Hatfield house is on a slope and accommodation is arranged over two floors with bedrooms and garden below and living accommodation above with entrances at both levels.
The main entrance takes you straight into a spacious and cheerful country kitchen/ diner with original wide floorboards, fitted aqua green units and pretty mosaic tiles. In Pride of place is a vast range style cooker with a 6 ring hob and 2 ovens. A large picture window has lively views of the Kennet and Avon Canal, Camden Crescent on the Northern slopes and, Bathwick Hill to the South. There is plenty of cooking and kitchen equipment, alongside a nespresso coffee maker (supplied with coffee pods) and a digital radio, for relaxed mornings lingering over the papers. The kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge and separate freezer, and a generous selection of seasonings along with some useful cookbooks. A large dining table seats up to 8 with a jolly selection of painted chairs.
The living room has glorious views of Bath city, featuring the Abbey, St Michael’s Church, The Empire buildings and Pulteney Bridge. This cosy room has an original cast iron fireplace stacked with logs to use on chilly evenings, a TV and DVD along with a good selection of books and films on alcove bookcases either side of the fire place. The furnishings are in fresh soft green linens, with a large sofa for 2, an armchair, a wide loveseat and a footstool.
At this level is a large family bathroom tiled in aqua green with a cast iron roll-top bath, a small corner shower, a hand basin and WC. Large original sash windows with working shutters overlook the garden.
Downstairs is light and spacious with a separate garden entrance. The main bedroom elegantly furnished in silver and green, has a 5’ king bed with two decorative chests of drawers on either side. Alcoves beside the window have shelves with a selection of novels, a hanging rail and storage shelf. An etched glass door leads to a compact, fully tiled wet room with a hand basin and WC at one end and a comfortable showering area at the other with a tiled shelf space for toiletries.
A large comfortable twin room in pale grey and orange with a big fluffy rug and armchair has two single 3’ beds which can zip together to become a 6’ super king bed, a chest of drawers, a writing bureau and an alcove with built in wardrobe providing plenty of hanging space. Two windows here have views into the garden and towards Widcome as well as views of the city through the trees.
A pretty single room in soft grey and turquoise has a single 3’ bed with cast iron bed, a chest of drawers, digital radio, hanging rail and small bench with some storage under. A large window has bright views into the garden.
A utility cupboard at this level has a washing machine with plenty of shelf space for laundry and towels.
Outside is a large level family garden. Sunny and protected, it is a natural sun-trap, with a good sized lawn for games, a couple of sun loungers, a BBQ and an outdoor table and seating for 8 overlooking the canal.
There is a designated parking space for 1 car a 10 minute walk from the property - **available until March 2024 only**. You can pull up at the front of the property to unload and load but please be aware the lane up to the property is very narrow and it is difficult to turn around at the end if there are cars parked at the end. The nearest long stay car park is Avon Street Car Park, which is a 15 minute stroll away.
The local facilities in Widcombe Parade are very good and include a newsagent, chemist, coffee shop, hairdressers, florists, and several pubs, restaurants and Indian, Chinese and American takeaways. There is a convenience store only a minutes’ walk from the property at the start of Widcombe Parade. The footpath bridge after Widcombe parade takes you to the train station and the start of Bath high street where you will find numerous shops, restaurants, bars and Marks and Spencers for your food shop. The City has many historic sites and museums and galleries. Nearby National Trust owned Prior Park Gardens has a lovely walk to a palladium bridge, or explore rural footpaths across the hills above Widcombe for flower filled meadows, hidden churches, manor houses and stunning views of Bath - part of the Bath Skyline walk. Bath Narrowboats rent barges and bikes to explore the city or the Kennet and Avon canal and towpath. After all the activity, pamper yourselves in the piping hot pools of the Thermae Spa, or enjoy a night at The Theatre Royal or Komedia Comedy Club.

Wonderful few days … perfect location near to bath city center and fantastic views … thank you!

Great location, although signposting to front door could be better. Clean and well maintained. Lovely views of Bath.

Comfortable beds, all the appliances and equipment you could need and a great location. Parking is a walk away, but it worked well.
I would have given five stars, but the place is overdue a deep clean. Sinks, sanitary ware and surfaces were fine, but there were dust bunnies in the nooks and crannies, stains on floor rugs and a musty smell to the cushions. Outdoor area needed mowing.

The property is beautiful and in a great location. Very clean with a good garden and wonderful views across Bath. The parking situation (a common problem in Bath) was not ideal with multiple vehicles, but no other complaints all.

Lovely property, exactly as described. Easy walking distance to bath centre.

beautiful house in great location
We loved this house which was in a beautiful location with great views over Bath. It is in a quiet location but within walking distance from the centre and some great canal walks. We had some problems with the showers at the property but the managers were great and did their best to sort it out. I would definitely stay again.

We all enjoyed staying in this lovely property. The kids loved the staircase cubby hole; we loved the easy walk into town. The winter views were gorgeous. The only (minor) drawback is the parking well away from the property - all else was excellent, including the thoughtful welcome food package.

This was a beautiful house in a great location. Had we stayed there in the summer it would have been perfect. Unfortunately, the house was freezing. Even with the heating at full blast we had to sit I. The living room wrapped up in our duvets. The log fire was on but the heat was sapped out. There were drafts through the windows and floor boards and the walls were like ice. Adding to that the showers did not work properly. The water was freezing cold or scalding with no in between. And the scalding water didn’t last long either.
Having said all of the above, it was a lovely house and felt very homely in the evenings. Just bitterly cold. Like I said, had our stay taken place during the summer, it would have been perfect.

The house is lovely, clean and in a great location. If you want to cook it's also well set up. The only thing I'd say is that it's quite compact so if you have young children be aware that you'll be able to hear everything! But our kids loved it - "the upside-down house" with bedrooms downstairs and living areas upstairs..

Hatfield House in Widcombe
This property worked well for four adults and two children (one, an infant). The views were impressive; there was a nice fenced in yard for the children; the kitchen was big enough for everyone, plus a few guests. In addition, Widcombe has some very nice restaurants and cafes - and Bath central is only a short walk away.

Great experience in Bath Area
We really enjoyed our 5 day stay here. Good location in the Village of Widcombe. Easy walk to all Bath attractions plus bonus of the charm of Widcombe itself. The house was comfortable and well stocked. We appreciated the extras-coffee, milk, granolas, cookies, etc. - left for us. The managers/owner were always available and very helpful. Would definitely stay again.

Great stay in Bath
Very nice and convenient house with garden in Bath. Very close to the train station, 10 minutes ride to Bristol. Nice walks along the canal and in the area. Good restaurant, the white hart right down the road. We had a great stay and recommend the Hatfield house!!!!

Excellent all round.
Lovely property, fantastic location with everything we needed.

Delightful cottage, great location
Lovely Georgian cottage with fantastic views of Bath. Ideal location as very easy to walk into centre of Bath for sightseeing and eating. Downside - cottage is in a tiny lane with very tight parking spaces. Lots of scrapes on neighbours cars as proof of how difficult it is to get in and out. However, you can use a designated space 5 mins walk away on the drive of a nearby house - much safer option to use this.
