About this house rental

Very private cottage walking distance to beach and within 2mi. of town

Our home is near the sea and surrounded by meadows and stone walls. It is very private - the deer, songbirds and crashing waves are your closest neighbors. The house was completely renovated in 2009 . We are walking distance to beach. Winter views of water. We are less than two miles from the town of Little Compton and about 1.3 mi. to the Nature Conservancy's glorious Goosewing Beach. We are surrounded by acres of pristine land protected by conservancy restrictions. We have strategically planted trees to hide cars and neighbors. Trees, meadows, wildlife, stonewalls and waves are your closest neighbors. Have a cup of coffee and watch songbirds, wildflowers and deer through the expanse of sunny, south facing windows.
Enter through the blue barn doors into the downstairs living room with a stone fireplace, a fold out full futon, and a childrens "rainy day" cabinet of games, books and toys. This main floor has 3 bedrooms and two full baths. ( one bath has a 6 ft. antique claw foot tub and heated floors) Washer and dryer are on this floor along with a second refrigerator . The closet in the laundry room holds cleaning supplies and first aid needs.
Climb the stairs to the second floor. You may notice that all of the building material is reclaimed locally. (We attempted to add patina to new construction) The tall ceilings are covered in reclaimed barn wood. The beams and upper floor stone fire place mantel and all the trim were salvaged from a historic Fall River textile mill. The woodburning fireplace works well and we supply wood for you first nights fire. On this floor is the kitchen, dining area, second living room (with fold out queen sofa) and master queen suite with attached full bathroom. The large dining room table can accommodate all guests. This large second floor room boasts a broad expanse of sunny south east facing windows which capture the sunrises and hold midday heat even in the coolest of months. From these windows in the winter we have water views. The house is "an upside down house" with the kitchen and main living room on this second floor to capture the views. The master suite has a queen bed and full bath . The floor of the bathroom can be heated with a flick of a switch. A loft ladder behind the fireplace takes you to the upper bedroom which has two twin beds, a television, a telescope and distant views of the ocean.
Outside off of the second floor dining area/kitchen double doors lead to a large outdoor porch. There is an expandable cedar dining table that can accommodate everyone along with a gas grill and more seating.
Life outside can be enjoyed walking the trails cut through our 5 acres of meadow. We have a circular stone campfire area with outdoor seating off of the south east corner of the house. Between the east side of the house and the large evergreens we have a Petanque court. After a long day outside one can also wash off in the large outdoor shower . (In the late afternoon if the sun is just right it heats up the shampoo and shower gel on the shelf) Then hang your towel on the outside line to dry and relax in the hammock!

My friends and I like to spend time talking and catching up which made this place perfect for us. We spent most days cooking, walking on the beach and talking into the night. We drove to Newport and Bristol for touristy activities which also made this place perfect. It is secluded and still within 30-40 minutes from the heart of Newport. I highly recommend this property.

This was the perfect spot for plant enthusiasts to escape the ferver of their home gardens and enjoy the serenity, serendipity and spectacle of Sakonnet Garden. This well appointed and comfortable home was everything we needed—sprawling vistas, birds and stars. Host was so generous and responsive!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Starting with the host, Avila was incredibly responsive, hospitable, and kind. She was always there to address any questions and was accommodating when it came to a last minute addition of two dogs. She clearly communicated check in and check out instructions, and even gave us a list of some local spots to check out. Upon arrival we were greeted with a hand written note, a bottle of wine, and a binder with all of the information any guest could ask for. What a nice touch. After reading the included history of the property and home with a glass of wine in hand, we explored the rest of the home and property. This was the first VRBO experience I have had that truly felt like a breath of fresh air. The grounds are serene and peaceful, and the landscaping and natural growth of trees and shrubbery hides any hint of neighboring homes. The home itself is incredibly well thought out, and every single room has a cozy feeling where one can enjoy the company of others, or just take in the artifacts, art, and accoutrement that adorn every inch of the home. I would be more than happy to rent from Avila year after year, and would recommend this home to anyone looking for a tranquil getaway in an inspired home.

The house is beautiful and specious. We are a family of 8 including 2 toddler grandchildren and it was a great home in which to spend a week. The upstairs kitchen, dining area and living room is one continuous room and was warm and nicely fit our needs. Off the kitchen/dining area there is a wonderful deck. The grounds are beautiful and surrounded by protected land. We were visited almost daily by a several deer. Little Compton is quite beautiful, surrounded by beaches, farms and farm markets and pretty preserves for nice walks. We even played tennis on the 2 town courts. It is both beautiful and very quiet - which was great for us. Our family loved the area.
