About this house rental
Come visit Acadia and stay at our fabulous oceanfront retreat. We are located in Tremont, 5 minutes from Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park. Enjoy Acadia while avoiding the crowds in Bar Harbor! The "quiet side" of MDI has some of Acadia's best hiking, biking, paddling and swimming. Southwest Harbor is a lively little town with some of the islands finest restaurants, galleries and shops as well as a true working waterfront where you can enjoy lobster cruises, sunset sails or take a ferry to one of the neighboring islands. The western areas of Acadia National Park (Echo Lake Beech, Long Pond and dozens of the best hikes and beach trails) are just 10 minutes away and Bar Harbor and the park loop road are 25 minutes drive. Or if you just want a peaceful retreat, you can work remotely with a sparkling view out your window. Explore the shore on a leisurely stroll. Kayak in the peaceful cove, or paddle further out to the open ocean on an adventurous whim. Then return to your private hideaway. There’s plenty to do inside, as well, with ping pong, games, puzzles, and a lovely screened-in porch that maximizes that spectacular view in comfort. Idyllic.
Acadia Sunset Seaside Cottage Rental is a 3-bedroom, 3-bath house with private access directly to the shore. With en suite bathrooms and separate dining, living, reading, and game rooms, the cottage is well suited to accommodate multiple generations of family or a small group of friends, while still preserving your privacy.
The Master Bedroom on the first floor, with king bed, is furnished in iron and sturdy 19th century New England oak, with a handmade quilt and adjacent full bath.
Upstairs, the Blue Room is a bit more playful with its two twin painted cottage beds, wave and buoy décor, and a private bath.
While all three bedrooms boast a view of the ocean or mountain or both, the Waterfall Room upstairs features the same stunning view shared by the living and dining rooms, looking out to the mouth of the cove across Blue Hill Bay to Swan’s Island and beyond. A queen bed and his-and-hers dressers complement the private bath to complete your comfortable stay.
There is a fourth sleeping option (Double Sofa Bed) in the family room off the game room.
Add to that a fully equipped kitchen, private steps to your own stretch of shore, a porch with cedar glider and additional seating, a gas barbecue grille, CD/Radio/TV/DVD player, a good collection of short stories, a ping-pong table in the game room downstairs, board games, puzzles, and cards for a rainy day or cozy night – and you’ve got everything you need for your vacation, special occasion, getaway, or holiday in beautiful Maine!

Quiet and peaceful. The house was great, with indoor and outdoor places to relax. (And we didn't even use the game room!) The downside of being in such a quiet area is that it's a bit of a drive to the sights and food. Of course that's also an advantage--we were away from the busy parts of the island. I'd stay here again.

exceeded our expectations! quiet family residence, within miles of Acadia Nat'l Park. spent 4 days exploring the Park and adjacent small towns. Check-in/Check-out without any issues. I highly recommend this for a family setting

Everything was fantastic all the way around. The place was absolutely beautiful and very clean (the sunsets are truly phenomenal)! It was a perfect hub to our adventures in Acadia National Park. The blend of mountainous terrain, water, trees, etc. creates a wonderful landscape. Also, the communication from the property manager was great. Our family enjoyed the hikes, lobster, ocean, etc. in Maine and we highly recommend this place!

The VRBO was as listed--not fancy, but functional with 3 BR and 3 Baths, and clean. It allowed our group to sit around the table or LR and enjoy each other. Our group also enjoyed sitting on the patio and looking over the cove and walking down to the beach.
The property seems to slightly neglected: 1) the light or light bulb over the island was out 2) there is not enough light in the upper BR, which has one small lamp; 3) Some windows lack screens--and without AC, you need to open windows, 4) one upstairs window does not work and may be broken 5) the curtains on the upstairs windows do not cover the window, etc.

We really enjoyed our stay! Everything was so clean and welcoming. When there was a small discrepancy with the listing, the owner addressed it quickly. We would definitely recommend this location and this house.

The location of the property was a convenient.
Cleaneleness of the property was ok.
The shower cartoons on the first floor need to be changed.
Overall, we enjoyed and will recomend the place to our friend.

My wife and I celebrated an early Thanksgiving with one of our adult sons and his gf. We benefited from great November weather, so only spent our evenings on the property. The house had plenty of room for us, the location is excellent (we prefer the "quiet" side of MDI), and everything was very clean. We hope to return when it's a bit warmer to take advantage of the waterfront location!

Very nicely cared for and clean. Beautiful, peaceful location. We will be back!

