About this apartment rental
The back unit of a duplex, this property was built in 2016. We started offering it as a vacation rental in the summer of 2018. Park your car in the garage (a huge plus since street parking is so hard to find!) and walk to the beautiful beach, bars, restaurants, grocery store and shopping!
This beach property is ideal for two couples or a small family. There are two bedrooms with King sized beds and by using an airbed in the common area, we can have a maximum of 5 guests. Although kids are welcome, please be aware that there are stairs and no baby gates installed and we haven't child-proofed this house at all.
Pristine and air conditioned, this 2 bedroom/2 bath 1220 sq ft beach house has a gorgeous kitchen with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances including a gas range, microwave, refrigerator with filtered water and an ice maker and a KitchenAid dishwasher. The kitchen island serves as the dining table and accommodates up to 4 people.
The comfortable living room has an expansive sectional sofa, 55” tv (wifi, cable, apple tv) and cozy gas fireplace.
The larger of the two bedrooms and a full bathroom are on the first floor. The master bedroom, which is a bit smaller, and attached master bath are on the second floor. The master bath has double sinks, a beautifully tiled shower, separate room for the commode and a walk-in closet.
The private roof deck is a fantastic spot offering peek-a-boo ocean views, two fire pits, a comfy sectional sofa and chaise lounge chairs. It’s a great place for soaking up the sun or having a cocktail in the evening.
We also have a one bedroom/one bathroom listing for the front unit in the duplex- it’s a bright and sunny 700 sq ft apartment with a compact, yet complete kitchen, great little bathroom, bedroom with Cal King bed and also tons of built-in storage and a large private deck with BBQ. If you need that extra bedroom, or would prefer the additional privacy that an air mattress in the living room can’t afford, you may want to inquire with us about booking both places. General Info:
Garage Parking: You will have use of the right side of the garage and may park 1 car. Although the garage is longer than most, it is narrow (only 18' wide) as many are in Newport Beach. Since you are sharing the garage with the guests of the other unit, please be very careful not to ding the other car next to yours. There is an arched garage door so large SUVs and pick-ups will not fit. For example, a Suburban, Escalade or a Tahoe are all too tall and too wide. Please do not try to make your car fit if you have one of these types of vehicles. They are not allowed in the garage. If your vehicle is a pick-up or a super large SUV, you will need to find on-street parking-that is not negotiable. If in doubt whether your vehicle is allowed in the garage, please contact me and I can let you know.
Beds: First floor bedroom has a Cal King bed. Second floor bedroom has an Eastern King bed. Twin airbed and Pack n Play available upon request.
Linens: Linens, blankets, pillows, bath towels, kitchen towels and beach towels are all provided.
Kitchen/Supplies: The kitchen is super well supplied with dishes, cookware, silverware, blender, toaster oven, slow cooker, a Keurig and lots of spices. We will supply some paper products to get your vacation started, however you may need to supplement or replenish the paper supplies during your stay. Also, bring your favorite K-cups for the Keurig! We will have some K-cups on hand for you but, if you’re a coffee lover, you’ll want to have more!
BBQ: Located just outside the kitchen door. BBQ tools are in the drawer below the oven.
Extra Stuff: To help make your vacation extra special, bicycles, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, beach wagons, ice chest, corn hole boards, bocci balls and a surfboard are all available for your enjoyment. If the other unit has guests staying while you are there, the "extra stuff" will be available on a first come, first served basis. All amenities, "extra stuff", is for the use of authorized guests only. Visitors are not allowed to make use of anything provided in the garage.
Laundry: A full size, stackable washer/dryer is located in the unit on the second floor. Laundry detergent and Bounce sheets are provided.
Cell Phone Note: the cell coverage in this unit is sketchy, especially if you have Verizon. I actually switched to AT&T because of the lack of coverage here. You'll likely need to go outside or on the roof deck to make/receive calls if you have Verizon. One easy work-around is to hook up to our wifi while in the house and text/call over that. But I want to be sure all are aware of that possible concern.
RULES and RENTAL AGREEMENT:
In order to confirm a reservation made on this site, Guest must (i) acknowledge receipt and review of the Rental Agreement and provide the Host with either online or written approval of the Rental Agreement within 24 hours of making reservation and (ii) your deposit must have been received by VRBO. For final confirmation of the reservation, the entire rental amount must be paid in full.
Per Newport Beach city policy, you must be a at least 25 years of age to book a vacation rental. The person booking the reservation must be staying at the property for the duration of the reservation dates and may not book for someone else. Please verify your age and provide the names and ages of the other guests staying the rental agreement.
This rental is strictly smoke and drug free. Absolutely no smoking of any product (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, cannabis, e-cigarettes, etc) anywhere on the property including the unit itself as well as the deck, sidewalks, driveway and garage.
No parties-No loud music-No loud gatherings of any sort allowed. Ours is not a party rental. Quiet hours are from 10PM - 10AM.
Gatherings anywhere on the property are not to exceed 7 people, including renters and their guests, unless prior approval is provided by owner.
Exterior security cameras run 24/7 and are mounted to record access doors. There are no interior cameras anywhere on the property.
Treat our home with respect - it is truly our home and you are a guest.
No pick-up trucks or large SUVs allowed in the garage.
We strictly enforce all rules and will evict if broken.

