While at The Shops at Legacy, you are among proud history of Texas. Stroll through our tree-lined streets and beautifully landscaped parks, which will lead you to:

BACCUSS PARK a Texas historical landmark (circa 1847), is home to Baccus Cemetery, founded by Captain Henry Cook to bury his son Daniel Cook. Several of his family members, and many of their descendants are buried in the cemetery.

THE SHAWNEE TRAIL was the earliest of the principal routes Texas longhorn cattle were taken to railheads to the north. Its main stem passed through Austin, Waco, and Dallas, crossed the Red River and led north along the eastern edge of Oklahoma. Some believe the trail was named after a Shawnee village on the Texas side of the Red River just below the trail crossing.

COWBOYS, PROUD AND STRONG a team of a dozen wranglers and drovers, led by a trail boss whose word was law, drove herds that could number up to 1,000 heads. Among the unique heritage of the Texas drive is the Vaquero, a Mexican horseman skilled in the art of driving cattle (also called a “Pointer”), and the Cutter, whose job was to guide lone cattle back to the drive. (Cutters were also known as “Drag Men”).

THE TRAILS IN LEGACY offers a glimpse of the Shawnee Trail of the 1800s. Steer are led by the Vaquero through the Baccus Park esplanades down Bishop Road. The cutter presides over the herd mid-way toward the watering hole at the far end of Baccus Park, where the Trail Boss surveys the herd as it ambles toward the water. A total of 19 life-sized longhorn and three cowboy bronze sculptures were cast by renowned Texas artist, Robert Summers.

Two large families had a wonderful time in these side by side condos. They are very clean and comfortable and the location is walking distance to terrific restaurants. The beds aren’t really described correctly on the website. There is a king in the modern master (with mirror!) and a queen in the traditional master. The twin beds are actually a daybed with trundle. The decor of the modern side is a riot! There is a mirror on the ceiling over the king size bed which gave us pause. There is a techno 80’s vibe. The adjoining home is more conservative/traditional in its decor and had a table we could eat at as a family for thanksgiving. These properties do not have entry to each other on the inside.
