Fairly spacious room, albeit slightly dated. Really close to multiple bus transit routes, making it easy to get around. The hotel is located a less than 5min walk from Niko Castle, and around a 20min walk from Nishiki Market.

I don’t know why recent reviews were poor. The hotel staff were very polite and helpful. The foyer area is beautiful and has a welcoming piano bar and restaurants. Our room was large with enough space for 3 people and a big bathroom. The motel is across the road from Nijo castle and there is a steady stream of taxis taking guests into downtown Kyoto. Definitely worth a look.

This is a clean hotel with full amenities. Its location is close to the subway station and various tourist attractions in Kyoto. There is a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station. The breakfast is filled with high-quality ingredients and a mix of Western and Japanese cuisine. If you need to check out of the hotel before the restaurant opens, don’t forget to ask the hotel to prepare a snack box for you. You will be surprised by the grandeur of the snack box here. If you are looking for accommodation, this is a very good option.

Only two floors were renovated, not all. And of course, we were put in the ones that were not. So, I talked to the manager and they switched us, but charged us more. I argued that didn’t make any sense.
Their “Sky Bar” is an unfinished rooftop with grass color plastic carpet, a few plastic white tables and 3 plants. The view is nice though.

Lovely staff. Good size rooms. Smoking rooms available as of july 2024
4.3
A good hotel with fantastic staff, but it is really becoming old and desperatly in need of a total make-over
4.3
Very outdated hotel, needs a major renovation. Not a terrible stay, but would not recommend. This is not a 4-star hotel, more like 2.5 stars. There is carpet in the bathroom, I repeat, carpet in the bathroom.
4.3
Excellent in every way. Top-quality buffet breakfast. Great location. The pool/onsen wanted to charge, but they waived it for guests.
4.3
Thanks for the hotel gave me a room with the fantastic view of Niko castle. However, there was a sort of noise we could not find where it came from. The hotel kindly offered another room. Reception desk and catering services are also kind and helpful. Breakfast is superb. The facilities of gust rooms which I experienced are old, but the bed is comfortable. Staff are polite and helpful.

We enjoyed dining experiences at the hotel. Breakfast buffet was absolutely amazing.

Room was comfortable and clean. Very relaxing.

We booked on hotels.com and expected an updated two bed non smoking room. When we were checked in (visibly pregnant and with a child) we were given a room on the smoking floor that was so overwhelming Smokey we asked to be moved. The Smokey room and the room were moved to were on the lower floors and were no renovated. They were about 40 years out of renovation. In addition there was an additional fee for the pool and was just for lap swimming.
4.3
Hotel is in dire need of renovations and deep cleaning. There was mold in all of the nooks and crannies and the rooms were frozen in time from 1982. They had carpet in the bathroom.
4.3
Bathtub glass was not big enough. Water leaks on the bathroom floor.
4.3
Unfortunately the hotel is quite run down. It seems like it has been a solid place but these times are long gone.
It’s not possible to open the window, so the air can only be exchanged by air conditioner.
When we checked in, we noticed that the toilet in our room was not cleaned and to our horror there were also finger/toenails lying on the floor…. They gave us a new room..
All in all it’s an okay hotel but not for the price and it doesn’t deserve 4 stars.
4.3
This hotel is in sever need of renovation. The carpets are disgustingly dirty. You can see that the hall ways have not been even vacuumed in decades. The rooms and bathrooms show their age. If this hotel was in the US it would be a motel. They have shut down their bar and the whole ambiance is depressing.

Easy access to metro

Urgently requie update to the property. Facilities and deco are not up to modern day standard and needs. Smelly bathroom. Requested taxi for my departure. Was told that I could book with taxi app. Never had this response ever Insisted on hotel handling my request. The young man clearly annoyed and said he can't guarantee taxi will arrive on time.

A lovely place for tourists visiting Kyoto. We enjoy the hotel’s service!
4.3
Great location, but out dated. Some rooms are not renovated and have a poor odor.

