About this house rental
Summary:
This large country house in Ashdown Forest is the perfect stay for extended family get togethers or large groups with children. Situated in an AONB, it has a large garden with views over the rolling countryside, outside dining, BBQ and firepit. Of the Arts and Crafts style, we have recently renovated to expose the beautiful character of the house, styled with Farrow&Ball colour design, SkinFlint lighting, Sisal carpeting and boutique bathrooms throughout.
The Space:
This large Hatch House was a pedestrian gateway to Ashdown Forest. Built over 3 periods the original part features large, exposed beams. The large wooden panel downstairs ‘hall’ leads up into a large staircase and mezzanine 360-gallery with library giving a grand and spacious feel.
There are 6 bedrooms, spacious enough to add in extra mattress for children so families can share rooms. We have 3 extra single floor mattress with bedding meaning the house can space a total of 18 guests Bed space and bedding totals 17 spaces. Please enquire about the possibility of a couple of extra guest spaces.
The large kitchen is great for cooking and dining, with an AGA and large circular table made from pitch pine church pews. With high ceilings and tall windows and patio doors you can look out over the large garden and rolling countryside.
The large ‘snug’ living room with Large TV also looks out to the garden and countryside with summer sunset views.
Guest Access:
Guests will have sole access to the whole house and garden. There is space for 8 cars to park.
The Neighborhood:
The property is the original dwelling of the former estate of Plaw Hatch. The closest villages are Forest Row to the east, which is more like a small town, and Sharpthorne to the west, both about 2 miles away. In the heart or Ashdown Forest, this location is semi rural and also close to many amenities.
Located at the of intersecting of 2 major lay lines, Forest Row is a centre of natural health and spiritual practices, with Rudolf Steiner, Jehova’s Witness and Scientologist centres close by.
Getting Around:
There is direct access to Plaw Hatch Farm and farm shop and barista coffe barn with home-made cakes from the property. The farm shop sells a wide selection of its own biodynamic produce including raw milk, and other local organic breads, cheeses, wines and beers, fruit and veg and other treats.
You can walk directly into the forest through the farm (no dogs allowed this way) or by crossing the road from the farm entrance.
Please note the road is not suitable for walking along so the pubs 2 miles away in the nearest villages would be a drive to, or Forest Row village can be accessed through the forest paths about a 2.5 mile walk.

This is an outdoor free shoe house - please bring slippers or indoor shoes. Food and drinks downstairs only please; Pets downstairs only; Smoking outside only; Vaping ok inside. Thank you!
