Room was lovely and clean, recently refurbished I believe. Bathroom was excellent

I generally don’t have the need to review hotels, but on this occasion, I did an exemption. Not sure, how this is a 4 star hotel. Very basic for £170 a night room. 2nd floor closed for refurbishment and very noisy until late.
The highlight of the visit was the young lad at the reception Connor.

Was given a quirky room at first (tv on a bracket on the wall which didn’t swivel so couldn’t watch from the bed and the only chair was below the tv, no place to put kettle unless on a very small table next to the bed (kettle tray bigger than table) and no sockets anywhere other than by the bed so my wife wouldn’t be able to dry hair anywhere near a mirror). On mentioning some of this to the staff, they understood and moved us to a different room. This room was huge compared to last one, and we had a great night’s stay. Breakfast was a buffet and tasty. Every member of staff we spoke to or saw was helpful and nice. Great location but parking was unavailable unless you were there early, or guaranteed if you booked direct with the hotel. Other deals available also, but only if you booked direct with the hotel. If going to Bournemouth, this is a great location as right at the bottom of the town by the beach, gardens, BIC and Pavilion.

Great location and huge room. But, no room in car park. Had to pay to park in multi storey 5 minutes walk away.
Also, central heating system made a loud noise - air in system? - which did not allow for a restful, quiet night's sleep.

A friendly helpful staff, happy to help.

Refurbished rooms very good, other rooms looking tired. Majority of staff very good. Hotel ideally placed for beach and town centre. Would stay again.

One of the worst hotel experience ever!
I recently stayed at this property with my kids and with no doubt was a horrible experience through out. To begin with, the room was not clean by any standards - the bedsheet was evidently reused without wash as it had sand all over the bed. The tap water was pale yellow. And the staff was the worst part of the experience - as they seemed busy pushing charges instead of meeting basics of customer service standards. Finally, the parking measures are worst to a different standard - as they just sent me a parking fine for parking my car while I was trying to check in.
I highly recommend families to avoid staying in this hotel!

It was okay, to be fair, it doesn’t truly feel like a 4-star hotel. There were spiderwebs on the ceiling, and the toilet sink was broken.
The receptionist lady was lovely. It’s a shame because the location is amazing. However, it doesn’t have a pool on-site. You have to go to another hotel, which is a 20-minute walk away, to use their pool. That’s not very convenient.

Our room was beside a very noisy fan and light system,
The paper on the wall around the room with peeling off.
The bathroom flooded only having a small bath.

The location of the hotel was excellent, very close to the pier, Upside Down House and other attractions. I ate at the hotel on one evening. The food was good. The shower in my room was a bit disappointing for a 4 star hotel. It was impossible to get the head at a good angle. My room was spacious and clean.. i would definitely stay again

Had a superior family room with my kids, room was huge, beautiful and very clean. The whole hotel was spotless and all staff I met were lovely and friendly. Location couldnt have been better, literally right in centre of beachfront.
Food in restaurant was really nice and good choices too. No complaints

Facilities great. Staff friendly. Everything clean. Shame you have to pay to park at the hotel though.
1.5
Overall the hotel service was very good, however our room was noisy and difficilt to sleep due to the big air cons behind the room outside.
2.5
the staff at the hotel were so nice and accommodating. very friendly professional kind staff. Whatever we requested was not too much for them and was done with a smile. The dinner was very delicious and for a three course meal we paid £23 each which I think is a reasonable price. As for house keeping we had our rooms cleaned everyday and clean towels whenever we needed them. There was 3 of us in the room and the beds were big and comfortable. We stayed in a family room and there was enough beds for a couple and two children.

Decent hotel in a perfect location. Nice and powerful shower. Perhaps a little old fashioned, the bed could be a bit comfier and the bar could do a with a bit of a revamp. Not major gripes though, would stay again.

I stayed at many places in Bournemouth but first time in Hermitage. It was great. I’m a terrible germophobe but to my surprise every surface was spotless. Beddings clean and fresh. Towels well washed. No speck of dust. Carpet looked as though they washed them before the season. Comfortable mattress and plenty of pillows. Aircon so quiet I managed to fall asleep in a lovely cool room. I’m coming back to Hermitage soon…

Lovely hotel with friendly and helpful staff throughout our stay.
Reception Manager resolved our Room allocation very quickly and arranged a room upgrade and complimentary beverages whilst the room change was being made.
The quality of the room renovations is very good. Breakfast choices very good and high quality.
Hotel is ideally placed for exploring Bournemouth and very close to the beach and pier. Bar pricing reasonable,

I stayed here on the 22nd June with my partner and son !! I booked the room through hotels.com - we booked a superior sea view at a cost for one night of £218. This is a 4 star “ not a chance” I took pictures to show reception who even commented “ wow” let me speak with the manager . It was interesting that to get some air into the room all we got was smoke from the smoking area below the window. After 3 mails directly from me and a number of calls from hotels.com the “ management choose to ignore all of them. Extremely unprofessional. I understand they are trying to upgrade it then don’t charge upgrade costs until you have completed the work and more importantly listen to your customers and don’t bury your head in the sand !!!

