Absolutely stunning stay at a converted working farm in Alentejo, 2 hours drive from Lisbon. A true retreat!

An amazing place to stay. Staff were exceptional as was everything about Sao Lourenco. Highly recommend.

Most peaceful and amazing place. Great service, though it becomes slightly less attentive during the weekend due to higher number of guests, it’s still way better than most places.
Definitely going back, it’s gorgeous and the best place to reset.

Excellent set-up; lovely room; good base for exploring some of the region and for walking. staff amazingly helpful and friendly. Local wines were enjoyable. Food was pleasant, and predominantly local and seasonal, and competently prepared, but not as interesting as most of the other meals we had on our trip.

Beautiful hotel and property. Wonderful, friendly staff.

It is important to say that we would like to return if we are able.
The Hotel must be seen and rated completely separately from the restaurant, because they are at very different levels in terms of service.
The Hotel and its surroundings are absolutely beautiful. there are many of the 5 star special touches and treats which one appreciates.
Rooms are large, bathrooms are large, rooms are spotlessly clean, the beds are very comfortable, the service right on arrival by car is impeccable.
Dinner was unfortunately poor in terms of service, also visibly experienced at other tables. The food itself was very good.
Breakfast was very good overall, but the small inconsistencies need to be dealt with.
I have already seen reviews which state that during breakfast, there was a lawn being mown directly in front of the outdoor restaurant. We also experienced this. The noise was not a major issue, but the petrol smell over breakfast is unwarranted. This can easily be cleared up by management instructing staff to wait for another hour or more before doing this type of work. We actually had the lawn mower and the strimmer going on at the same time. I found it fairly amusing given the 5 star rating. This noise and smell does not fit in with the relaxed atmosphere which one needs at these prices and in such an establishment.
A few adjustments and the prices are worth the stay

I would not recommend to stay at Sao Lourenco do Barrocal AT THE BEGINNING of your vacation because it will only ruin the rest of it.
Once you leave this place, the only thing you will regret is that you didn't stay longer and the only thing you will think of is when you will be able to go back.
This hotel is perfection from the moment you park your car on the parking until you leave.
EVERYTHING is perfect but here are a few highlight : Architecture is gorgeous, sunset by the hotel bar, quality of the guest, all nice and friendly, the amazing staff, all local people who love their region and what they do, the great spa, the delicious food at all the restaurants, the incredible huge pool, the bike rides on the property, the huge rooms with gorgeous views.
It is a 10 starts experience but it is all very simple and casual. Simple, rustic luxury.
Can't wait to come back !!

The property, the location, the rooms and the facilities were all very nice. The food was great too. Service was ok and at checkout we realized they had overcharged us for various things. We felt it was slightly overpriced overall and would likely not stay there again.

Off the beaten path, very nice place to getaway for a couple of days on a longer trip around Portugal/Spain. Great spa and pool area, nice walking trails, and great restaurant on-site. Good for someone looking to plop down and relax. Service was fantastic.

Beautiful hotel in a breathless landscape. We had an excellent stay will the whole family.
Nevertheless too hot in Alentejo in August (>40C° degrees) not allowing us to enjoy as we wished the surroundings. Better to come in June or after September.

My wife and I had the most wonderful stay here. The impeccable service, the food quality that we experienced and the beautiful grounds make this place special. They have the cutest shop where we were able to get gifts and wine. The grounds are expansive where we enjoyed a wonderful bike ride. The nearby town of Monsaraz has a nice little town and impressive castle to visit. The spa services were excellent (per my wife). The stargazing at night from our patio was also quite enjoyable. This was quite a memorable getaway and 2 days here were not enough so we certainly will be back!

This hotel is amazing. Everything has been thought through, even down to leaving bookmarks by your bed for your books. The grounds are stunning, with rolling fields, vineyards and lawns covered with daisies. It is a perfect place to unwind. There is a real sense of calmness here - from peaceful walks to long bike rides or sipping gin and tonics in the bar. Once you arrive, you feel totally removed from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. The spa is also a must and staff throughout the hotel are lovely and very helpful. Our only regret is that we only booked for two nights and would have loved to stay for longer.

I wanted to return the moment I stepped in the door of my farm room. Every detail in the room was perfect: the scent of the soap, the grand height of the ceilings, the softness of the sheets, the handmade rugs, the brick floor, the color scheme, the windows and doors, the view of the castle in the distance. And the grounds! The scent coming from the ground cover was sweeter than flowers; the pool was delightfully cool and clean; there were pomegranates to pick, walks to take, the sound of chocalhos (cowbells) to enjoy. I went to the gift shop five times over the course of three days because the goods were so much fun to look at and buy (e.g., the house olive oil). The restaurant was terrific and the waitstaff attentive and fun. The breakfast buffet was superb and abundant. There was a nice little gym and we saw an air balloon flying above. I can't wait to return.

Idyllic. Beautiful. Gracious. Understated. Pristine. Calming. All that and delicious food and beverages.
I cannot express how pleased we were with Sao Lourenco do Barrocal From the moment we arrived there was a warm welcome at this expansive, breathtaking property. We had a spacious Farm Room with a view of the village of Monsaraz. Service from the entire staff was outstanding. I highly would recommend.
Time here is worth spending

This was the perfect place to wind down for a couple of days during a month long trip. We loved the relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant was fabulous. The room was beautifully decorated, clean, spacious and with a patio on which to enjoy sampling some of their own wines, bought on site at very reasonable prices and which I found to be very good. Monsaraz is a short drive away with locally made artisan products available. The staff are friendly and efficient. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay there again.

Unfortunately we did not get to enjoy the property to the fullest because the weather was not nice, but the grounds are beautiful and the setting is bucolic. Or room was very spacious and had a warm and welcoming feel. The breakfast is a tasty, diverse buffet with local breads and toppings. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. There is a small exercise room in the spa which is nice but the beauty of the place is in the peacefulness of the location.

A great hotel to relax and do nothing yet with plenty of activities and places to visit nearby if you wish. We enjoyed both ! I enjoyed a great Pilates class with Anna and although I didn't try the Spa it looked fabulous. We took advantage of the hotels free bikes and had a wonderful time cycling around the estate. We hired a boat around the Lake, visited Evora for the day and enjoyed a superb lunch at a neighbouring wine estate amongst other things. The rooms were very spacious, simply but stylishly furnished. The pool a great size and with a fabulous view. The staff very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend.