The online pictures don’t even do it justice. The rooms are beautifully furnished and stocked with every amenity imaginable. Both bedrooms are nice enough to be primary suites. The location is great and Pat (the owner) even welcomed us with fresh cookies and a bottle of wine!

We are repeat renters and this is our favorite place to call home for vacation. The location is perfect situated just a few blocks from the beach, grocery store and restaurants. Pam and Jimmy offer all the amenities for a fun beach vacation. The home is impeccably clean and comfortable. We love having dinner on the roof top deck after a day at the beach. We can’t wait to return the next time we visit Newport Beach.

Everything about our experience with Pam went far beyond our expectations. Her home was immaculate, excellent location, and with the upsrairs balcony we almost could have never left to enjoy our time on the beach. But, having grown up here, everything about our NB time was also amazing. Came in white and pale... left golden tan!!

This place is AMAZING (especially if you're lucky enough to book both sides of the duplex)...Bikes, boogie boards, & beach gear galore! We stayed here with our two young boys and it was the perfect spot for our family to stay for a week. Very short walk to the beach and to restaurants. Garage was stocked with lots of beach toys and wagons to make beach trips much easier. Rooftop area was a great place to rest at the end of the day. We’d stay again if/when we come back.

Pam's place was wonderful. It was the best stocked home I have stayed in and "the shack" wine and other snacks were so thoughtful. The location is so close to the beach, and the roof deck was wonderful. We walked to all the restaurants and having a grocery store also just around the corner was handy. Beds were comfy and the large sectional was great for seating. I would stay here again in a minute.

Pam and Jimmy’s home was comfortable, close to the beach and walkable to boardwalk, shops and restaurants. Well stocked with so many things you might need and more, in terms of kitchen condiments and pots pans dishes, linens, bathroom supplies, extra toothbrushes, soap. Was just like home, only better!. Everything was in perfect working order, plus a garage for parking and shareables; 6-7 bicycles, beach chairs , boogie boards, wagons umbrellas and beach toys. Roof top deck was great with 2 fire pits, cafe lights and comfortable seating. The fireplace in the living room was wonderful as well. Beds and pillows were comfortable, nice linens and towels. We were very happy and felt fortunate to be staying in this well appointed comfortable home. A booklet describing things to do, places to eat, how things in the house worked and how to prepare before leaving was specific and so helpful. Communication was instant, Pam checked in by text to see if we were good during our stay, fast responses before and after booking. This home is in the top 3 of our many VRBO rentals. The cookies, wine and personalized greeting left for our arrival was so appreciated. Thank you Pam and Jimmy.

We had an amazing stay! I can’t say enough incredible things about the remarkable hospitality we received from our host. From the personal communication before we arrived to the delicious cookies and so many amenities when we got there to the follow up afterward when we left somethings behind and she shipped them to us. We really enjoyed this property. The owner thought of everything you may need for a trip to the beach or a bike ride to the pier. We took day trips to Hollywood, the Griffith Observatory, and the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The welcome sign, cookies, and bottle of wine was a nice surprise!

