Hodroyd Hall is a beautiful, grade II listed private country house in the picturesque hamlet of Felkirk, in West Yorkshire. The earliest reference to Hodroyd is in 1144 and the Hall is steeped in history from its days as a monastic building, to the country seat of the Monckton family, Today, it is once again a family home and offers a unique combination of country house tradition with the informality of family life. The impressive property boasts a fabulous hall with sweeping staircase, a library, lounge area, snug, formal dining area, an orangery large kitchen breakfast room plus many more rooms to explore. There are six beautiful bedrooms at Hodroyd Hall, all unique and with their own story. Guests will be able to stay in the Cromwell Room where Oliver Cromwell reputedly convalesced during the Civil War, or relax in The Queen’s Chamber, where legend has it that Mary Queen of Scots rested during her journey to Fotheringay Castle.
The Berrie Suite is named after the strawberries that were grown on site in the 1640’s - the earliest recorded cultivation in Yorkshire! The outside of the property offers guests a courtyard area to enjoy the Summer sun and a landscaped garden to relax in. You can’t fail to enjoy your stay at Hodroyd Hall, as everything is on your door step whether you want activities, entertainment, retail, countryside, or culture. For those wanting to blow the cobwebs away, Pugneys Water Park is 15 minutes away, where you can take sailing courses, hire boats or ride a miniature railway.
Carlton Marsh Nature Reserve is also just 5 minutes away and Fitzwilliam Country Park is 15 minutes away. Fitzwilliam train station has free car parking from where you can travel to Wakefield, Leeds or Sheffield in 30 minutes. If you want to go further afield, York, Skipton, and Scarborough are easily reachable. If going by car there are many local attractions, including the world-renowned Hepworth Gallery, Wentworth Castle, Pontefract Castle, Wakefield Castle, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and Cannon Hall; all can be reached in just 20 minutes, meaning you really are spoilt for choice. In nearby Wakefield, you can enjoy the emerging food and craft ale scene or visit for the rhubarb festival. Finally, slightly further afield a 30-minute drive will take you to the edge of the Peak District National Park and everything it has to offer. For more serious retail adventures the shopping centres of both Meadowhall and White Rose, Trinity Leeds are within easy reach. Newsagents 1½ miles, shops, supermarket 2½ miles, pub ¾ mile and restaurant 4 miles.
