Lovely place great breakfast
We stayed in the family suite it was really lovely apart from the low ceiling we did bang our heads a few times but overall a great stay
Very friendly staff

Close to national park.
Beautiful scenery and little roads.
Comfortable, quiet room!! Top grade toiletries

We had a lovely stay here in the family suite on the top floor. The ceilings are low for those that are tall. However, it worked out well for us. The rooms were clean. The included breakfast was delicious and the restaurant for dinner was excellent as well.

Lovely rooms and food was fab.

We were deeply unsatisfied with our stay at The Lion. Firstly we were misled by the Expedia hotel profile as it stated that we were 7 minutes away from Brecon Beacons - we were in actual fact 50 minutes away. The itinerary advised our check out was at noon, whilst the staff were trying to kick us out at 10am.
The hotel was dirty, the rooms seemed like it hadn't been hoovered in a while. The bathroom floors were dirty, there was dust everywhere. The fan was blowing out dust. The mugs in the room were stained. The staff made us feel like we were in the way and so very unwelcome. Only the two staff at breakfast were pleasant to us, the rest had such a bad attitude that we ended up remaining in our room. The sauna was not working, the loungers were barely warm and the steam room had a glass of alcohol in it. The food was very expensive and didn't have a great vegetarian option. Most of the vegetarian and dessert options were made with alcohol. All in all, it was such a disappointment and we do not recommend.

Second time staying, won't be last its a great place.

Nope. Didn’t like it

Great spot for access to local paraglider sites. Awesome breakfast. Rea coffee

Room was clean but some attention to detail needed. Curtain pole fell down on opening curtains. Shower tray overflowed. Limited space around overlarge sink. Nowhere to put wash bag when in use. Bed comfy. Room quiet.

Great staff, food drink, room, shower, and awesome bteakfast

Can't fault anything

Very friendly staff, very quick and easy check in and out. Had an evening meal which was excellent. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds with nice selection of toiletries. Enjoyed our stay

One of our party came down with Covid. The entire hotel staff has been gracious and extremely accommodating as we had to extend our stay. Can’t imagine a more welcoming place to be.
The rooms are basic but comfortable.
4.2
Great reception shown to room, comfortable bed nicely furnished with deck to work at. Good shower and fantastic service at breakfast. What more could you need!
4.2
Food in restaurant was fine. Our problems were with the room allocated. We were in the loft area so there was limited head height which was a problem getting in and out of bedroom. The bathroom was spacious but had a tiny sink with a tap which fitted over half the depth of the sink so utilising the sink was difficult for an adult.

The place may not look much when you turn up but it provided one of my more pleasant stays on the road. The room was finished to a good spec and the bed was so very comfortable affording one of the best night's sleeps I have had away from home. I had shops within walking distance and parking was convenient.
The real star of the stay was the breakfast which is included. The ingredients were of a very high quality and you can tell they were sourced locally with the bacon being the standout. Service provided was great and I was found a fan on request. Would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

We have had better, but we would go back because its central to where we like to go. The staff were very good and the room was clean but we were very disappointed with breakfast. I was given toast completely burnt on one side, not toasted the other. The cook and server must have seen this. One day the fried tomato tasted bad. One day the sausages were pink in the middle. After asking, we were given extra toast. which came on the breakfast plate .therefore soggy. We were not offered butter and marmalade to go on it. The tea was very week and only given one tea bag each.So i supplied my own. One day they had no orange juice even though co op was just down the road. The room was dark with dark wallpaper. Very small TV high up to give you neck ache. The toilet seat was hanging by a thread, as was the bath tap. The town is interesting. but most shops closed, unloved and dirty. boys doing wheelies on motorbikes with no numberplates. Lovely people in the Musium, shops. Iron Works. and Big Pit .

Quaint location. Our room had not been thoroughly cleaned (ex. dirt in the carpet, hair and dust all over the chair and desk). The breakfast was very nice, but not enough to overlook the dirtiness of the room. Not entirely sure why it is rated as a 4-star hotel.

Great location, charming little building with modern touches. Friendly staff.

Nice place ideal for what we needed. Really good breakfast.

Always a pleasure staying here. Clean, comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Never any noise at night and the bedrooms are well appointed.
Breakfast is always fantastic with quality produce.

The write up states air con but there isn’t any. This was a huge part of our decision to stay here so very disappointing as it’s 29 degrees outside.
Also it states water in the room, robes and black out blinds. We didn’t have these either. Plus no WiFi code anywhere to be found.
So disappointing as this is a nice little pub with rooms. We had our evening meal and breakfast here and the food is exceptional.
Be honest about what you offer, don’t over promise and underdeliver

Plenty of parking in free car parks or on the road directly outside. Staff were ok, you have to check in at the bar which was very busy when I arrived. I struggled with 2 bags, a very wet coat and an umbrella but no offer to help me carry anything. She pointed me in the direction of my room. It would of been nice if she’d helped me with the doors. As I was soaked from the rain I got straight in the lovely, spacious, modern, warm shower. When getting out and sitting on the bed I discovered my tv had no signal and there was no WiFi code in the room either. Also no phone to ring down and ask. As I wasn’t going to get dressed and dry my hair to walk into a very busy bar I had to spend my evening with neither. Lots of tea, coffee and shortbread in the room. The bed was soooo comfortable, and even though my room overlooked the road it was perfectly quiet. No blackout curtains or air con which were both stated but luckily I didn’t need either. Most of the room was spotless however the headboard and lamp were thick with dust. Breakfast was delightful, freshly cooked, great sausages, best scrambled egg I’ve had in a hotel. Cereal was available too. With a couple of minor improvements it could be excellent. I would stay again.

great service and great food will definitely use again

Stay was ok. Room seemed small for price, heating didn’t seem to work but found an electric heater and the TV had no signal. Breakfast was really good and a decent portion to set you up for the day.

Enjoyed my short stay at this hotel. Friendly Staff and clean well appointed room. I will certainly go back to stay again. Breakfast was delicious. Thanks

The food and service was very good. We were in a loft coversion, very well finished but it had limitations, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. We were pleasantly surprised with scenic high moors above the town crossing over from Abergavenny.
4.2
Comfortable enough hotel. Food was decent and facilities reasonable.Could do with some attention to customer service. Room was not cleaned when originally requested. Staff were pleasant and efficent enough without being overly welcoming.

Room was a little tired. However was ok for a one night stay. Friendly staff and food was good. Breakfast was limited but freshly cooked.

I had a warm greeting and easy check in with additional local advice. Really lovely refurbished room. Great breakfast choices too.

I was happy with the customer service until I heard a member off mocking me to other staff members! Not acceptable! Restaurant was nice. Room was not that clean. Some of the lights didn’t work but didn’t feel like I could go back down after the staff member being so rude.I’ve tried to be fair with my review but I’m very disappointed to say the least
