About this house rental
The historic home of shipping and grain baron George G. Barnum was built in 1910. The home was built large enough to showcase art collected by Mr Barnum as he traveled the world, and accommodate the friends he acquired along his storied lifetime. With an eye on the historical features of both the house and man, this one of a kind location has undergone a dramatic transformation to become a luxury boutique hotel. The GG Barnum combines its rustic Northern Minnesota history with modern amenities for an authentic and unforgettable stay in the Zennith City. Situated on a dead-end street adjoining Oregon Creek in the quiet Congdon mansion neighborhood, The GG Barnum Boutique Hotel is equally suited for business or pleasure.
The Pilot House Suite is a cozy corner suite that boasts a large private deck running along the back side of the house, a state of the art Samsung Picture Frame SmartTV that displays beautiful works of art, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and access to Netflix for your comfort and convenience.
Venture out of your private space and enjoy the shared living areas, grab a game for some play time, pull a book from our custom built book shelf for a little down time, or just spend quality time with your traveling companion. The living and dining areas feature a beautiful grand piano, large dining space, and plenty of places to sit and relax. Our favorite spot, and one of the more remarkable areas of the home, is the three season, impeccably decorated, enclosed porch, make sure to spend a little time here (this is a 3 season space and is not heated in the winter months). There are so many beautiful spaces for you to enjoy you may just find yourselves staying in for your vacation.
Enjoy the benefits of our newest addition added January 2024, a custom built Heritage Cedar Sauna. Located in our backyard this Barrel Sauna can fit up to 4 people.

It was good

The room was very small. Door to patio would not open. Overall home was lovely. Communication was good.

Loved the Pilot House suite, clean and cozy. Great private patio. Rest of the house was immaculate. Will book that suite again for sure

The property was great. Easy self check in process. The room was charming and nicely decorated. The neighborhood was packed with beautiful old homes and was quiet. Having access to streaming services in the room was appreciated. The noise transfer between rooms is pretty significant, it’s an old house, thin walls. But we would stay again, we loved it!

I liked my stay, and the property manager and events coordinator were both very friendly and helpful. The location was very quiet - even had deer running through the neighborhood.
Everything was basically good to great with the location and property - and my only real complaint (which I did not complain about in the two days I stayed - which is on me) would be around the bathroom shower head. It didn't stay in place, and needed to really be a detachable wand style (IMO).
This didn't take away from my use, hence the lack of complaint to the property manager - but I do like to give an honest review.
If it makes a difference to those reading the above, I would stay here again - the property manager and other staff were very friendly, helpful and generally Mid-west nice people.

Ambiance and surrounding neighborhood was awesome. Character and charm were cozy. Pastries and coffee/tea were 😋 delicious.
Frustrated upon learning that VRBO is NOT Heritage Houses. Tried for a week to find a contact/someone to whom i could pay my bill. Upon arrival stood outside the front door a long time trying to discover/to find out how to enter. Finally another guest showed us a tiny "more" button at the bottom of the page. Next were two more interior doors, one would lock out guests and cleaners from access.
Asked repeatedly about the abundance of extra fees (which nearly doubled our final payment), received a "that's how it is!" Anticipate seven additional taxes!
My scariest moment was not when we nearly fell through the patios or decks, but was when I could NOT unlock the back sundeck door. Fire escapes were conveniently located, but rusty. I felt trapped.
There wasn't any closet, hangers or hooks. The decor was absolutely beautiful, but the light bulbs kept burning out. Even when the maintenance person replaced them, they simply shorted out 15 minutes later. We waited 10 minutes for hot water, but i forgave the old building for trying to stretch out into a multi motel from having been a single dwelling in its hey day.
Our stay was like the piano. The Young Chang piano is a magnificent piano, sadly out of tune.

My husband and I loved staying at the mansion. We stayed in the Pilot House Suite. The room was lovely, clean, and just perfect for us. I especially loved the private deck. Our only suggestion would be to add a little spot to hang clothing.
We would definitely stay again and recommend it to our friends and family. Oh, and the neighborhood is divine to walk through.

Cute room in a lovely mansion. We had everything we needed for a fun getaway weekend!

Loved the easy check in process, and the property was very cute! Enjoyed the private balcony.

All though the room was small and didn’t have hooks or a closet to hang coats or clothes it was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and the fireplace was a nice touch. There was also a outdoor patio off our room that would have been nice to use had it been warmer outdoors. We would definitely stay there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Pilot House room was perfect. Great space to relax.

check in process was easy, everything was exactly like the pictures! My best friend and I stayed here for a little weekend trip before we go back to college and it was perfect!
4.6
Our stay was perfect - easy check in, fast wifi, a comfortable and clean room, lots of character in the home, a library stocked with books and games, and even muffins and coffee in the mornings. One thing that would make it perfect would be more storage in the room. There wasn’t a place to hang our coats or any drawers for our things, and the pedestal sink didn’t leave much room for toiletries. A simple storage solution would make a huge difference.

We loved this place and would stay again. Nice and clean, quiet and easy and safe to access. We also enjoyed the public space and decor. Nicely done!

ROOM needs somewhere to hang a few clothes and/or coats. Hooks would work. Also, consider offering disposable shoe covers at the door instead of asking guests to go in their stocking feet. Especially if the weather is wet. We loved the room and house!
