We actually drove away saying that was different, but not unpleasant. Excellent for a very quiet and contemplative retreat.
That Booking.com were not honest about the description. NOT a hotel, despite calling it one.

Staff were friendly, helpful and catered to every request (early check in, somewhere to get changed ahead of a wedding, code to get back late etc).
Comfortable, beautiful rooms in a stunning building.
Nothing I didn’t like. Small suggestion for improvement - unless you’re arriving at the abbey for the retreat or discipleship centre, it’s not very obvious you’ve arrived at accommodation. I spent a while thinking I was in the wrong place!

The location in the grounds of Whalley Abbey was superb. The room had a beautiful view of the gardens, and it was very quiet. It was a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to stay.

Quiet and peaceful
Not didn't like but would have liked to know before hand that it was a Christian Retreat

Whalley Abbey is a beautiful historic building both inside and the ruins surrounding the main house. The fact that the Abbey is a Christian retreat came as a surprise, but for hotel guests that just made for a quiet and peaceful experience. Breakfast was a basic full English buffet, but very edible.
The only omission compared to normal hotels was the lack of TVs, but this is offset by good WIFI. The one thing that did annoy was the very small shower cubicle. I could barely bend down to pick up my soap! And there was plenty of room for a cubicle twice the size.

The tranquillity and beauty of the setting brought relaxation. The substantial ruined remains of the mediaeval buildings - bar the church - reminded me of how much the wanton destruction of Henry VIII's policies robbed England of its heritage.
I found nothing to dislike - apart from Henry VIII.

It was different. Interesting. Very nice.

Lovely breakfast and all the staff were excellent. Interesting place to stay, a little different, very peaceful.
Slept on top floor with roof lights, the window coverings were inadequate and let all the light in.
Apart from that the room and bathroom were good.

Great location, spacious clean rooms, quiet.
Check in times are set.

Fan in bathroom a bit noisy. Would have liked a TV

Chilled out atmosphere and a lot of history surrounds the place.
A bit hard to find. No one at hand every so often to assist with a query or on check in.

The room and the building were beautiful, with a lovely reading lounge. Very historic withe a feeling of peace and serenity.
The door to our bedroom was a fire door with the bathroom across the corridor. It slammed shut if you didn't hold on to it carefully when the door was shutting. Woke my partner up during the night
