About this house rental
This distinctive island cottage was a new listing last season, owned /managed by a HomeAway ‘premier’ host. It is located approx. 2 miles from town & Crescent beach, 1 mile Walk to gorgeous, westside beach-nestled in a beautiful, natural setting on the Island’s west side, away from the summer crowds! The cottage has 2 cozy bedrooms which sleep 4, each has one full-sized bed (there is an additional twin XL daybed on the main floor for flexibility purposes or an occasional extra guest) & rents from Saturday-Saturday— so if you are planning on bringing a car, we suggest booking a reservation on the boat for your vehicle as soon as possible.
This special property borders on 2 large areas of preserved open space (Turnip Farm & Nathan Mott Park) & miles of magical greenway trails- (accessed just outside of the yard)-offering inspiring daily doses of beauty & adventure! The Turnip Farm’s golden grassy meadows, which are steps away, are a glory to behold in the afternoon sunlight. Trails connect with Rodman’s Hollow Preserve, Black Rock, Fresh Pond, Turnip Farm & Nathan Mott Park (Enchanted Forest) to name a few. There are also several delightful 20 min. rambles down the road to the quiet, sandy/rocky beach coves of Cooneymus & Dorrie’s Cove. Enjoy magnificent sunsets & super-starry night skies!
This cottage itself exudes a bit more ‘magic’ than your typical rental…personally furnished, well-appointed & comfortable, offering a variety of communal gathering spaces as well as cozy nooks…
On the first floor guests will find a sunny, well-equipped eat-in kitchen w/ new dishwasher, fridge, vintage stove & walk-in pantry. Gas grill & outdoor dining table are situated just outside the kitchen door. On the same level— a comfy south-facing living room, small bath, & adjacent library with loveseat, desk (facing sunset) & bookshelves stocked with a variety of interesting reads!
Additionally, there is a larger living space which includes 2 sofas, daybed, long computer desk & smartTV (no satellite). There is internet-(as it is on the island).
Throughout the house, a variety of artwork, as well as board games & books are available for guests to enjoy. Laundry is in basement, accessible through bulkhead at the rear of the house, as well as a large flower/veg garden…its lushness can be seen through north-facing kitchen windows…
The second level features 2 bedrooms- 1 to the west has a full-sized bed; the other modest east-facing room also has one double bed (with the option of a roll-out mat on the floor for kids who don’t like to share beds). Also, find a spacious full bath with vintage claw foot tub, tile shower & pedestal sink. Please note that there are fans placed throughout the house to keep guests comfortable when summer heats up.
Outside, the green, expansive yard is fabulous for lounging around with beverages or morning coffee, reading, evening stargazing, (includes watching for fireflies), observing birds, playing tag or badminton, or simply listening to the crickets! It is approx. a 6 min. drive to town, or a visit to our neighbor’s horses a 3 min. walk up the road….Fresh pond is just a 10 min. Bike ride away! There are chairs & small tables and hammock for outdoor relaxing, clothesline for fresh air drying & behind the garden shed, a wonderful, (highly recommended) private outdoor shower…
Native shrubs abound- including, Shad, bayberry, viburnum & wild blueberry- with the added bonus of the honeysuckle vine and multiflora rose, whose intoxicating scents permeate the air.

Carolyn's home and grounds are stunning; she made us feel welcome and at ease. Great kitchen: we made all our own food the entirety of our stay. The back of the property abuts the major hiking trail on the island -- we recommend getting the All Trails app, which gives granular guidance from the door. There is a wonderful outdoor shower with hot water! Block Island is small, so beaches are a brief car ride or bike ride away. (The cottage is on a dirt road, so hybrid bikes are best.) We enjoyed every minute of our stay here and were sad to go.

We stayed late August in the artists cottage and were truly delighted from the moment we arrived. It's on a beautiful property close enough to town, but far from the hustle and bustle. The yard is quite large and backs up to conservation land, making it easy to go for a variety hikes, including a stunning one to the ocean. The interior of the. house could be from Home & Garden magazine. It's cozy, filled with antiques, art, oriental rugs and furnishings that make it feel personal but not stuffy. The library, yes a library, is filled with many art books, the kitchen is well appointed, beds are comfortable and the outdoor shower is lovely! We'll certainly be back again

We had a great stay at the island artist cottage! Carolyn was an excellent communicator about the check in and check out process. She even provided the local newspaper for the week events and surprised us with fresh peaches during our stay. Great location- next to several greenway trails and very quiet. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean!

This house and property are exactly as described and pictured! Carolyn, the property manager, was very helpful with suggestions of things to do, places to eat, and things to see. We would definitely recommend this property for your Block Island vacation.

We had a great week at Carolyn's beautiful cottage. The house is very well cared for and perfect for a relaxing family trip. We especially enjoyed being able to pass through the stone wall at the back edge of the property to explore several hiking trails that pass right by the house. Carolyn was also a great host - she gave us some fun local recommendations for our family, including an ideal spot for finding hermit crabs that was a big hit with the kids! The cottage is in a quiet private location with a nice yard to relax in at the end of the day, but also conveniently central for visiting Block Island's beaches and other attractions.

My wife, two little boys and I feel incredibly thankful to have spent a week at Carolyn's home this summer. The house and surrounding grounds are truly magical. She has clearly put a lot of time and love into creating a sanctuary in the lush green hills of Block Island. Her artistic background comes through in the gardens and structures, and styling throughout the house. This is an actual home--rather than a rental property--and it feels that way. The house is located adjacent to incredible trails that will ultimately take you to the ocean. It's a quick drive to the action in town and a number of different beaches. Carolyn was great as a host as well, giving us pointers on activities, weather, food, and ensuring we felt comfortable and enjoyed ourselves throughout our stay. She even brought us a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the garden! We've stayed in countless rentals over the years; this one was truly special. Thanks, Carolyn, for everything!

We loved this property, away from the touristy part of the island. A very cozy place to stay.

The house was located in beautiful surroundings, steps from walking trails and in a tranquil, well-tended garden. The interior was comfortable, well-designed and full of art and books. The host was helpful and welcoming. Ideal location for adults looking for peace and restorative beauty.

This was our second trip to the island and we wanted a place a bit off the beaten path and Carolyn's home was perfect. We are the adventurous types, so having all the trails right outside the door was amazing. But the real charm of this place was how quickly we felt at home. The warmth of the place is unmatched. Our kids had a blast playing in the yard and also cuddling up in the TV room for a book. We stayed in a lot more than the last trip and just enjoyed the beautiful setting.
Carolyn was a great resource for local treasures helping us discover new parts of this beautiful island that we had not yet experienced. The trails around the house are spectacular and it was a great central place for biking adventures. Beaches and town are close enough, but far enough that it was super quiet.