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very clean and well stocked, and the screened in porch is small but a great bonus. The sunsets are magnificent! Areas for improvement would be better lighting (among other things, we could never figure out how to turn on the light over the dining room table) and a working microwave. Also, the bedroom on the first floor definitely needs end tables with lamps as well as at least one small chest of drawers. Overall, we are happy to recommend this cottage.

Located by the water with a great view, house has everything you need to stay and relax. Highly recommend.

Quiet and picturesque property located 10 minutes from Southwest Harbor. Very good place for an extended family. Three bedrooms each with its own bathroom and shower! Duck Cove is your backyard. Property is well maintained. Bring blackout curtains (we left some there) because in late June, the sun rises before 5am!

We enjoyed our stay. The view was beautiful!

We had a wonderful time there. We loved each having our own bathrooms. The bedrooms do need curtains to block out the sunrise and more lamps. It was very quiet.

Screened in porch was great.

This was the perfect place away from the crowds with access to Acadia and all the island has to offer.

Joy and Peter are excellent hosts: property was perfectly clean, well cared for and stocked with essential immunities. The house was of good size. The lower level recreation room adds a great dimension to the space, especially as it opens to the outdoor dining area. And situated in the east shore of an inlet you get the full coastal experience with salt air, the sound of water and gulls, and beautiful sunsets. The SWH is the place to be on MDI as you get the solitude of a remote area, but with excellent dining options close by and 20-30 minutes from the best hiking of MDI and Bar Harbor. Highly recommend this property.

My sister and brother-in-law and other sister and I loved the beautiful, comfortable and quiet house. There was plenty of room for all to have their own space and comfortable places to get together. We loved walking the beach at low tide and enjoying the evening on the screened in porch. Ship Harbor, Wonderland and Flying Mountain are close by and wonderful trails! Had great meals at Beal's and Thurston's. The approximately 1/2 ride to the park entrance is well worth the benefit of being on the quieter side of MDI, still with access to local stores and restaurants. Thanks to Joy and Peter for the obvious care and attention they give to their home to make sure visitors feel welcome and comfortable. Hope to return for a visit in the future!

Very clean, very comfortable house. The surrounding area was beautiful and quiet. We loved sitting in the screened in porch and watching the cove in the morning and evening.

Our first time in Maine and really enjoyed our stay. There's so much to explore nearby.....Bass Harbor Lighthouse, Ship Harbor and Wonderland Trails are close. Southwest Harbor is a cool town with a pharmacy, restaurants, etc. Best meal was at Thurston's, not a fancy place but, they know what they're doing! Joy was great to communicate with....the cool evenings, sleeping w windows open, can't beat it. Cottage well equipped and our teenagers appreciated having their own bathrooms. Place is very clean. Thanks for the hospitality Joy!

We loved our vacation at this magical cottage. We had 2 families with adult children and a teen and we all enjoyed it. Plenty of room to spread out and with in a short driving distance of so much and 30 minutes into Bar Harbor for more! Highly recommend renting kayaks and having delivered to explore the cove. Thank you so much for a dream vacation!

It was our first trip to MDI and Acadia National Park for this 3 generation trip. We knew we wanted to enjoy life on the quietside and didn’t mind driving the island. Duck Cove was quiet, secluded, and stunning! Beautiful sunsets over the water/trees. The house was a great size for 2 kids, 2 parents, and 2 grandparents. We had space to hang out together eating, playing games, and exploring the rock beach but we also had space to sit alone and read a book or work on a puzzle. Joy was quick to respond to any questions we might have and even gave us a fun tip about how to refill water jugs like a local (which we did - twice!).
Super close to some easy hikes like wonderland, ship harbor, and the bass harbor head light. About 45 min to downtown Bar harbor, and about 35 min to park loop road. When we return, I would rent from Joy and Peter again in a heartbeat!

The house was a perfect size for our family. We loved the location and being on the water. Ping pong a plus!

We loved the location. House nicely furnished and it had all the necessary requirements. We would rent again if we are in the area.
Good restaurants in nearby village.

We had plenty of space for our family of five. The three full bathrooms were much appreciated. Great location to visit Acadia.

We had a great time here! Duck Cove was beautiful, the house was exactly as advertised - great rooms and amenities, the check-in and -out process was seamless. It was also close to a lot of the places we wanted to hike and only a short drive with beautiful scenery to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We will definitely stay here again when we come back!

Need better instructions to find house, a number out front would help if arriving in the evening. It doesn't help to say purple door when it's hidden by a white door. Otherwise a very nice place stay