We had such a terrific time, only wish we could have stayed longer. Pam and Jimmy thought of everything to make their place so comfortable and welcoming. They left nothing out; from wine and cookies upon arrival to a garage full of adventure. The location was excellent and we were able to bike and walk everywhere. It was so nice to be greeted by a welcome sign with cookies and a bottle of wine. The Shack was wonderful and such a convenient stay due to it being such a short walk to the beach in addition to all the amenities the shack provided! Pam was so helpful in our booking process and in giving us all the information we needed for our stay in Newport Beach. There were so many close restaurants, shops and grocery stores nearby and within walking distance. Having the bikes to ride around town and the beach chairs there made our stay so much better. Our family enjoyed our time.

The house was very nice, clean, and just as described. We liked the location, one short block 5 min walk to beach. Many restaurants, shops and supermarket within walking distance. House had rooftop that was nice to relax at night or sunbath. Central air, washer/dryer, she had lots of cooking utensils and BBQ grill. The location was great for car trips all within an hour or less: we did Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Santa Monica, Anaheim Angels game, Disney, Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Hills and Sunset/ Beverly Hills Boulevard for the week. Great host she was very accommodating and always quickly answered any questions. We will definitely be back. Thanks again!

This is one of our favorite rentals!! Pam goes above and beyond to make you feel welcomed! We arrived to an immaculate and cozy place with a note, bottle of wine and homemade cookies! The location is perfect and Pam provides many suggestions for restaurants, outings, etc. The bikes were awesome and having a dedicated garage to park was not typical for the area and so nice!! Beds were super comfortable! We enjoyed our week and will definitely stay here again if visiting Newport Beach!

From the moment we entered the impeccably clean condo (with a bottle of wine and cookies for a welcome), we just kept having one pleasant surprise after another. We felt right at home with a super-stocked kitchen (coffee pods, blender, spices, etc.) and every bath supply you could ever need (I was out of contact solution and could NOT believe there was a bottle in the cabinet). Beds were comfy, layout is great for a family of 4, and although it poured rain the entire stay, the rooftop deck would be an incredible spot to eat meals or relax in the sun. I can’t say anything about the beach, because of said weather, but it’s super close, and the garage is as well-stocked as the rest of the rental. The kids were so disappointed not to be able to use any of it. We will have to try again next time. We live in a very rural, quiet town, so if you’re not used to cars going by on streets below, don’t forget earplugs.

What a wonderful month-long VRBO experience at Pam & Jimmy's Shack - which is anything but a shack. Everything was as advertised - fully stocked kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, towels, bikes, beach equipment. Roof-top deck - awesome! One of our most comfortable VRBO stays anywhere in the world. And our hosts were the best!! Highly communicative before and during our stay. Minor issues taken care of immediately and with a smile. Great restaurants every-time. The Boardwalk was a daily must regardless of the weather (which didn't always cooperate). We walked the peninsula all the time and enjoyed it. My son lives in the area, so this isn't our first stay. I always check to see if "The Shack" is available when planning a visit to Newport Beach. There are so many positives - The host, Pam, is easy to communicate with. Check in and out are easy. Instructions are well communicated. It's always nice to arrive to find a welcome message with a bottle of wine and cookies. I usually cook at least 1 night and the kitchen is well equipped. I love the bikes and beach chairs that are provided. The location is amazing. It's an easy walk to the Lido village as well as the restaurants on the boardwalk and it's so close to the beach! Thanks again for having us! We'll be back

The Shack is the perfect location - close to the beach, close to the grocery store, easy on/off the island. The amenities are top notch - both small and large. We love to use the bikes and the other items in the garage (chairs, boogie boards, frisbee, wiffle bat/balls). And inside, the handful of spices/condiments, foil, ziplocs - it's the small things that make this place so comfortable. I realized halfway through our trip that I needed to charge my Kindle - went downstairs and found a cord I could use. Pam is super easy to communicate with and very responsive. I almost hesitate to share this wonderful unit in case someone books it when we want it! Love the Shack!!!