An older hotel on the sea front which has been modernised to cater for residents of all ages and abilities.

Despite the hotel having major refurbishment, I didn't hear any noise. Lovely double room with a sea view.

Amazing view of the seafront.
Friendly staff and nice breakfast.
Great location

The 6minute walk from the X3 bus stop with our small suitcases was really pleasant.
The location was perfectly situated with easy access to the gardens, beach, promenade, the BIC, the Odeon & main shoppping areas.
Upon arrival, Ali at Reception was welcoming & friendly. When we were disappointed to find the superior room had a double bed & not the twin bedded room as requested, Ali moved us to a spacious, 1st floor, sea-facing room with a sofa.
A mini-fridge, fan & safe were stored in the cupboards.
The decor is a mixture of contemporary, classical & antique styles.
The Hermitage is perfectly situated for anyone going to Bournemouth on holiday or to live entertainment or a conference at the BIC or annual Bournemouth Show.

At the time of our visit, a refurb is on going. This means that while we had a sea view, we also had a skip and scaffolding view
It would have been good to know before booking that the two suites I booked for my mother's 80th birthday, required climbing 2 flights of stairs, because the lift serves a different part of the hotel.

Hotel needs a major update to be classed as a 4 star hotel

I have stayed at the Hermitage several times, as its location is perfect. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful. My room was clean and pleasant. Breakfast was delicious, as usual.
The only issue I had this time was that my single bed, which is against the wall, had not been made properly. The bottom sheet and duvet were merely pushed down between the bed and the wall, and not tucked under the mattress. Also, the mattress cover was hot and noisy, and I had to remove it and remake the bed during the night.
Overall, I had a great stay and I will return.

Great hotel, in good location. Bar staff are very slow. Bit disappointed with the £14 to have to pay to park in the hotel car park. Breakfast was lovely they even catered for my husband who is gluten and dairy free.

Excellent location if going to a show at the BIC!
1.5
This was definitely not a 4* probably. Property is run down, location is good but maintenance was really poor. The staff didn’t have a clue around how Expedia booking system worked and almost charged me twice

I stayed one night to attend a gig at the BIC which is literally just across the road. The park and the beach are a few foot steps one way, the mall with loads of restaurants is a few in the other direction. The hotel is old but comfortable. Room was nice, everywhere is clean. Breakfast was a bit basic but did the job. Not sure I'd want to stay a week but for a few days it fit the bill. I parked in the BIC's car park and then discovered the hotel has quite a bit of parking (and works out £2.50 cheaper than the BIC overnight).
2.5
From the reception staff who welcomed us on our arrival, bar and dining room staff. They were helpful and very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. The our bedroom was kept very clean.

A very lovely hotel with a great price for solo traveller single room with sea view and ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. TV room service. Options for dinner and breakfast. Extremely high standards of customer service. Nicely decorated and good set menu with good variety of options very well cooked and presented food which was delicious. Attentive , friendly staff who were able to provide information on the local area. Tea and coffee in room. Cosy and warm with good thock curtains to cut out light when sleeping. Very quiet at night. Bar and restaurant on site. Lots of storage available. Walking distance to beach, BIC, Pavillion and restaurants and bars. Car park available and 5 mins by taxi from station. Lift available. Had a really excellent experience and will definitely book again. I would recommend to friends and family.

Everything good especially the reception staff and their eagerness to sort a minor problem. This has encouraged us to book to return, we shall look forward that very much

Unfortunately we did not have the best stay here. We were woken up ever morning by either an alarm, or renovation work (drilling) and the cleaning staff asking if we wanted the room to be cleaned (she came at 9:00am). The front desk staff were rude and did not give us all the information when we asked.
2.5
Fantastic location, large car park, opposite the pier, next to the gardens & close to town. Lovely staff. Large rooms. Comfortable bed this time too.

Rooms are dated, I never expect top notch from small hotels like this, but everything just feels old, some might call it rustic, but it just felt like it could do with a bit of an uplift.
Taps run at just over 20-25 degrees, with little to no pressure, so expect cold showers !
Breakfast was mediocre and certainly not worth including in your stay, I would suggest taking a wander up pier to find a better breakfast place, probably cheaper too !
all in all a bit disappointing, and not sure if I will book here again

Super friendly / helpful staff. Clean, warm, comfort room but generally the property needs investment S it is looking tiered throught. That being said - happy to go back!!
