A really enjoyable stay

I recently stayed at Caistor Hall Hotel, and unfortunately, it was an incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish.
First, the so-called “deluxe” room we were assigned was anything but deluxe. The room was dusty, fixtures were falling off the walls, and the bed creaked loudly with even the slightest movement. The walls were marked, giving the entire space a feeling of neglect. After raising these concerns with the staff, we were offered an upgrade to their “best” room, the Dashwood Suite. While this room was in better condition, it still failed to meet the standard one would expect, particularly given the price and expectations associated with staying at this hotel.
On top of the room issues, the service was just as poor. When we requested assistance with booking a taxi, we were told to handle it ourselves because the staff were “too busy.” Later, it was explained to us that this is a policy, but it was never communicated to us during our stay, adding to the frustration.
Although some of the staff tried to address our concerns, the management’s attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. When I followed up via email, I was met with a defensive response that ignored many of the core issues, including the substandard room conditions and lack of communication.
All in all, I would not recommend staying at Caistor Hall Hotel. The poor quality of both the facilities and the service, coupled with a lack of accountability from management, left us with a very negative

First impressions of this beautiful Georgian manor house were absolutely stunning. The exterior and extended grounds however have obviously been somewhat neglected over the last couple of years..but, oh my, on entering this grand place the interior, cleanliness and welcome made up for it! Opulent furnishings, luxurious decor and an incredibly calm ambience emulated throughout the building. The sweeping staircase took us to our room (which although looked out onto the roof of the bar) where we felt incredibly pampered. Little touches like the bottle of bath milk and top quality toiletries were fabulous. All communal areas were beyond beautiful, especially the incredibly relaxing 'Whisky Lounge'. Breakfast was absolutely amazing with both self service and waiter service. Everything was cooked to perfection. Staff were so very lovely and nothing too much trouble. We stayed for 2 nights and were greeted with a fresh bed and complete change of all towels after the first night! Lots to see and do in area around and only 2 miles from Norwich city centre. Beautiful place to stay, thoroughly recommend.

Lovely location, property and grounds. Room was nice although bathroom small. Stayed in room 5. Reception were very friendly and welcoming, same with breakfast staff.
However, woken up at 6.30am by the laundry truck unloading through the main entrance right under my window. Not a great start to my day. Option to use another staff/service door would be better.
Also hotel is run with a skeleton staff, horrendously short staffed at breakfast - one staff member working as host, waitress and cook. A second member of staff would help provide much better service. Heard my eggs benedict coming out of the microwave which isn't great. Safe to say the egg yolk was rock solid! Juice all from concentrate, granola was soft and overall selection poor. Pastries taken to table rather than being help yourself, resulted in lots of food waste on other tables. Much better breakfast at chain hotels which I usually prefer to avoid.
Final point is my shower flooded almost instantly, and hadn't drained away by the time I came back from breakfast. Informed breakfast staff upon checkout (as she was also wearing the receptionist hat too!)
So much potential to be a great property but being let down by poor management.

This is a fabulous dog-friendly hotel. We stayed 2 nights and met friends for a meal in the restaurant on one. The food in the restaurant was superb!
Our room was beautiful and spacious. The staff were lovely and the grounds great for walking and relaxing.
We also had the best hotel ironing board ever! It actually warranted its own picture! Who needs a full blown ironing board in a hotel? Now I want one of these at home!

A great little stay for a few nights as a mini get away.
Staff where lovely, polite and helpful.
Room was very clean and made up every day.
Just a lovely quiet place to stay with nice gardens and not far from the city center.

Lovely old house. Amazingly friendly staff who did anything to help. Room 1 was clean and comfortable with views across the grounds.

I know that this hotel historical but was not looking it’s best as there were missing rain gutters and rotting frames to windows and doors which was shame but my room was a good standard albeit with a few resident spiders and webs!
Breakfast cooked with local produce and presented well.

Lovely property full of character. But service is what really makes it. And food. Food was exquisite and very friendly and attentive service.

We had 4 nights at the hotel. It was very quiet due to an event the hotel was doing off site. Michelle met us and checked us in and then waited on us like royalty. She was amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. The grounds and public rooms are lovely and bedroom was large and comfortable.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Lovely location. Great cooking.

The staff were very friendly especially Danielle and Michelle. If it wasn’t for Danielle’s phone as the WiFi was not working I think Danielle deserves a bonus for a great effort

Lovely hotel on fabulous grounds,
Rooms are well furnished and breakfast was delicious.