I stayed with 7 friends who hadn't been to Japan before. They loved the friendly service and the comfort and location. We will stay there again. Great hotel and good value.
4.3
Fabulous helpful staff - great location - 2 mins from train - lots of small restaurants close by - my friends rec lunch @ French place in sSt beside hotel- good to c eco policy for linen - rare in Japan - will be back

Everything was Great. Staff, rooms, location, shopping and eating near by. The only bad thing was there was no bar for whiskey drinkers, luckily a 2 minute walk down the street at a different hotel had a bar.
4.3
Nice hotel near a metro stop and right across from Nijo Castle. Rooms were comfortable and breakfast every morning was very nice and convenient. We did have a 12 year old staying with us in our room and there was some confusion. They charged us for an additional adult in our room (totally fine) but didn't give him a breakfast coupon so the adults were able to have free breakfast but the child had to pay. Seemed odd. Also had to pay for use of the pool. And the lobby bar closed at 9pm which might be customary in Japan but surprised us. Other than that, we loved the location and amenities.

Very close to Castle, moderate walking distance to main subway hub but also good bus options and walking distance to manga museum. however room very dated. Staff at reception rude on arrival. room very dated with carpet in bathroom. Spa facilities were paid extra for but the bottom of the pool was rusty, hot spa was broken and leaking on the floor, really disappointing would not had paid if seen before. breakfast was good quality and filling. feels like a place that had its prime a few decades ago and would have been very grand then but needs a serious refurb especially as it asks for a higher price than other hotels because of the pool (which was then extra even for 5 year old and in terrible condition)

Hotel Employee are not good
4.3
A bit pricy and it will be good to make clear that the gym and pool facilities are for an extra cost. It’s my second time here but I will definitely explore other options. Breakfast is good!
4.3
3 out of 5 restaurants closed, corridors smell strongly of stale smoke. Hotel room is clean and functional but very dated, small and dark.
4.3
Nice and convenient in a beautiful location with a nice view of the castle.

Great, no problems. Great view.

the property was well situated and quiet area.

I'm confused as to how this hotel is rated 4 stars. The rooms were dirty/dusty/moldy, the decor was old and worn, and the bed mattresses sagged. The aircon never lowered the room temp below 23.5 even with the thermostat set to 20. Listening to the pipes rattle in walls at night which was the only way to drown out the noise from guests in other rooms. We were charged to use the pullout couch. We were charged you to use the pool, which requires swim caps. None of the pictures on Expedia showed the reality of the room we had. The lobby is gorgeous however, so maybe that's how they get that extra star or two. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, but they can't really help to change the quality of the ancient mattresses, the smell of cigarette smoke in the hallways, or the charges for the pool/fitness area. There was a power-strip attached haphazardly to the bedside table which had burn marks on it. I asked one front desk member where to go for ramen for dinner, and he had no suggestions other than the hotel restaurants which were not family friendly. Maybe the staff is rusty from three years of lockdown, but it seemed to me that although they were friendly, they weren't empowered to improve the guest experience. This is at best an overpriced budget hotel with a stunning lobby. Completely the opposite of our experience at the ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo. I will ask about when the room was last refurbished/remodeled before I stay at an ANA property again. Sadly disappointed.

Quiet and clean
- Rather expensive in hotel restaurants -

Seems like the property needs some updating especially in the room hallways and room. The bed was not very comfortable and had strange pillows.
4.3
Good property and room size. We stayed in a long size bedroom. The room was clean and spacious. However, the bathroom was old and molding. The sink and bath tub was pealing. We could smell the mold. The shower was decent. The rooms showed its age. Felt a bit dated.
4.3
Travel from NY the hotel is very nice. I only stayed 2 nights, arriving only to sleep, I did not have the opportunity to enjoy its surroundings. What I could verify is that the WIFI internet service is very bad. I had to attend to some work issues and it was not possible for me.
4.3
Very old and sated rooms
4.3
Water fall feature was lovely. Room was dated and carpeting was badly stained. A/C inefficient. Rude Buffett staff. Very overpriced all property restaurants. Sauna required extra fee. Was charged additional 400 yen /day amenities fee upon checkout. Unsure for what amenities were being charged. Very dissatisfied.
