Dogs are an important part of Pilgrims Rest Cottages and are very welcome with Pilgrims Rest Cottages an historical winner of the best dog friendly business on the English Riviera and South Devon.

- Not letting you dog go on any furniture (if dog throws are brought, there can be
exceptions, but must be agreed at booking)

booking (the owners know that many dogs are fine on their own, and allow some
leeway here)
- Do not leave their dog to roam alone outside; being respectful of others who may be
staying at Pilgrims Rest
- Finally, as always pet owners are required to clean up after their pets and dispose of
pet mess in the bins provider in the car park.
- We do require a £50 refundable pet deposit which is refunded within 7 days after

The host Martin gave us a warm welcome, he checked up on us to make sure everything was ok during our stay. He is a really nice man. The property is beautiful, spacious, has lovely features, it was clean and absolutely perfect for our family holiday of 4 adults, 2 grandchildren and 2 dogs. We will be returning for sure.

Lovely owners and a warm welcome
We had a lovely family getaway at the Threshing Barn. We were made to feel very welcome and any issues we raised were sorted quickly and with a smile. Would definitely stay again.

Great accomodation for up to 8
The Old Threshing Barn is great accomodation for up to 8 people. IT is very comfortable and there is lots of room to spread out in the lounge, dining room and kitchen areas and 3 bathrooms, so less of a wait to get out in the morning. The kitchen is very well equiped for catering for a larger gathering with lots of large saucepans, serving dishes, etc. There is also WiFi and a large Smart TV with the possibility of logging in to your netflix, iPlayer, etc. There are some great local shops very close (a Tesco Express, a CoOp, a bakers and a chemist). A bigger ASDA and a big Sainsburys are a short car ride away. There is a bus that goes into Torquay or a short car ride. There are many things to do and see in the surrounding area. Just be aware that the spiral staircase takes a little getting used to and that there is a short walk from the car park.
Martin and Kim and family were very welcoming and very helpful. In particular, they kindly did some research for us and found lots of restuarants and cafes providing gluten free food.

Fabulous Break!
First trip away post-Covid with 3 generations of the family - we were greeted at the Threshing Barn by Martin and quickly settled in! The Barn is clean and spacious and very well equipped. We enjoyed lazy evenings in the Old Orchard with a G&T and ventured out during the day. All in all, super easy from end to end and a really lovely week had by all. Thank you Martin & Kim! Xxx

Great property for a family get together
We had a warm welcome from the owner Martin, and we were all delighted with the size and comfort of the property. There was ample space in all the bedrooms, and enough bathrooms/shower rooms for us all. There is a safe garden for the children to play in. The spiral staircase could be challenging, but we all got used to it. I thoroughly recommend this property.

Great place and good location
Perfect week away, place was a home from home and the furniture is of good quality, comfy beds and linen. The weather was mostly dry so made the most of visiting local beaches and places of interest. Nice pubs a short drive away for good food. It was dog friendly and walks locally were handy. Definitely recommend the place.

Perfect Stay in Torbay
Just arrived home from a very relaxing stay at Pilgrims Rest in Barton. We stayed, with friends, in the Threshing Barn and would thoroughly recommend as it is spacious and has everything you could possibly need. The accommodation itself is well kept, clean, cosy and comfortable; importantly in these times it also feels safe. The communication with our host, Martin, was both friendly and informative from first making an enquiry, right through booking, arrival and departure. Pilgrims rest is ideally situated in that it has local shops a quick walk away, close to a bus route, is within minutes drive of all the attractions that this part of Devon has to offer but far enough out of town to be able to enjoy the peace and quiet of the location. There are welcome folders with lots of ideas for activities and local walks. The walk to Babbacombe model village via the coast path followed up with lunch at Three Degrees West on Oddicombe Beach was a firm favourite. We will definitely be returning soon.

very comfortable and spacious property. The social spaces worked very well. You need a car or be prepared to travel by bus as the property is on the outskirts of Torquay.

Beautiful property , great location
The property is beautiful, well kept and well looked after. The spiral staircase could be a bit of a challenge as you get older( just a small warning regarding that) . The owner is very helpful and really goes out of his way to make your stay a good one. Lots to see and do in the area.