Everything was perfect. I’ve stayed in lots of places across the area but this is by far the best. Everything from the initial greeting at reception, through to the scrumptious breakfast the following morning. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Fantastic hotel, staff and food were excellent.

Great hotel. Runs with a relatively small staff, so they are not always readily available. The staff are very friendly and helpful in general and provide good service.

Beautiful room, four poster with gorgeous garden view. Real central heating was a bonus, no noisy aircon (although I think it's there for hotter weather which is great). Love this building, very peaceful.

A real gem of a property, hidden away in lovely countryside south of Norwich, rooms are enormous and luxurious with four poster beds, and the property itself is a beautiful historic building. Great food at dinner and friendly service! Will stay again!

This was our second stay now and it’s absolutely amazing. Staff were very helpful and lovely especially dash! Nothing was too much effort. Food was well presented and tasted great. Will definitely be back in the future!

Lovely stay here, staff very friendly and helpful . Food very good at breakfast and dinner . Excellent location to get into centre of Norwich , bus stop right outside hotel so no need to take car into centre.

We called in and had delicious coffee in April 2023 so keen to revisit and stay.
Stunning building, wonderful grounds, comfortable bed, room beautifully clean and appointed.
Staff helpful and friendly.
However, bacon was overcooked and sausage cool. (on both occasions).Coffee served with breakfast was weak and tasteless. Waited ages for toast.
Window frame in room was mouldy, paint cracked and in need of TLC.
Would love to return and hope you find comments helpful.

Lovely room and breakfast.

They were very helpful in arranging a room with a shower and nearest the stairs to help my husband. The interior decor was lovely and all the staff excellent; they could not do enough for you. Food was very good too. Its position near to the Park and Ride means you can have the comfort of an excellent hotel and yet be in Norwich quickly and easily. We will definitely stay again

A pleasant hotel which is convenient for Norwich and the surrounding areas. Very quiet and peaceful. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Food was excellent.

Immaculate accommodation. Clean, spacious and beautiful views over the garden.
Unfortunately the restaurant was not open due to staff required at the Norfolk Show, but were directed to another excellent restaurant nearby.

We booked Caistor Hall as a last minute addition to our holiday in Suffolk and were not disappointed. It was lovely place. The room was very spacious, the staff friendly and professional without being overbearing and the grounds ideal for the dog. We ate in the restaurant which was excellent and very reasonably priced. The cost of the room also include a very nice breakfast. The local area has immense historical significance and we would have explore if we'd have stayed longer. Would recommend to anyone looking a quiet and relaxing getaway.

A wonderful place.
The Garden Suite was exquisite with a slipper bath in the bedroom.
Dinner was delicious.
Very very good price for five star everything.

My only criticism of our whole stay is that there wasn’t any bubble bath to use in the bath! Everything was perfect, thank you

So I called the hotel ahead of time as my little one has some challenging behaviours and I wanted to try to ensure a peaceful stay. I spoke to Ashley who couldn’t be more accommodating and reassuring. We were given room 19 to make sure we had a sofa bed and a bath.
When we arrived, Ashley spoke with Aria and gave her the key, he helped her feel special and she gave him a big hug.
At breakfast, we were greeted by Michelle who looked after us and made my daughter so happy. The food was lovely.
She also loved talking to the manager, playing with her dog and talking to Ola about Harry Potter!
Aria hasn’t stopped talking about our stay since the moment we left and is already begging me to go back!
We are local and know the area well but went as a treat for my little one and to try to get her use to staying away from home.
The grounds are beautiful and lots of amenities locally for anyone new to the area.
The hospitality was incredible and I will definitely be planning more stays with little one.
Thank you so much.

An exceptional hotel.Fantastic food and very comfortable. The staff were only too pleased to help.Would definitely recommend. The only drawback was that the heating was turned off a little too early in the evening.

We had an good one night stay in April. The building is old and beautiful with plenty of character. Breakfast was excellent in both quality and service.

Charming Hotel. Lovely view from our room which was spacious and well equipped.
Dinner at the hotel was fantastic despite the wine being a little bit expensive.

Beautiful period property which is currently being renovated. Staff are very attentive, breakfast was delicious with lots of options. We stayed in the Hayloft suite which was a good size with a roll top bath in the room. Highly recommended x