Next time 2 weeks!
We travelled as an extended family of 8, 4 adults and 4 children under the age of 8, and 1 friendly dog. We have family who live in and around the area so for us the location was spot on. Lots to see and do locally, many wonderful beaches and rivers just a short drive away and then you have beautiful Dartmoor too. Thankfully many cafes, tea rooms and takeaways were open with plenty of ice cream vans dotted around. The accommodation itself is well kitted out with absolutely everything we needed for our stay, if you’re stuck for ideas the owner has an impressive folder full of suggestions for family days out, pubs and restaurants. The kids absolutely loved playing in the pretty garden, we didn’t make use of the bbq this time but can’t wait to come back, for much longer next time!

Perfect in every way
What an absolute joy it was to stay here, it was simply perfect in every way. The host (Martin) was very helpful & friendly and communications held prior to arrival were really good. On arrival myself and my family were welcomed into the Threshing Barn and shown around, the bottle of red wine that was offered tasted delicious after a long journey.
The accommodation was true to form, as advertised. We found it be very clean, furnished to a very high standard. It has all the services, accessories and appliances that you wound ever need. The location itself was great, walking distances to many shops, pubs and more. The surrounding area is great to explore either on foot or by car (the barn holds a lot of information about the surrounding areas which was of great assistance)
If your looking to take your family away for a nice break for the week, look no further.
We will most certainly be going back for more!

Lovely barn conversion and very comfortable throughout. There was everything provided that we could possibly need.
As we were out most of the day we didn't put the TV on much. It had freeview and there were some DVDs to watch. The settees were so comfortable and cosy. The dining table seated 8 but we had 9 and a high chair. It was plenty big enough for us. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. The washer came in handy. There were 2 fridges , a freezer and plenty of cupboard space. We did a large Asda shop when we arrived and ate in every evening. We took a picnic with us during the daytime, having the freezer meant we had ice sheets to keep it fresh all day.
There was a toilet and shower downstairs and upstairs 2 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms. The beds were comfy and the linen clean and fresh. Towels were provided.
Martin our host was very friendly and provided endless information on walks beaches and places to eat. We had a Chinese takeaway on Martins recommendation for our last evening meal and it was the best I've tasted. A wonderful holiday location and plenty of room for a large family or friends.

It has been such a lovely place to stay. Comfortable, spacious rooms, very well equipped kitchen and a home away from home. Such a beautiful town full of friendly people with lots to do at the harbour. We recommend taking a visit to Brixham, a beautiful little town where we travelled to by boat which was very cheap and bought some fantastic fish and chips! If you are looking for a home from home then this is the place to relax and unwind and take in your surroundings. Thank you for your warm welcome, bottle on wine and cake, it was a lovelt touch. Summer (2 ½ years old) loved it and called it “heaven” and wants to come back! Thank you again.

The barn looked lovely on the internet and was; nice accommodation and nice welcome. Martin was very approachable and would do anything for you. There were plenty of places to find and what we enjoyed the most was Goodrington beach, which had water slides and places to go for food and drink. Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic!!!! Martin and Kim (owners) have created the perfect base for a family holiday in Torbay. The personal touches made all the difference to our stay as we felt immediately welcome which in turn made us relax. We could not have chosen better accommodation and feel so lucky to have found you! Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you again next year

We chose Pilgrims Rest because of the quality of the internet site and the quality of the accommodation. 42/42 on your questionnaire shows Threshing Barn lived upto both for us; excellent all round. We loved taking our young ones (3.5yrs and 4mths) for drives around the area; the barns are in a perfect location to explore bigger towns and smaller villages. Small coves and bigger beaches are in abundance with some lovely eateries like Cary Arms. Thank you for being so welcoming and providing us with ideas of where to visit.

Our third time in Threshing Barn. Loved as much as before with a much needed pre-Christmas chill out!! Simply very peaceful, home from home. As usual plenty to do – Paignton Zoo, Buckfast Abbey and the Christmas Fayre at Cockington Court were fun this time. Martin, as before, always makes us feel welcome and there if needed. See you soon.
